Book Series I Have Finished (and the Ones I Want to Complete)

Since starting my blog in 2016, there have been numerous book series I have finished. In this post, I want to share my overall thoughts on the series I have finished, along with some series I am looking forward to completing one day.

What Qualifies as a Book Series?

For this post, a book series will be two or more books that generally follow the same characters, have an overarching plot, or are set in the same universe.

Book Series I Have Finished

Simonverse Series by Becky Albertalli

The first book, Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda, follows Simon, who is a junior in high school. He is gay and has not come out to his family or friends. The following books follow Molly, Leah, and then the novella Love, Creekwood follows Simon, Bram, Leah, and Abby.

In 2018, I read Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda, and I finished the series in 2022 with Love, Creekwood. I loved the first two books of the series, but I feel like it went downhill with Leah on the Offbeat. I loved following Simon and then Molly, and I enjoyed their stories, but I did not like Leah at all. Also, I did not like the email format of the novella.

What If It’s Us Series by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera

Both What If It’s Us and Here’s To Us follow Ben and Arthur. Ben grew up in New York City, while Arthur is interning there for the summer. Ben and Arthur meet at the post office, but then they are separated by a flash mob.

I read What If It’s Us in 2019, and I read the sequel in 2024. I liked the series and seeing what happens between Ben and Arthur. However, the first book was stronger than the sequel.

Carmilla by Amy Chu

Carmilla is a graphic novel series inspired by Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu. The series follows Athena, a social worker investigating the murder of young women in New York City. The third book follows Athena’s daughter, Ella.

I read the first two volumes in 2025 and the final volume in 2026. Overall, I enjoyed the series, but I preferred the first two volumes that followed Athena’s perspective and explored more of Chinese folklore.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before Series by Jenny Han

The series follows Lara Jean, who wrote love letters to the boys she has loved and kept them. However, the letters are mysteriously mailed, and her past crushes confront her.

I read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before in 2019 and finished the series in 2023. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before was a good start, and I loved that it included the fake dating trope. However, I felt like the series progressively got worse as the main conflict in P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean could have been solved if the characters simply talked to each other.

Bird Box Series by Josh Malerman

Bird Box is a post-apocalyptic series following Malorie and her two children, who are surviving in a world that is plagued by creatures, and seeing a creature leads to death.

I read Bird Box in 2018, then the sequel in 2024. I enjoyed the creepy atmosphere of Bird Box, but I was disappointed in Malorie. The sequel does not add anything to the universe or give you any answers beyond what you learned about the creatures in Bird Box.

The Housemaid Series by Freida McFadden

The Housemaid series follows Millie, who is down on her luck. She is given the opportunity to be a live-in housemaid, but things are not what they seem.

I read the entire The Housemaid series in 2025, and overall, I liked the series. The first book was the best as I did not know what to expect, but the following books follow a similar formula. Also, I hated the short story The Housemaid’s Wedding, and it is not worth reading.

Heartstopper Series by Alice Oseman

Heartstopper follows Nick and Charlie, who attend the Truham Grammar School for Boys. They are placed in the same form group, and Charlie starts falling for Nick, but he believes he does not have a chance.

I read the first volume in 2022 and finished the series in 2026 when the final volume was released. Heartstopper is my favorite graphic novel series, and I can see myself rereading it in the future. Along with the Heartstopper series, I have read This Winter, Nick and Charlie, and Radio Silence.

Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Series by Ransom Riggs

Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children begins when Jacob visits an island in Wales where his grandfather grew up during the war. On the island, he explores an abandoned children’s home and realizes his grandfather’s stories were true.

I read Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children in 2016 and finished the series in 2024. The series had a great start, but it waned in the middle, and ended with a good conclusion. I did enjoy the mystery in the books and learning about the peculiar world.

Days at the Morisaki Bookshop Series by Satoshi Yagisawa

The series follows Takako, who stays with her uncle in Tokyo and helps run Morisaki Bookshop after a heartbreak. The second book continues the story.

I read both books in 2025, and I thought the first book was fine, but I enjoyed the sequel much more.

Book Series I Want to Finish

Beartown Series by Fredrik Backman

I read and loved Beartown and Us Against You, and I plan to read The Winners one day, which is the final book in the series. The series follows the residents of Beartown and the fate of their small town. I am intrigued to see how the series concludes.

Legends & Lattes Series by Travis Baldree

I read Legends & Lattes in 2025 and loved it, as it is about Viv the orc, who hangs up her sword to open a coffee shop. Then, in 2026, I read the sequel, Brigands & Breadknives, but I did not like it as much because it had much more action and was not cozy like Legends & Lattes. I do want to read the prequel, Bookshops & Bonedust, though.

The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins

In 2025, I read both The Hunger Games and Catching Fire as I had never read the trilogy growing up. I want to read Mockingjay and finish the series, then read Sunrise on the Reaping.

They Both Die at the End Series by Adam Silvera

I have read both The First to Die at the End and They Both Die at the End, and I was drawn in because I found the concept of knowing the day you will die fascinating and seeing what people will do with the time they have left. I do want to read The Survivor Wants to Die at the End, and at some point, the fourth and final book, No One Knows Who Dies at the End, when it is released.

Lo Blacklock Series by Ruth Ware

The Woman in Cabin 10 is my favorite book by Ruth Ware, as it follows travel journalist Lo Blacklock on a luxury cruise, and she sees a woman thrown overboard, but all the crew and guests are accounted for in the morning. The Woman in Suite 11 is the sequel that is about Lo again when she attends the opening of a luxury Swiss hotel.
