September 2025 Sakuraco Box Review

I have seen social media ads for Sakuraco, which is a Japanese snack subscription box. I decided to treat myself and try the September 2025 box, which was themed around the Autumn Moon Festival, known as Tsukimi.

What is Sakuraco?

Sakuraco is a monthly snack subscription box with Japanese snacks, sweets, and tea made by local makers. The Sakuraco box is $37.50 a month plus shipping, and worldwide shipping is available. If you do sign up for a 3, 6, or 12-month subscription, each box will be $35.50, $33.50, or $32.50. You can also get a premium tea pairing for $10 a month, but I opted out of the premium tea as I only wanted to try one box. Also, Sakuraco is an Ichigo brand, which the TokyoTreat, YumeTwins, and nomakenolife subscriptions are also part of.

I paid a total of $45 for the September Sakuraco box. The box itself was $32.50 because I had a $5 discount code for my first box, and then shipping was $12.50. I ordered the box on September 15, and it shipped on September 22nd. I then received the box on October 3rd. The boxes are shipped from Japan, so do keep that in mind.

What is Tsukimi?

Tsukimi is the Japanese moon-viewing festival for the autumn moon. Tsukimi takes place on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. For 2025, Tsukimi was on October 6. Tsukimi began in the Heian period (794-1185) when courtiers would gather to write poetry and admire the moon, marking the arrival of the autumn harvest. Today, Tsukimi is celebrated by offering tsukimi dango, susuki (pampas grass), and seasonal produce to the moon. Families also share moon-inspired dishes and seasonal sweets while admiring the full moon.

What is Included in the September Sakuraco Box?

With every subscription box, you will receive a snack guide. For the September box, the snack guide included the history of Tsukimi along with stories, background on a couple of confectioneries in Japan that made the treats for the box, and descriptions of all the treats, including a picture of the packaging, allergen information, and whether it is vegetarian-friendly. The treats included in the Sakuraco box are:

• Usagi Manju: a small rabbit-shaped pastry filled with a sweet white bean paste that melts in your mouth
• Tsukimi Gokokucha: an earthy 5-grain tea made from hato mugi, black soybeans, barley, azuki red beans, and brown rice
• Tsukimi Cookie: a spiced cookie with 2 adorable rabbits watching the moon
• Usagi Soft Chew: pink and white jelly-like rabbit that has a slightly sweet flavor
• Tsukimi Mikan Cream Cookie: thin cookies with a delicious mikan cream (Japanese citrus) that has a rabbit under the moon on the top cookie
• Koshian Daifuku: a chewy rice flour dough filled with red bean paste
• Salt Truffle & Cheese Arare: Hokkaido cheese powder and black truffle flavored arare
• Sesame Senbei: a roasted sesame senbei with a soy sauce and sesame flavor
• Cheese Jari Mame: a snack made from mixing roasted sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and almonds that is crunchy and has a nice cheese powder flavor
• Usagi Pon Senbei: a classic pon senbei made from a blend of 5 types of flours and 6 soy sauces, which has a good flavor
• Japanese Pudding Dorayaki: light and fluffy mini pancake layers with a delicious custard cream and caramel sauce
• Shio Kenpi: candied sweet potato sticks that are nice and crunchy
• Blueberry Tart: blueberry tartlets with a flavorful blueberry jam
• Tsukimi Yonomi: a beautiful Japanese teacup embossed with the harvest moon, susuki, and rabbits

Overall Thoughts on Sakuraco

I enjoyed trying a variety of Japanese treats on Tsukimi. Out of the 13 snacks, there was only one I could not try, the Salt Truffle & Cheese Arare, as it contained fish sauce. The rest were vegetarian-friendly, and I do think it is great that I could eat most everything from the box.

My top 3 favorite treats from the box are the Japanese Pudding Dorayaki, Tsukimi Mikan Cream Cookie, and Blueberry Tart. I have never had dorayaki, and the small pancakes were delicious, and I loved the filling. I have also never tried mikan before, and the cookies were thin like wafers, and the citrus cream was exquisite. Lastly, the blueberry jam in the tart was so good.

On the other hand, my least favorite treats were the Tsukimi Gokokucha, Koshian Daifuki, and Sesame Senbei. I liked being able to try the tea, but the earthiness was not for me. Compared to the other treats, the Koshian Daifuki was just okay. Lastly, the Sesame Senbei was nice, but I found myself comparing it to the Usagi Pon Senbei, which I liked a lot more. That said, taste is subjective, and I overall enjoyed my experience of trying the treats.

Also, when I ordered the Sakuraco box, I thought it would only contain snacks. When I saw the Tsukimi Yonomi, I was surprised. I do love that each month’s box comes with a homeware item, and previous month’s boxes have included dishes, chopsticks, and a tenugui (a Japanese decorative towel). When I am done eating all the snacks, I love that I can keep using the teacup.

Would I Recommend Sakuraco?

The final question is, would I recommend Sakuraco? Based on my experience, I would have to say yes. The box included snacks, sweets, a tea, and even a homeware item. I enjoyed the experience of trying the treats on Tsukimi, and I love the teacup. If you are interested in Japanese treats, I would recommend trying Sakuraco. Also, I have since purchased the Onsen Retreat Advent Calendar from Sakuraco, as it contains 12 homeware items and 12 Japanese snacks and teas, and I am excited to see what items are included!
