When playing a video game, you can come across a recipe. The recipe can just be an added detail or you may actually have to make the recipe in the game. In this post, I want to try three recipes from the video games Life is Strange 2, Tell Me Why, and Fruitbus in real life.
Life is Strange 2 “Home Alone Pasta Delight”

Life is Strange 2 follows brothers Sean and Daniel Diaz who run away from home after a tragic incident. At the beginning of the game, you can find a recipe on the fridge for a pasta dish. The recipe is supposed to be easy to make as it is intended for Sean to make while he and his younger brother are home alone.

A bag of bow tie pasta
1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
A cup of baby tomatoes
A tablespoon of salt
Pepper for seasoning
A tablespoon of oil
Directions
- Add the salt to a pot of water and bring to a boil
- Once the water is boiling, add the bag of bow tie pasta
- Boil the pasta according to the directions on the packaging (the original recipe states to boil the pasta for 4-5 minutes, but the bow tie pasta I bought had to be boiled for 18 minutes)
- Drain the pasta
- Add the parmesan cheese, baby tomatoes, oil, and pepper to the pasta and mix
My Thoughts on the Life is Strange 2 “Home Alone Pasta Delight”
The pasta was easy to make as you simply boil the pasta and then add seasoning, tomatoes, and cheese. The pasta does make for a nice lunch or a side for dinner. However, if you do want to make the pasta as a main dish, I would suggest having broccoli and garlic bread on the side. I would also recommend adding protein to the pasta, such as chicken, or a vegetarian alternative like tofu, chickpeas, or white beans. Also, I would add more vegetables to the pasta, like spinach and onion, to make it more hearty and filling.
Tell Me Why “Dump in Cake”

I played Tell Me Why as part of my Cozy Winter Games post. In the game, you play as twins Alyson and Tyler, who are reuniting after 10 years and preparing their childhood home for sale. In the kitchen, you can find a recipe for Dump in Cake. Dump in Cake is essentially a crumble with pineapple, cherries, and chocolate that Alyson and Tyler’s mom would make. The Dump in Cake inspired this post because it sounded like an easy and delicious recipe.

1 can of cherries
1 can of crushed pineapple
1 cup of chocolate chocolate chips
2 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of brown sugar
1 teaspoon of baking powder
3/4 cup of butter
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350° F / 175° C
- In a 9x13-inch pan, add the can of cherries and pineapple
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, brown sugar, baking powder, and butter to make the cake mix
- Add the cake mix over the cherry and pineapple mixture
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top of the cake mix
- Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown
My Thoughts on the Tell Me Why “Dump in Cake”
The Dump in Cake was easy to make, and it had a good flavor with the pineapple, cherries, cake mix, and chocolate. However, I did have a problem finding canned cherries in Denmark. I used a container of cherry sauce that is normally used for risalamande instead. The cherry sauce does have whole cherries in it, but it does have more sauce than a plain can of cherries. However, on the Tell Me Why Facebook page, they shared the Dump in Cake recipe from the game. In the comments, they stated that cherry pie filling would be ideal. You can opt for a cherry sauce or cherry pie filling instead of a can of cherries, and the crumble will still be delicious.
Fruitbus “Grandma’s Smoothie”

In Fruitbus, you take over your grandma’s Fruitbus and invite guests to her Farewell Feast. Along the way, you make smoothies, bowls, sandwiches, and more to serve to customers. One of the smoothies you make is Grandma’s Smoothie, which she made when she was feeling down. The smoothie is easy to make as it only requires a mango, a banana, and a lemon.

1 mango
1 banana
1 lemon
Directions
- Dice the mango and add the mango chunks to the blender
- Peel the banana and add the banana to the blender
- Halve the lemon, remove the seeds, and squeeze both halves of lemon juice into the blender
- Blend the ingredients until smooth
My Thoughts on the Fruitbus “Grandma’s Smoothie”
The smoothie was refreshing, and it did have a nice flavor. I did have to add a few ice cubes to make the smoothie cold, but it was great. I opted to use fresh fruit because, in Fruitbus, you drive around and pick the fruit from trees to use in the smoothie. However, you could substitute the fresh mango for frozen mango chunks, and it would be even easier to make.
This is such a fun idea! I like the sound of the pasta, would love to read a part 2 🙂
Thanks! The pasta is pretty good!
I backed Alex Hill: Whispers at White Oak Inn on Indiegogo so I got to play it early (it releases in March). There’s an old fashioned potato soup recipe in the game so I’m definitely interested in doing a part 2 or at least updating this post!
I’ve never thought to make something from a video game before, but it’s such a cool idea! I like the sound of the recipes you made, they all sound fairly decent. Now I’m going to have to see if there is any food related to some of the games I play!
The recipes were all pretty good! It would be interesting to see if you find any recipes in the games you play!
I know there’s a lot of Nancy Drew games that have recipes so I’m thinking of doing a dedicated post on trying recipes from those games
What a fun idea for a blog post! I love the sound of these different recipes. I want to try to make that smoothie! x

Those all look really good to me too but I would not have even though about recipes from video games!
Thanks! You would be surprised how many games just have a book you find with a recipe in it!
Love this! The Home Alone Pasta Delight is going on my list to make. 🙂
Thank you! The pasta was pretty good and it was easy to make!
All of these look so tasty! I love how simple each recipe is, no fuss needed. Perfect for someone like myself who hates having to cook complicated dishes!

These video games recipes sound interesting. I would like to try the smoothie. Wow! I don’t know that there are also recipes in video games. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks! The smoothie was delicious and it is easy to make!
There are quite a few games that include a recipe as an added detail.
I’ve made “dump cake” a few times. I first discovered it from a cooking show many years ago. My recipe called for cake mix which makes it even easier to make (less mess) but it didn’t call for chocolate chips. I used a can of crushed pineapple and cherry pie filling. I topped it with some cubes of butter. It was one of the most delicious desserts I’ve ever had. Highly recommend serving it with ice cream!
It would be even easier to make it with cake mix! That sounds delicious with the ice cream!
Great post! This is such a fun idea – I love bringing those animated concepts to life. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! It was fun trying the recipes!
