Will inZOI Replace The Sims?

Updated on November 21st, 2025

With the release of early access for inZOI, some people believe the game will replace The Sims. In this post, I will dive into why I do not think that is the case.

First I will briefly explain what inZOI and The Sims are. Then, I will compare the cost, system requirements, art style, gameplay, and use of AI-generated content. Lastly, I will share why I think inZOI will not replace The Sims.

What is inZOI?

inZOI is a life simulation game published by KRAFTON. In the game, players step into the role of creators. From there, you shape the world and visualize stories of real life. inZOI released in early access on March 28th, 2025. The game is currently only available on PC through Steam. However, the developers have plans to release the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S once inZOI leaves early access.

What is The Sims?

The Sims is a life simulation game published by EA. In the game, you make custom sims, build and decorate homes, and play with life. The Sims first released in 2000, and the current iteration of The Sims 4 released in 2014. Since 2014, there have been regular updates and new content added to The Sims 4. The Sims 4 is available on PC through the EA app, Steam, and Epic Games as well as PlayStation and Xbox.

Cost

inZOI is currently $39.99. All updates during early access will be free. However, there may be paid DLC once the game leaves early access.

In comparison, The Sims 4 base game is free as of October 2022. There are also regular free base game updates. However, The Sims 4 has 20 Expansion Packs for $39.99 each and 12 Game Packs for $19.99 each. Additionally, there are 20 Stuff Packs for $9.99 each and numerous Kits for $4.99 each. That said, the Expansion Packs, Game Packs, and Stuff Packs are regularly on sale for 25-60% off.

The Sims 4 has a lower starting cost because the base game is free to play. inZoi is $39.99, which is the cost of 1 full-price Expansion Pack for The Sims 4. I do not know if inZOI will increase the base price when the game is fully released. I also do not know what the pricing of future DLC outside of early access will be. Considering The Sims 4 has been out for over 10 years, the total cost of all the content is much higher than inZOI, and inZOI is likely not to reach that price. That said, you do not need every single DLC in The Sims 4 to enjoy the game.

System Requirements

When the inZOI system requirements were announced, they received criticism for having such high hardware requirements. You can see the minimum through high requirements in the table below. Also, if you want to figure out if you can play inZOI, you have to manually compare the requirements to your PC’s hardware.

A table of the minimum, medium, recommended, and high hardware requirements for inZOI

In comparison, The Sims 4 system requirements are much less demanding than inZOI. The minimum and recommended requirements are shown in the table below. Also, you can go to the System Requirements Lab to check if you can run The Sims 4 without having to manually compare the requirements to your PC hardware.

The minimum and recommend PC requirements for The Sims 4

To compare the minimum requirements of the games, inZOI needs 12 GB RAM compared to 4 GB RAM in The Sims 4. Also, inZO needs 40 GB of storage compared to 26 GB in The Sims 4. For the processor, inZOI needs an Intel i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600. The Sims 4 needs an Intel i3-3220 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200.

The Sims 4 is made with lower-end PCs in mind. They do not exclude players for having an older computer or playing on a laptop. On the other hand, the inZOI system requirements are demanding. You need a newer PC and ideally not a laptop even a gaming laptop. The system requirements of inZOI will ultimately lead to excluding some players who cannot afford to get a new PC just to play the game.

Art Style

inZOI has realistic graphics, which does contribute to the need for the high system requirements. Some gamers prefer realistic graphics, but realistic graphics are not really my cup of tea. If you do want to see the art style of inZOI, you can check out the early access trailer below. Also, with the ever-expanding technology, I do see the graphics becoming out of date at some point. Just look at The Sims 3. The Sims 3 released in 2009 with more realistic graphics for the time, but the game looks outdated today.

In comparison, The Sims 4 is known for its cartoonish art style. Even though the game is over 10 years old, it does not look like it because they did not go for a realistic art style like in The Sims 3. I do prefer the cartoonish style because it fits with the quirkiness of The Sims franchise. You can see an example of the art style for The Sims 4 in the trailer for the Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack.

Gameplay

According to an early access review for inZOI, you create a Zoi and build a house or live in a prebuilt lot. The needs you have to take care of for your Zoi include hunger, hygiene, sleep, bathroom, fun, social, recognition, and energy. You can also build a career and skills, visit locations in the world, and navigate relationships with other Zois. However, since inZOI is in early access, I have seen numerous players stating the game is shallow.

For example, you can only make single servings of meals even if you are playing with a family. You cannot call other Zois and invite them over, and you cannot end events early. Furthermore, your Zois cannot multitask such as eating and talking to another Zoi at the same time. You also cannot adjust the length of aging or turn it off. Lastly, Zois cannot travel or move to the other city, and when a Zoi dies, they just go into the afterlife. That said, the developers do have plans to implement moving between cities and a ghost system. inZOI does have a good foundation though. With time, the gameplay will hopefully be expanded on and feedback during early access will be taken into consideration.

The Sims 4 base game has the same basic gameplay as inZOI where you create a sim and build a house or live in a prebuilt one. You also have the bladder, hunger, energy, fun, social, and hygiene needs to take care of. From there, your sims can have a career, build skills, visit lots in the worlds, and build relationships with other sims. The Sims 4 base game does offer more content than inZOI. However, The Sims 4 has been out for over 10 years. I do not think you can really compare the gameplay content in an early-access game to a game that has been out for a decade.

AI-Generated Content

I have seen some individuals refuse to play inZOI because of the use of AI. In inZOI, you can enter a text prompt and the game will generate a custom pattern that you can use to customize outfits and furniture. Furthermore, you can upload a 2D image and AI will convert it to a 3D object such as decor to use in the game. Lastly, you can upload a pose or video of a person dancing and AI will be used to convert that pose and dance for your Zoi. All of these are examples of generative AI because the game is creating patterns, objects, and poses not already in the game.

As of now, there is no AI-generated content in The Sims 4. That said, in September 2024, EA announced plans for The Sims Hub. With The Sims Hub, players can upload an image and AI will search for similar builds made by players. This would not be generative AI though as the AI would only be searching for player builds just like if you were doing a reverse image search on Google. However, players will also be able to upload an image of a person and AI will make a sim to match the image. This feature could be considered generative AI because a sim would be created from scratch to look like the image.

Final Thoughts

The Sims has been the go-to for life simulation games. Recently life sim games have been announced but never came to fruition like with the cancellation of Life by You and the disappearance of Vivaland. Many players are waiting for the release of Paralives and now the early access release of inZOI has come.

Just because a new life simulation game is released, it does not mean it will replace The Sims 4. The Sims 4 and inZOI can coexist and have an active player base. For example, Stardew Valley is a well-known farming sim that released in 2016. There have been a plethora of farming sims released since then including Fields of Mistria, Coral Island, Wylde Flowers, and Roots of Pacha. Multiple games can exist in the same genre, and it is good for competition. It is also great for players to have more options for games.

What do you think of inZOI? Do you think inZOI will be replacing The Sims?

They both sound fantastic! I’ve never played SIMS before but I agree that they can both coexist. It’s always nice for players to have some variety. Thanks for sharing!

The Sims has been the go-to life simulation game for the past 25 years, so it is great that there is finally more options for players who enjoy life sim games
