AD | We are only a few months away from Christmas and the year ending and honestly, I really do not know how this year has gone by so fast. But here we are staring at the next round of Christmas festivities. Every single Christmas always seems more hectic than the last one, and every single year you likely tell yourself that you are going to be more organized and prepped for the next time. Mostly, we think Christmas is ages away, and then all of a sudden it is on top of us. And even though it comes and goes at the same time each year, it does not make it any easier to prepare.
There is every chance that you already think you should be getting ready for Christmas, and given how close we are to it, you are probably right. But most of us actually wait until December to start preparing, which means that it is often too late. Whether you are shopping for the DJI Mini 4 Pro for your teenager or you are trying to find the toy on trend for the little ones, Christmas is a big deal. Getting prepped for the festivities is a must, and I have some tips to ensure that your Christmas is a solid one.

Tips for Getting Prepped for Christmas
#1 Start Saving Money Now
Even now, as we start moving into October, you can start putting money away and making sure that Christmas is the best you could have. You might have been saving money all year long, so have a look at what savings you currently have and compare it to the list of gifts that you are buying and determine how much more you need. You will not have to save your entire paycheck as you can still make Christmas excellent even with a smaller budget. Save what you can now and start shopping as the Black Friday sales hit to ensure you are prepped for Christmas.
#2 Create a Spreadsheet for Your Budget
Another good way to avoid being surprised by the cost of Christmas alongside the high cost of living we are all experiencing right now is to create a budget on a spreadsheet. When you do this, you will be able to see exactly what your budget is compared to the expenses. Common Christmas expenses do not just come from gifts, but to cards, stocking stuffers, festive outfits, gift wrap, food, and decorations. If you are sending anything overseas, it is also a good idea to get those gifts sorted as soon as you possibly can.
#3 Go Through Your Christmas Decoration Box
A good way to get prepped for Christmas is to see what decorations you already have and what decorations need replacing. Are your Christmas lights all intact or do they have any blown bulbs? That is one of the questions you do need to ask yourself because you need to know whether or not you have to replace these at Christmas time. Organize your decorations in a convenient way so that you can see whether or not you have any smashed baubles or other broken decor, and you will be happy that you did because then you can buy any decor pieces early.
#4 Make a List of Who You are Buying for and What You are Buying
If you make a list of the people that you intend to buy for, you will be able to write down exactly what it is that you are buying and then the price of their gift(s) next to that. Do not forget to include those that you tend to forget until the last minute, such as any teachers at your kid’s school, your neighbors, or your pet. Of course, not everybody buys for those people, but if they are on your regular list then you need to remember them.
#5 Do Not Forget Yourself
While you are getting prepared for Christmas and you are writing lists of gifts down for everybody else, you should not forget yourself. This means that you have to consider the fact that you may have wishes and needs for Christmas too. Once you have your own list written down, you can then give people an idea if they ask you what you would like this year. Every time you think of something that you want, add it to your wish list. You can build this list up and share it with others.
#6 Start Writing Christmas Cards Early
Being prepared for Christmas means making sure that you do not miss your postal run, so getting your Christmas card list written early is important. If you do not have a master list of all the people that you send Christmas cards to, then right now is the time that you need to make one. You do not want to have to thumb through an address book all the time looking for everybody, and you will save so much time knowing exactly who you are going to send Christmas cards to.

#7 Start Considering What You Need to Get Christmas Ready for Everyone Else
Write down everything that comes to mind that you should get organized and prepped for Christmas this year. Even something as simple as remembering to wash the linens for any guests coming to stay or making cookies for Santa is important to go on your list. These brain dumps can help you to remember everything that you would normally do, and it would allow you to get ahead for the Christmas season. If you are planning on eating out for Christmas Day, then you need to make sure that you have booked your meal in advance so that you do not have to shop for it. Plus, let us not forget that Christmas meals often cost triple the amount because of the fact that you have to factor in paying salaries for those who are still working on Christmas Day.
#8 Get to Know Your Traditions
Last year you may have considered starting new traditions for Christmas such as watching a new Christmas movie on Disney+ or a Christmas series on Netflix, but it was too late. There is every chance that there are some fun things that you wish you had done but never got around to doing. Christmas is a hectic time, so you need to make a list of all of the traditions to serve as a holiday bucket list for you to check off. You want to be organized, and that means getting ready for Christmas as early as possible and ticking things off of your list. Having your very own traditions is exciting and if you have children you are going to find it even more to look forward to because they are going to carry those traditions with them as they get older.
#9 Start Planning a Holiday Party
Whether you host yours on Boxing Day or on New Year’s Eve, planning a holiday party with your friends and family is exciting. You need to consider the menu, the theme, and the guest list and decide whether you want the party to be a big blowout or an intimate gathering. Do not forget this is not the same gathering that you would do for your Christmas Day dinner, but a separate event that you would host with your friends and family in tow. It is exciting because Christmas is a time for giving and forgetting your friends and families together.
#10 Plan Your Food
Are you somebody who likes to go to the butchers for Christmas? Do you like to buy your fruit and vegetables early so that you do not have to have a mad scramble on Christmas Eve? You are not alone. Most people like to plan their Christmas meals in advance so that they know exactly what they should be buying. There are so many elements to a good Christmas dinner, from the main dish to the side dishes, and you cannot forget the appetizers and desserts.
Make a list of all of the dishes that you would usually make for Christmas, along with their recipes if you do not have them memorized and their ingredients. Each year you could keep this list tacked inside a cupboard door or somewhere safe so that you can refer to it whenever you want to and not have to write the same list on repeat. In preparation, you could start stocking up on your non-perishables with your regular grocery shop, effectively spreading the cost of Christmas food shopping.
#11 Plan Your Christmas Baking
If you love to make Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, or Christmas cookies, you will know that these baked goods need to be made in advance. Organize your baked goods recipes together and create a master list of the ingredients that you will need when things start going on sale at the end of October after Halloween. You can also bake early and freeze them, so they are ready to defrost for Christmas Day.

#12 Do Not Forget to Enjoy Yourself
This is the season of joy, which means that you need to do what you can to enjoy yourself this Christmas. Even though you are going to be buying and wrapping gifts and planning Christmas dinner or a holiday party, you need to understand that Christmas is a time of excitement and giving, and that means that you need to put yourself in a good position where you are also having fun.
Belle!! I love this post so much – it’s definitely getting me in the Christmas spirit. A couple years ago, I started a running list of people and ideas which made gift getting wayyy easier, so I can 👍🏼 that recommendation. I didn’t think about creating a list for myself though. Definitely more helpful than shrugging and saying “I dunno.”
Thanks for sharing these ideas! pinning now
Thank you! I started making lists too because it does make it easier to keep track of everything and stick to a budget.
It is good to make list for yourself too! I need to make a list for myself now as my parents want to send me a few gifts and it does take some time to ship from the US to Denmark
Getting prepped for Christmas is always a delightful whirlwind of decorating, gift shopping, and festive planning. It’s a time when anticipation and holiday spirit fill the air, bringing families and friends closer together to celebrate the magic of the season. 🎄🎁✨
I completely agree!
Can’t believe Christmas is here again. To be honest, Christmas in Jamaica is a vibe and miss it so much. The festivities, food culture, traditions and music will take you another level of happiness and always put you in a good mood compared to in the US. I like your idea of using a spread sheet to budget our Christmas spending, especially with the inflating we have been experiencing.
It is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner! Christmas in Jamaica does sound amazing!
Yes we’re all experiencing inflation, so it is good to make a budget
Lovely write up
Thanks!
Amazing tips, Karalee! Planning ahead is so important, especially with how quickly time has been flying by lately. Thanks for the inspiration to get a head start for Christmas!
Thank you! I agree it is important because Christmas will be here before we know it!
I am looking forward to browsing Christmas cards for my family & friends again! I have started planning gift ideas for my family, but will definitely write my wishlist too. I like the spreadsheet idea as well x
Same here! That’s great you started planning gift ideas and you’re not forgetting about yourself!
I am a big planner and love to start preparing for Christmas early so this post really speaks to me! Such great tips! Thanks for sharing Karalee!
Thank you! That’s great you like to prepare early too!
For once, I’m way ahead of the game. I’ve bought almost all of my Christmas gifts already, and I’m free to just enjoy the fall season and holiday season as they come. Thanks for sharing these tips! Might send along to some of my less prepared friends and family.
That’s fantastic you already bought most of your Christmas presents! I do most of my Chrsitmas shopping in November, but I have bought a couple of gifts here and there.
Great tips! I have just booked a Christmas market trip to Strasbourg. You are right about keeping track of expenditure with early planning.
Thank you! That sounds so exciting, and I hope you enjoy your trip!
