AD | It is not always easy to do your best. There are those days when all you want to do is curl up in bed. However, you should not always have to rely on your motivation or even your confidence to be able to get up and go. If you only rely on motivation to feel good about yourself, you can fall short of what you need. Sometimes you can feel down or scared, and other times you can just feel stuck.
If you have big plans, but life is not moving forward for you, your plans may not get you anywhere. While you cannot control everything in your world, you can try to control how you feel. You might find that you have to work extra hard to try and feel better though, but it is worth it. One of the things that you can do for yourself now is to work to stay healthy and be more positive. You can look at getting a new haircut and flip through those stacked bob looks you found in a magazine. You can look to be more positive in your everyday life, and it can really work to make you feel good about yourself. But for that to happen, you have to make sure that you are approaching happiness from more than one angle.
You have to look at all angles and all the things that could happen if you do not reach those goals that you want. Instead of waiting for something specific to happen in life to feel good, you can make yourself feel good now while you wait. You have to make a conscious decision to feel good in order for life to feel happy, and it is vital that you decide that you are ready to feel good now. From work to health to happiness, all these aspects can help you to feel incredible, but there are some things that you can do right now to make you feel better and feel good about yourself.
#1 Let Go of All the Noise
You can feel good by letting go of all the noise, and there are two interpretations of this point: one is wearing noise-canceling headphones and literally shutting off the noise, and the other is looking at the noise in your life. Do you have a job, but it is noisy because your coworkers are not that great and the pay is not as high as you would like it to be? If you have a partner, are you feeling fulfilled in your relationship? If you have children, are you getting some time to spend with your friends as well? Addressing the noise in your life can make you feel so much lighter and less stressed. Also, if you find yourself getting sucked into bad news and negative discussions, you can take yourself away from that noise.
#2 Step Away from the Screen
Your whole outlook can be influenced by the screen in your hand. Your phone is a fantastic tool when you need it, but if you are allowing it to dictate your life, it can make you feel bad about certain situations. You may need your phone, but do you really need it that much to the point where you are spending all your time on it? Of course, you do not. Putting down your phone is a good way to make yourself feel good because doom scrolling is draining. Limiting your screen time as much as you can helps you have energy and to feel good about yourself. Light a scented candle and treat yourself to some mindful moments away from the screen.
#3 Stop Comparing Yourself to Others.
Another good reason to limit your screen time is that it can help you stop comparing yourself to others on social media. We can spend a lot of time comparing our lives, our bodies, and our personalities to other people including people we do not even know. You can compare yourself to the models and celebrities on Instagram, but how is this serving you? How is comparing your body, your personality, and your life going to make you feel good? The clear answer here is that it is not. It is not going to make you feel good nor is it going to make you feel safe, and the best thing that you can do is to stop that comparison.
#4 Work on Getting More Sleep
When we do not sleep, we cannot think clearly. We also do not have much energy, and we might not have much happiness. It can feel like the world is falling in around you when you are deprived of rest. If you want to feel better and generally feel good about yourself, make sure that you have a consistent nighttime routine. It is nice to have a late night here and there, but it is not beneficial to have late nights too often. When you prioritize your sleep, you are prioritizing restoration and healing. With good rest, you can feel good and be more on top of your game.
#5 Start Enjoying Down Time
Even when you are resting, it does not mean that you are not doing anything right. You do not have to be busy all the time to have value in your life. In fact, downtime can be great for you as it is good to be able to slow down and prioritize that rest. Not only that, but it is also important that you actually enjoy the rest that you are prioritizing. Rest can be excellent for you, and if you are giving yourself the time to rest, you can see the benefits.
#6 Move Your Body to Make it Feel Good
You do not have to drag yourself down to the gym to exercise, but you should aim to move your body every day so you can feel good about yourself. You can go for a walk in the morning when the sun is not as high and the weather is cooler outside or you can go for a run in the evening as the sun is setting and you can enjoy the beautiful colors of the sunset as well while you run. Also, you can do a quick workout at home, find a dance class to join, or do any form of exercise that works for you. It is good for your mind to move every day, and it can help you feel better about yourself.
#7 Study Something
As adults, we may not consider the benefits of studying, especially if we are in our dream careers. However, the world is packed full of knowledge and information and you could be a part of accessing that knowledge if you choose to study something new. Maybe you want to learn about nutrition or food, or you are interested in alternative therapies, no matter what you choose to study you can look after yourself better.
Doing something that is good for you is a great thing, and you should make it a priority this year. You can start with the suggestions above to do good things for yourself.

Thank you!
These are all such important ways to make yourself feel great. It’s hard to not make comparisons, especially when it feels like someone has it easier than you. But it always leads to unhappiness.
I agree it is hard to not compare yourself especially with social media. However, on social media, people usually only share the best parts of their lives so someone can appear to have a better or easier life, but you have no idea what goes on behind the screen and things may not be all sunshine and rainbows.
Very informative article thank you 😊
You’re welcome!
stepping away from the screen and cutting out the noise are so important for me!

Yes it is always beneficial to take a break from the screens and identifying and cutting out the noise in your life is great too.
I take time out to ride my four-wheeler, read books, and spend time with my family. I also take time to just lie down in silence at least once a week too. These are all some good tips.

That’s great it got you thinking!
This post is so powerful and beneficial for the start of a new year. Comparison is something I have struggled with, but I will keep working on this. It will definitely make you feel better about yourself. Thank you for sharing.
Lauren
I have struggled with comparison too because especially on social media, it is easy to compare your life to someone else’s. That’s great you have been working on not comparing yourself.
I was just laid off from my job (I’m sure you’ve heard of all the recent lay-offs in the tech industry) and this blog post could not have come at a better time. Really going to take this opportunity to disconnect from my screen in some ways and stay away from discourse for a while.
I’m so sorry to hear you have been laid off from your job. Yes it would be good to take a break from the screens and focus on yourself during this difficult time.
We’re working on getting more sleep. It’s so important for self-care. Stop comparing yourself to other is something everyone should remember. It’s hard, but necessary.
That’s great you’re working on getting more sleep, and yes, not comparing ourselves to others can be hard, but it is necessary.
Great article! Lots of good advice!
Thank you!
Good points. I love to just have down time and think about things. I usually follow this with a nap haha.
