During the summer with the warmer weather, it is important we look after ourselves, and for some summer self-care tips, I will be sharing Jenny’s wonderful guest post.
Self care is important all year round but Summer time is most certainly a time of year that requires us to be a bit more aware of our self care habits and adjust them accordingly to the season.
Gone are the hot evening bubble baths of Winter. Summer is a time for a fresh set of self care ideas to help you adapt physically and mentally to this new season.
A lot of people struggle with Summer for a variety of reasons. The heat, the lack of air conditioning in UK homes, the constant pressure to be having fun, and the extra focus on our bodies. Not to mention hay fever.
It’s no surprise that we need to up our self care game this time of year and we will be addressing both physical and mental self care tips below!
Buy the fan
Fans are never not needed in the Summer. When that first random heatwave rolls around and you realise you need a fan, by the time you’ve actually gone to purchase the fan, all the fans are sold out. So buy the fan. As soon as possible.
Swap out your duvet for a sheet
Sleep can be horrendous in the Summer, especially in UK homes without air conditioning. It’s the worse time of the day and can even make you feel physically ill. To make sleeping a little more comfortable, ditch the duvet and just use a sheet.
Buy a reusable water bottle
I’m always THAT person to repeat the importance of hydration over and over again in the Summer. A reusable water bottle is a great way to help the environment and an easier way to stay hydrated during the day. If you struggle drinking plain water, you can even find bottles that allow you to infuse fruit into the water for some extra flavour!
Stock up on SPF
An obvious point but I think we’ve probably all been caught out once or twice when it comes to SPF. Keep a small bottle with you wherever you go and keep a good stock at home. But don’t forget to check the use by dates!
Don’t feel pressured online
Summer is a time when a lot of people feel pressured to be outside enjoying the sun or having lots of plans and going on exotic holidays. Summer isn’t easy for everyone and having lots of plans isn’t always possible. I know this is easier said than done but try not to feel pressured by people online who are only showing you the highlights of their Summer.
Ditch the scales
Summer can be difficult for people with body image issues and for many people, it’s an uncomfortable time of wearing clothes that are unsuitable for the season but hide our bodies. The term “bikini body” will have already surfaced and although this isn’t a problem that will get fixed over night, one thing you can do is ditch the scales. You already have a bikini body – whatever your size.
We should all try and enjoy Summer in our own way. If you’re not a fan of the heat then if that means sitting in front of a fan reading a book all day, then so be it! But I hope these simple tips can help you get through the Summer season a little easier!
