The 25 Best Cozy Games to Play on PC and Console

I love playing cozy games, especially after a long day you can sit back and relax with a video game. In this post, I wanted to share my list of the best cozy games for PC and consoles that I have played over the years.

What are Cozy Games?

Cozy games are games that are laidback, and you can pick them up whenever you want to relax. Cozy games do not focus on combat like shooting and fighting games. However, cozy games can have combat such as Stardew Valley, but combat has such a minimal focus, and other areas of the game such as farming and rebuilding the community have a larger focus. With that said, it can vary from person to person what they consider a cozy game as one person may not like farming games, but instead, prefer puzzle games and vice versa. In general, if a game is relaxing, it is cozy. All the games on this list I have personally played and I would recommend them if you are wanting to play a cozy game.

#1 Alba: A Wildlife Adventure

In Alba, you play as Alba when she visits her grandparents for a week on the fictional Spanish island Secarral. After Alba helps save a stranded dolphin, she establishes a wildlife rescue league with her friend Ines. However, the mayor announces that a luxury hotel will be built at the location of the local wildlife reserve, and the girls will do whatever it takes to stop the hotel. As Alba, you explore the whole island of Secarral, take photos of the wildlife, complete quests, and collect signatures to stop the hotel. At the end of the game, you can continue playing to take any missing photos and complete any last side quests.

#2 Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) is the latest Animal Crossing game where you move to a deserted island. In ACNH, you can decorate your whole island and your house, build and customize furniture, catch fish, bugs, and sea creatures, plant flowers and crops, find fossils, complete quests, play with friends, and more. The game also takes place in real-time and there are events throughout the year based on holidays including Festivale, Bunny Day, Turkey Day, Toy Day, and New Year’s Eve.

Also, ACNH has the Happy Homes Paradise DLC for $24.99 where you decorate vacation homes for villagers as well as several facilities including a school, cafe, restaurant, hospital, and an apparel shop. The DLC is a nice addition to the game especially if you love decorating.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available on Nintendo Switch for $59.99

Animal Crossing is indeed a great game for people who love to decorate. If you enjoy playing Animal Crossing, you can choose to customize items with elements from the game such as custom stickers cheap in price, keychains, Custom Lapel Pins and more. You can use the sticker to decorate your everyday items from laptops to water bottles or use the keychains and pins as collectibles. Do not hesitate to customize one today!

#3 Assemble with Care

Assemble with Care is made by the same developers as Alba: A Wildlife Adventure. In Assemble with Care, you play as antique restorer Maria as she visits the fictional town of Bellariva. She helps the townspeople fix their broken possessions while you learn more about their personal lives and their own fractured relationships. The game is rather short as there are only 13 chapters and an epilogue, but it is a laidback game. In each of the chapters, you repair items from a cassette player and a camera to a watch and a projector.

#4 Beacon Pines

Beacon Pines is a unique game because you play as Luka as he investigates the mysteries in Beacon Pines. As you interact with the characters and environment, you earn charms, which are words that are used during turning points of the story. Some charms lead to abrupt endings of the story and from there, you can use a different charm at the turning points to reach the true ending of the game. The story is a bit creepy, but the game itself is cozy.

#5 Bear and Breakfast

Bear and Breakfast is a cute management game where you play as Hank the bear and run various bed and breakfasts. At the first location, you are limited in what you can do and build, but as you progress in the game, you unlock more quests and locations. At each location, you can gather various resources to build and decorate rooms and bathrooms and in later locations, you build kitchens, dining rooms, and entertainment rooms. Bear and Breakfast is a unique take on a management-style game.

#6 Coffee Talk

In Coffee Talk, you work as a barista where you talk to customers and make their drinks. The game is set in an alternative Seattle where orcs, elves, aliens, and other fantasy races live together with humans, but the hardships they face are relatable to the real modern world. Coffee Talk is a great cozy game if you enjoy narrative-driven games.

#7 Disney Dreamlight Valley

Dreamlight Valley has been overrun with night thorns due to the Forgetting, and it is up to you to bring the magic back to the valley. Dreamlight Valley is similar to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in that you can collect resources, farm, mine, fish, decorate the valley, complete quests, and unlock more Disney and Pixar characters and level up their friendship. Disney Dreamlight Valley is currently in early access, and there are regular updates, but it is leaving early access on December 5th. Also, they are planning on adding multiplayer gameplay as well.

#8 Escape Academy

If you are a fan of escape rooms, I recommend playing Escape Academy. In the game, you play as a student at Escape Academy who is training to become the ultimate Escapist. You solve various escape room-type puzzles to earn badges, and there is a hint system if you do get stuck on a puzzle. Also, you can play the game solo or with a friend.

#9 Firewatch

In Firewatch, you play as Henry who left his life behind to work as a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness. Your only contact with the outside world is with your supervisor Delilah through your handheld radio. In the game, you explore the wilderness and complete various tasks as a fire lookout, which does make it a cozy game.

#10 Florence

Florence is a short game where Florence Yeoh feels stuck in her life until she meets cello player Krish who changes everything about how she sees the world and herself. There are very few words in the game, and you complete various tasks such as putting puzzle pieces together to resemble a conversation or creating artwork with various shapes. Even though the game is short, it is meaningful.

#11 Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon is one of my favorite cozy game series. The games follow a similar premise where you are given a small farm, and you can grow crops, tend to livestock, gather materials, make friends, and get married. However, each of the games has a different storyline, and in Harvest Moon: Light of Hope your main quest is save the town and the lighthouse, and in Harvest Moon: One World, you need to bring the Harvest Goddess back.

#12 House Flipper

In House Flipper, you buy, renovate, and sell homes. You also have various job offers to clean, repair, and renovate other homes. There is also several DLC for House Flipper including Pets DLC for $14.99 which has a new neighborhood with homes you can buy and jobs for you to do, and you can also adopt pets and even bring your dogs or cats to your jobs! Along with dogs and cats, you can adopt rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, iguanas, turtles, snakes, spiders, fish, and birds.

#13 Jenny LeClue – Detectivu

Jenny LeClue is a mystery-adventure game where you play as Jenny when her mother is accused of murder. Jenny soon discovers the town of Arthurton is not what it seems, and you have to uncover the truth of what happened. I love mystery games, and Jenny LeClue was right up my alley.

#14 Lake

In Lake, you play as Meredith when she takes a break from her career in the big city to deliver mail in her hometown. It is peaceful driving around the town in the mail truck and delivering letters and packages. You also get to know various characters in town and based on your choices throughout the game, you will get 1 of 3 endings.

#15 Minecraft

When you think of Minecraft, you may not think of it as a cozy game given that there are creepers, zombies, skeletons, and other hostile mobs in the game. However, you can play in Peaceful mode where none of the hostile mobs will spawn. Also, you can play in Creative mode instead of Survival where you can explore the world and build with unlimited resources. My daughter loves playing Minecraft, and we regularly play together in Peaceful Creative mode as she loves to build.

#16 Nancy Drew

The Nancy Drew PC games are one of my favorite game series. There are 33 Nancy Drew games in all, and in the point-and-click games, you play as Nancy who is an amateur detective. In the games, you investigate mysterious hauntings, accidents, disappearances, and more, and I definitely recommend playing them if you enjoy mystery puzzle games.

#17 Never Alone

In Never Alone, you play as both Nuna and Fox as they search for the source of an eternal blizzard. The game includes various puzzles and draws on traditional stories from the Iñupiat, an Alaska Native people. The game is atmospheric and you definitely feel like you are in the Artic, and the puzzles are not too difficult to solve. You can also play co-op where one player controls Nuna and the other Fox.

#18 Night in the Woods

In this game, you play as Mae who returns home after dropping out of college. You explore the town of Possum Springs and reconnect with old friends, but strange things are on going in the town. The game is set in the fall around Halloween, which I love, and the game is also narrative-driven, and you can make choices throughout the game.

#19 Planet Coaster

I loved playing Roller Coaster Tycoon as a kid, and Planet Coaster is like an updated Roller Coaster Tycoon where you build and manage a theme park. In the game, there are several modes you can play including Career mode where you take over a pre-existing theme park and you have specific scenarios to complete. There is also Sandbox mode where you can build your theme park from the ground up and there are no money restrictions. Lastly, there is Challenge mode where you build your own theme park, but you are limited on money. You also have the ability to place premade roller coasters, build your own, or download one from the Steam Workshop. The creators of Planet Coaster also made Planet Zoo where instead of a theme park, you run a zoo.

#20 A Short Hike

In A Short Hike, you play as Claire as you hike around Hawk Peak Provincial Park to reach the summit of the mountain. You can explore the island, meet other hikers, and gather golden feathers that allow you to climb and fly further. You can play the game at your own pace as there is no rush to reach the summit, and it is a delightful cozy game.

#21 The Sims 4

The Sims is another one of my favorite game series, and in The Sims 4, you can create your own sims, build your own houses and community lots, and control their lives. I currently own all The Sims 4 expansion packs, which I have ranked, and also, I made a list of the best Sims 4 challenges for create-a-sim, build mode, and gameplay that makes the game more interesting. If life simulation games interest you, I definitely recommend checking out The Sims 4.

#22 Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is always recommended as a cozy game to play, and it truly is a cozy game. In Stardew Valley, you inherited your grandfather’s old farm where you begin your new life. You can grow crops, raise animals, start an orchard, and more. You can also mine, fish, forage, cook, and craft recipes, and there are over 30 characters to meet in Stardew Valley including 12 marriage candidates. Furthermore, there are seasonal festivals that take place, and you have the choice of restoring Stardew Valley to its former glory or joining Joja Corporation. Lastly, you can play Stardew Valley in single-player or multiplayer mode!

#23 The Tenants

In The Tenants, you play as a landlord and design apartments, rent them out to tenants, and manage your tenants. You can also take on freelance jobs to earn more money. If you like building in The Sims, I think you would enjoy The Tenants because I certainly do.

#24 Unpacking

Unpacking is a casual game where you unpack boxes of possessions and find a place for them. There are 8 different house moves you play through, and you learn more about the character and her story as the game progresses.

#25 Untitled Goose Game

The last game on this list is Untitled Goose Game. In the game, you play as a goose who wreaks havoc on a small village. There are tasks to complete in each area of the village, and once you complete the game, even more tasks are unlocked, which adds replayability. Untitled Goose Game also added a co-op mode, and both you and your friend can be geese!

If you are interested in any of these games but do not want to pay full price, you can always wait for a sale. Steam regularly has sales, and its biggest sales are during the spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Nintendo will occasionally have these games on sale, but I recommend adding the games to your wish list so you are notified when they do go on sale.
