Since March 2021, The Sims 4 has released 60 kits. Kits are mini packs that have a selection of clothes, build mode items, or gameplay objects for $5 or 500 “moola” in the Marketplace. I wanted to share my thoughts on the kits and whether I believe they are worth the money.
The Sims 4 Kits
To begin with, I will provide a list of the kits and a brief overview of the Create-A-Sim (CAS), build mode, and gameplay kits currently available. As a reminder, each of these kits is $5, with the exception of the SpongeBob and Bridgerton collaboration kits, which are $7.
CAS Kits
- Throwback Fit Kit – 90s-themed athletic clothing
- Incheon Arrivals Kit – semi-formal and casual clothing inspired by the international airport in South Korea
- Fashion Street Kit – contemporary streetwear clothing inspired by Fashion Street in Mumbai
- Modern Menswear Kit – trendy men’s clothing
- Carnaval Streetwear Kit – exuberant Carnival-themed clothing
- Moonlight Chic Kit – classic and trendy Parisian-style date night clothing
- First Fits Kit – trendy, casual clothing for kids
- Simtimates Kit – underwear, bodysuits, and boxers
- Grunge Revival Kit – nonconforming grunge-style clothes and accessories
- Poolside Splash Kit – swimwear and accessories
- Goth Galore Kit – goth-themed clothing and accessories
- Urban Homage Kit – clothing inspired by the 80s, 90s, and 00s urban chic culture in London
- Sweet Slumber Party Kit – cozy and stylish sleepwear and nighttime routine accessories
- Business Chic Kit – tailored businesswear
- Sweet Allure Kit – casual coquette clothing and accessories
- Golden Years Kit – relaxed and practical clothing for elder sims
- Essential Glam Kit – a variety of makeup
- Autumn Apparel Kit – autumn-themed clothing with layered looks

- Book Nook Kit – bookshelves, seating, and bookroom items

- Party Essentials Kit – decor for the perfect party

Build Mode with CAS Kits
- Secret Sanctuary Kit – opulent furniture with sophisticated clothing for feminine sims
- Casanova Kit – furniture for a modern entertainment space and laidback clothing for masculine sims
- SpongeBob Kid’s Room Kit – SpongeBob-themed furniture and clothing for kids for $7
Gameplay Kits
- Bust the Dust Kit – adds dust and vacuuming
My Thoughts on The Sims 4 Kits
If you purchased all the kits, the total would be $308. However, I believe the kits are not intended for people to purchase every single one. Instead, players are meant to purchase the ones they are interested in. With that said, I do believe the $5 price tag is too high. The price is not worth it, considering the number of items you get in each kit. Also, the kits never go on sale, unlike the Expansion Packs, which are frequently 50% off. The Game Packs and Stuff Packs are 30% off during the sales.
As of writing this post, I currently own 12 kits – Little Campers Kit, Cozy Bistro Kit, Storybook Nursery Kit, and Comfy Gamer Kit, which are the only kits I have purchased. I also own the Desert Luxe Kit, which was given out for free for those who owned the base game before the base game became free. I then received the Fashion Street Kit as part of the free Daring Lifestyle Bundle on Epic Games and the Blooming Rooms Kit, which was free for PC players.
Furthermore, I purchased The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle, which included The Sims Legacy Collection and The Sims 2 Legacy Collection, and for some reason, the Throwback Fit Kit and Grunge Revival Kit. When I purchased the Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack, I received the Silver Screen Style Kit and Tea Time Solarium Kit. Lastly, when the Marketplace was launched, I claimed the Country Kitchen Kit for free.
For my play style, I focus the most on gameplay, which is why the Little Campers, Cozy Bistro, Storybook Nursery, and Comfy Gamer Kits were appealing. Even though no new gameplay was added, many of the items are functional. For example, the Backyard TV Projector, Cozy Backyard Firepit, Cozy Little Swing Set, Bigfoot Stuffie, Crafty Little Car Activity Table, and Up, Up into the Stars Dollhouse are all functional items in the Little Campers Kit.
I do occasionally build in The Sims, but my builds lean more traditional and sometimes modern, and I have not felt compelled to purchase any of the other build kits. As far as the CAS kits, I do not spend enough time in CAS to justify spending $5 on a set of clothes. Based on my style of gameplay, the kits are not worth the price.
The Sims 4 Kits versus The Sims 4 Stuff Packs
The Sims 4 Kits cost $5, but for $10 (on sale for $7), you can purchase a Stuff Pack like The Sims 4 Paranormal Stuff Pack or several other ones I recommend like The Sims 4 Crystal Creations Stuff Pack, The Sims 4 Home Chef Hustle Stuff Pack, The Sims 4 Tiny Living Stuff Pack and The Sims 4 Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack which comes with a selection of CAS, build items, and new gameplay. For example, in the Paranormal Stuff Pack, you will get 33 hairs and clothing compared to 26 clothing items in the Fashion Street Kit or 28 items in the Silver Screen Style Kit. Along with CAS, the Paranormal Stuff Pack includes 39 build items compared to 25 items in the Little Campers Kit and 27 items in the Music Den Kit.
Lastly, the Paranormal Stuff Pack adds the medium skill, the paranormal investigator career, the haunted house lot type, and the seance table, which gives you the ability to summon Bonehilda. The only kit that added new gameplay was the Bust the Dust Kit. However, it was a bust because I have seen that the dust accumulates quickly, your sims will be spending all day just vacuuming, and vacuuming at times can be buggy. I have also read that the best thing about the Bust the Dust Kit is the ability to turn off the dust. So in comparison, the Paranormal Stuff Pack includes more CAS, build items, and gameplay than an individual kit, and you only have to pay $2 more for the Stuff Pack when it is on sale.

I haven’t actually ever played Sims before. But I know it continues to be extremely popular. I do think if I started playing it, I would be less productive. Thank you for sharing.

You can play the Sims for hours at a time, so it would definitely cut into productivity. However, I tend to play the Sims when I don’t have many obligations such as during holidays and breaks

I love that you are posting about this, I am so NOT a gamer but I love watching from the sidelines. I have horrible memories of my sister playing Sims back in the day and leaving her kids unattended and they burst into flames or child services picked them up – I was way too invested and traumatized to try it out myself 🙂

The only sims pack I have is blooming rooms, and I use that one a lot since I love designing with lots of plants! Honestly, EA should at least put the kits on sale for 20-30% off at least or even make them free because on top of the game packs and expansion packs, the Sims isn’t truly free. However, I have my eye on the Courtyard Oasis pack as the Build mode things remind me of the Moorish designs I saw while in Spain. Great post!
The blooming rooms kit does look nice, but for me, I can’t justify spending $5 on a set of plants. It’s good to hear that you get a lot of use out of it though. I agree they should put the kits on sale like the other packs or they can also offer a bundle where if you buy 3 kits, you save some money (like the expansion pack/game pack/stuff pack bundle they already offer)

The Sims has definitely come a long way since I first started playing the first iteration. These kits were specifically added for The Sims 4, but they aren’t worth spending $5 on them when there’s so many better packs to spend your money on.
The Sims used to be one of my most favorite games. Not really sure why I stopped playing. Your article makes me want to go buy the game and get started again.
The Sims 4 base game is free so you should definitely play again! They’ve added a ton to the base game since it was first released, so it’s worth checking out

Yea there’s no reason to buy all the kits especially when you’re paying $5 for ~25 clothing items or build mode items
I haven’t played SIMS in years — way too long ago to really know much about any of it; but with that said, it’s good to have a breakdown of the extras as it’s one of those games that people often come back around to. I may have to check SIMS 4 out …!
The Sims 4 base game is free so it is worth checking it out! I think many of the expansion packs are worth the money, but these $5 kits with just a small number of clothing or build mode items are not!
I have only got one kit, and that’s the one that was free like you said. I didn’t find it very appealing, because there isn’t much stuff. I agree that they should definitely be cheaper too. Loved reading this post as I haven’t really discussed with anyone but totally agree with your thoughts x
It is nice that they gave out the one kit for free, but I definitely would not have purchased it otherwise because there isn’t enough stuff in the kits to justify spending $5 on them.

It has changed a lot since then! For The Sims 3, they had the The Sims 3 Store which is where you could literally spend $1 on a single chair so it seems like the kits in The Sims 4 are trying to do something similar where you spend $5 for a small number of build mode items or clothing, but it’s not worth the money.

This is really helpful. I’m going to be getting The Sims again soon as I have a new laptop for Christmas. I used to love The Sims 3, so I’m tempted to get that one again but I might consider 4. I don’t think I’d go overboard with these kits. They’re not the same as expansion packs, I assume?
That’s awesome that you got a new laptop for Christmas! I loved The Sims 3 too, but The Sims 4 base game is free so it’s definitely worth downloading and checking out. The kits aren’t the same as expansion packs because with the expansion packs you normally have a new world, tons of new clothing & build mode items & lots of new gameplay whereas these kits are $5 for just a small number of clothes or build mode items. The expansion packs are normally $40, but right now they’re half off, and I also did a ranking of all the expansion packs if you wanted to see which ones are available for The Sims 4

I love the Sims 4 – let’s get that out of the way first. I have most of the expansions, stuff packs etc. BUT I refuse to buy the kits purely because I know I can find similar/better content on CC websites. I think it’s a bit cheeky of EA to ask us to pay for next to nothing in regard to the content.
But that’s just my opinion and by no means should reflect what others think. I just would rather use CC websites.
I have all the expansion packs and some of the stuff/game packs, but yea the only kit I paid for was the little campers one because the items were cute & functional.
I agree that you can find similiar items in the kits on CC websites. Also the sims is now on curseforge to make it even easier to find quality mods & CC!
