Replaying Children’s PC Games Part 2

Updated on April 21st, 2026

AD – Sponsored | I had a fun time Replaying Children’s Computer Games, and I wanted to replay some more pc games from my childhood again.

The Game of Life (1998)

I played The Game of Life many times as a kid, and I always played against the computer. This time around, I played with my daughter and 1 computer character. The Game of Life is based on the board game, and at the start, you choose to either go to college or start a career. If you chose to go to college, you can choose between 3 jobs and 3 salaries whereas you will only have 1 option if you do not go to college. You then move around the board by spinning the spinner, and there will be an animation of your car moving over the spaces.

Each space you land on plays a short scenario, and you will receive money, pay money, or get a life tile from events like having a baby or going on vacation. There are many scenarios for each space so if players continuously land on the “Pay Day” space for example as my daughter did, you will not see the same scenario so the game does not feel repetitive. There are also various stop points along the way such as getting married and getting a house and you play the game until you reach the end of the board where you retire and your life tiles are counted. The player with the most money at the end of the game wins.

It was a fun game, and it kept my daughter entertained. The only complaint I have is that it was so slow when the computer was playing and at one point I thought the game froze when the computer was buying house insurance. The game eventually went back to the board and the computer spun the spinner and the game continued. Besides that, I would recommend playing through The Game of Life a few times and seeing all the scenarios.

A screenshot from The Game of Life which shows me, my daughter, and the computer characters on the gameboard

Neopets (1999)

Along with PC games, I also wanted to revisit a website I played a lot as a kid and while I was in university. I first made a Neopets account when I was a kid and I had a Lupe, but I no longer have access to the email address I used, so in 2013 I made a new account with a Uni. I have not been on Neopets in years, but I remember having fun doing all the dailies and playing the games. When I revisited Neopets for this post, it was sad to see that most of the games are unplayable because they were Flash-based and Adobe ended Flash Player at the end of 2020.

However, there are still a handful of non-Flash games that can be played like Cheat! where you are paired against 3 NPCs. In the game, a deck of cards is divided up evenly. and you are supposed to play the same card or a card higher or lower than the previous NPC. However, you can choose the number of cards to play and if you are going to lie about the card(s). You can also accuse the NPCs of cheating and you can be accused of cheating as well. If you or the NPC are telling the truth about the cards played, the accuser gets the pile of cards. However, if you are lying, you have to take the pile of cards. It is a fun game, and I have played through all the levels.

I also played JubJub Blackjack among other games, which is just like Blackjack where you try to get as close to 21 without going over and you play against your Neopet. It was nice revisiting Neopets, but I do hope that they focus on converting their Flash games and all the Neopet worlds.

A screenshot from the Cheat! game on Neopets that shows that one of the NPCs played 4 Aces and I have the option to accuse them of cheaing or to let them pass

The Sims 2 (2004)

I originally wanted to play The Sims, but I no longer have the game, so I decided to play The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection, which I received from Origin in 2014 because I owned The Sims 2 base game. The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection has all the expansion packs and stuff packs from The Sims 2, which I thought would be fun to try out, as I only had a few packs when I played as a kid. When I played The Sims as a kid, I never made my own sims and I did not care about building (now I love creating sims and occasionally building). I only focused on gameplay with the already created households, so that is what I did.

I played with the Goth family, and the backstory is that Bella disappeared so now it is just Mortimer and their children Cassandra and Alexander. Mortimer is retired, Cassandra is engaged to Don Lothario, and Alexander is still in school. I played mostly with Cassandra, and I first decided that Cassandra and Don should get married and he moved into the Goth household. However, Don is still in a relationship with several other women who he may have invited over while Cassandra was at work. When Cassandra got home, she wanted a pet, so I adopted a pet cat. Alexander also wanted a car so I bought the Goths a real functioning car (The Sims 4 could never), First I had him rake leaves since it was Fall in-game and I needed room to place the driveway haha.

Then Cassandra wanted to go on vacation so I thought that she and Don could have a vacation in the Twikkii Island vacation world and they stayed at the hotel on the beach. I chose a suite, they played on the beach, and they are now eating at the restaurant at the hotel. I did not know how to make them eat together at the same table though haha. The restaurant takes FOREVER just like in The Sims 4, and I decided to stop playing for now at this point.

As you can tell, the graphics are not the best. I also had issues with the screen sometimes flashing and there are black boxes underneath the sims. I am not sure how to fix that, but I would like to figure that out for the next time I play. Another complaint I have is that I thought The Sims 4 had too many loading screens, but The Sims 2 loading screens are so long and just to go to a new place takes forever.

On a lighter note, The Sims 2 has a ton of packs and I only touched on a few (Seasons, Pets, and Bon Voyage). I would like to continue playing and go through university and live in an apartment. I would also maybe like to try creating a sim and building them a house as that is not something I have done in The Sims and The Sims 2.

A screenshot from The Sims 2 which shows Cassandra and Don at the restaurant at the beach hotel

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 (2004)

I played RollerCoaster Tycoon a lot as a kid as well the third game, but I am unsure if I had the second. I decided to play RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 on the Epic Game Store as I have the Complete Edition on there which includes the Soaked! and Wild! expansion packs. I first played through the tutorial as it has been a while since I last played, but I did not find it that helpful when it came to actually playing the game.

I played a career mode scenario in the base game and the two expansion packs, and it was fine, but I often got frustrated when playing. When I was placing amenities like toilets, I did not realize you had to open them. Why do you have to open the toilets after you place them so people can use them?! I understand having to test and open the rides but toilets?! Also when I was playing a scenario in the Soaked expansion pack, there was an objective to build a pool. Building the pool was pretty easy, but after a while, I noticed that no one was using the pool because I did not open the changing rooms. Note to self to make sure you open the buildings after you place them!

Another frustrating aspect of the game is that I was trying to find where the objectives were for the career mode, and it took forever going through all the buttons on the side to find them. Furthermore, a big part of the RollerCoaster Tycoon games is building custom coasters, but I would always just use the premade coasters as I find the building process too complicated and the rides never turned out well. It was nice to revisit RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, but I do not think I will play it much longer.

A screenshot from RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 which shows the theme park I have been playing in that has several rides and amenties

Solitaire

I loved playing Solitaire on my computer as a kid, and I still enjoy playing it now. I played the Classic Solitaire on Solitaire.org. You can choose between the regular draw 3 cards or you can draw 1 card, which I personally prefer to play with. There is also an undo button if you accidentally click too fast through the cards or you second guess where you moved a card. The game also keeps statistics of the number of games won and lost, the time the games have taken, and the scores.

I had a lot of fun playing Solitaire again, and Solitaire.org has other variations of Solitaire such as Pyramid, FreeCell, Spider, and Tripeaks. Along with Solitaire, they also have other card games like Blackjack, Poker, and Crazy Eights, hidden object games, logic puzzles including Nonograms and Sudoku as well as word games like Crosswords and Word Search. All the games are free to play and there is no downloading needed.

A screenshot from Solitaire which shows I have only a few covered cards left before I win the game

Mahjong Solitaire

Along with Solitaire, I also played Mahjong a lot as a kid. In Mahjong, the goal is to match all the tiles, and in this game, there are cute designs to pick for the tiles including flowers, circus, symbols, or a wood design. There are also 4 different board games to play including the heart board I chose.

I liked playing Mahjong because it tells you how many available pairs are left, and if you have 0 pairs left, you can either choose to end the game or shuffle the tiles for a 60-second penalty and continue playing. It is nice having the option especially if you only have a few tiles left. You can also undo if you thought you made a mistake when choosing the pairs, which is great. Solitaire.org also has a ton of other Mahjong games to play including the daily Mahjong puzzle and Halloween Mahjong which has 50 levels to complete!

A screenshot of Mahjong with the heart board and flower tiles. Some of the tiles have been paired and there are 12 avaiable pairs to make

What video games did you play as a child?

I didn’t play a lot of video or computer games, but definitely loved solitaire and mahjong solitaire. I didn’t remember what that latter one was called, but recognize it from the picture. It sounds like it could be fun to replay childhood games with your own kids. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Karalee,

Wow, this takes me back! I well remember Sims. I never played Railway Tycoon but played Theme Park which I think was similar (and Civilization before that). Great games in their time but I’m not sure that they have aged well ๐Ÿ™‚

Whereas the even older games like Solitaire and Minesweeper still have some appeal because they are so simplistic.

Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane.

I still love playing The Sims now & I loved Theme Park World! All the tycoon games seem pretty similar & it just depends on what you are running such as a theme park or a zoo.
I agree! Many games like The Sims 2 have not aged well, but with Soliatire or Minesweeper, there isn’t that problem.
