10 Cozy Winter Games to Play

Updated on September 17th, 2026

With the weather getting colder, one of my favorite activities to do is to cozy up indoors and play a video game. For this post, I want to share 10 cozy games I have played that are set in winter or have winter themes.

What are Cozy Games?

If you have been following my blog for a while, I have mentioned cozy games before. However, if you are unfamiliar with the term, cozy games are games you play to relax. They generally do not include combat and stressful situations, but some cozy games can have combat. Furthermore, cozy games can cover a variety of genres from puzzle and story-rich games to life simulations. With that said, let us explore some cozy winter games!

10 Cozy Winter Games

#1 A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build

My first recommendation for cozy winter games is A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build. A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build is a puzzle game where you are a monster who builds snowmen. The concept of the game is simple, but it can be challenging. You have to roll the snowballs of different sizes to make a snowman. Rolling the snowball on snow makes it bigger, while rolling it on grass makes it stay the same shape. There are obstacles and initial placement of the snowballs to consider when making the snowman. There are 30 levels in the main story, and it is a fun puzzle game.

A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build is on Steam, Epic Games, and Nintendo Switch for $14.99 and on the App Store and Google Play for $5.99

#2 Kona

In Kona, you play as the private detective Carl Faubert, who is tasked with investigating vandalism at the hunting manor of W. Hamilton. However, Carl becomes trapped in the Canadian town of Atamipek Lake when an unexpected blizzard comes. Carl must then investigate what happened to Hamilton and the residents of the small town. In the game, you drive around in Carl’s truck, and you can also find and fix up a snowmobile. I enjoyed exploring the town in the truck and snowmobile and investigating different areas for clues.

You do have Carl’s health, warmth, and stress to consider when exploring. However, you can find medicine and first aid kits for health, and beer, cigarettes, or refillable bottles with water to reduce stress. For warmth, there are fireplaces in the homes and fire pits out in the environment that can be lit. I never found these survival elements stressful because the resources are plentiful. You are also not that far away from a fire pit even when exploring on foot. However, the ending of the game is a bit stressful because you have to move quickly. Overall, Kona is a cozy mystery game where you can take your time exploring the town and uncovering clues.

Kona is available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S for $14.99

A screenshot from Kona where Carl found a snowy cabin next to a lookout tower. The environment is hard to see with the heavy snow.

#3 Lake – Season’s Greetings

Season’s Greetings is a DLC for Lake, so you have to own Lake to play it. I highly recommend Lake because it is a great mail-delivering game. As far as the DLC, Season’s Greetings is a prequel where you play as Meredith’s dad, Thomas Weiss, as you drive around and deliver mail to the residents of Providence Oaks. Season’s Greetings is set around Christmas and New Year’s Eve and has a cozy winter setting. Season’s Greetings is a joy to play through.

Lake – Season’s Greetings is available on Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S for $9.99

#4 The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a prequel to Life is Strange 2, but you can play the game on its own. In the game, you play as 9-year-old boy Chris who escapes reality with his alter ego, Captain Spirit. The game is set during winter, and you will complete a series of missions as Captain Spirit. Furthermore, the game is story-driven like all the Life is Strange games. Some choices and actions you make in The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit will link to Life is Strange 2 if you do play that game.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is available on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One for free

#5 Nancy Drew: Treasure in the Royal Tower

Treasure in the Royal Tower is the 4th Nancy Drew game made by Her Interactive, and it is one of my favorite Nancy Drew games. In the game, Nancy goes on vacation to the Wickford Castle Ski Resort in Wisconsin, but she and the other guests become snowed in. While trapped in the castle, Nancy investigates the secret Marie Antoinette supposedly left behind in the tower. I love the setting of the castle ski resort, and one of my favorite areas is the main sitting area. The sitting area is so cozy with the fireplace, and you can also talk to 2 of the guests there. There are puzzles to solve throughout the game that are not too challenging, and it is a great cozy winter game.

Nancy Drew: Treasure in the Royal Tower is available on Steam for $9.99

#6 Nancy Drew: Sea of Darkness

Another Nancy Drew game I have to recommend is Sea of Darkness. Sea of Darkness is the 32nd Nancy Drew game by Her Interactive. In the game, Nancy is tasked with investigating the disappearance of the captain of the Heerlijkheid ship in Skipbrot, Iceland. I love the setting of Iceland, and you can even see the Northern Lights in the game! The game is more puzzle-heavy than Treasure in the Royal Tower, but I found the story great, and the characters have well-developed backstories. If you are looking for a cozy puzzle-filled game set during winter, I recommend playing Sea of Darkness.

Nancy Drew: Sea of Darkness is available on Steam for $19.99

#7 Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna)

In Never Alone, you play as Nuna and Fox as they search for the source of an eternal blizzard that threatens the survival of everything they know. The game has puzzles to solve as both Nuna and Fox, and the puzzles are not too difficult to figure out. The game also draws on traditional stories from the Iñupiat, an Alaska Native people. You can either play single-player or co-op, where one player controls Nuna and the other controls Fox. The setting and the stories make you feel like you are in the Arctic, and Never Alone is a great game.

Never Alone is available on Steam, Epic Games, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S for $12.99+

#8 The Sims 4 Snowy Escape Expansion Pack

Snowy Escape is the 10th expansion pack for The Sims 4, and I believe it is one of the better packs. The expansion pack introduces winter-themed activities and includes a new world, Mt. Komorebi, which is inspired by Japan. Part of the world will always be snowy even if you do not own the Seasons Expansion Pack. Therefore, it is a great pack to own if you want your sims to enjoy some winter activities.

Sims can learn to ski and snowboard and they can also go sledding. Furthermore, sims can start a mountain excursion event where they have to go rock climbing and survive the elements while trying to reach the peak of Mt. Komorebi. Lastly, sims can relax in the hot springs at the onsen bathhouse or visit one of the three festivals. During the Festival of Snow, they can play in the snow, admire snow sculptures, and eat ikayaki.

The Sims 4 Snowy Escape Expansion Pack is available on PC, Steam, Epic Games, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S for $40

#9 The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack

Since I mentioned Seasons when talking about Snowy Escape, I thought I would include it on this list as well. Seasons is the 5th expansion pack for The Sims 4, and the pack adds weather, seasons, and holidays. Every world in The Sims 4 will go through the spring, summer, fall, and winter seasons. In winter, there can be snowfall. However, some worlds, like the desert base game world Oasis Springs, will normally not have snow. When it does snow, sims can build a snow pal, create snow angels, have a snowball fight, or go skating on the ice rink.

The Seasons Expansion Pack also adds holidays. You can create your own holidays in the game, and one of the holidays already included is Winterfest. During Winterfest, sims can decorate their home and the tree with winter-themed decorations, open presents, have a grand meal, and even be visited by Father Winter, whom they can ask for a gift. Seasons is a great pack if you want to experience weather and seasons in the game and celebrate holidays like Winterfest with your sims.

The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack is available on PC, Steam, Epic Games, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S for $40

#10 Tell Me Why

The last suggestion I have for cozy winter games is Tell Me Why, which is from the same developer as the Life is Strange games. In Tell Me Why, you play as twins Alyson and Tyler who are reuniting after 10 years and preparing their childhood home for sale. However, they are forced to confront the past and figure out what actually happened with their mother 10 years ago. Like the Life is Strange games, Tell Me Why is a narrative adventure game where you make choices throughout the game. The choices you make in Tell Me Why will affect the twins’ relationship and their future. What makes Tell Me Why perfect to play during winter is that the game is set in November in a small town in Alaska. The environment is beautiful and covered in snow, and I took so many screenshots while playing.

Tell Me Why is available on Steam and Xbox One. The first chapter is free, and chapters 2 and 3 are $19.99

Would you like to play any of these cozy winter games?

I LOVE sending my Sims to Mt. Komorebi! It’s one of the best expansion packs for the game. Lake looks very cozy! I’ll be going on a long winter break next month so picking up a new game would be perfect to relax. Thank you for sharing!

The developers are based in Quebec and the game is set around there, so it does make since Carl has a French name. Also, I played the sequel Kona II: Brume, and you meet NPCs who do speak French!

What a great list! I love the sound of Kona. I don’t have any game consoles, but I may have to borrow my sister’s for that one. Lake also sounds fun. Thanks for sharing!

I really enjoyed playing Kona because you can take your time to explore each area and figure out what happened to the residents of the town. There’s also some puzzles to solve and the survival elements were not stressful to deal with.

A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build is a fun and challenging game! The concept of rolling around snowballs is simple, but you really need to think about the placement to make the snowmen.
