It has been years since I cancelled my GoodieBox subscription. However, for Black Friday, GoodieBox had a Mystery Self Care Box. I was intrigued since the boxes were half the price of the normal subscription. Also, I wanted to see what I think of the GoodieBox products in 2024.
What is GoodieBox?
GoodieBox is a Danish beauty subscription box with 5-7 skincare, makeup, and haircare items each month. The subscription is 199 kr / $28 a month, and the items have a minimum value of 650 kr / $91. Also, GoodieBox has expanded to other countries in Europe. The subscription is available in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
What is the Self Care Mystery Box?
For Black Friday, GoodieBox had a Mystery Self Care Box for 99 kr / $14, which is half the price of a normal box. The mystery box included 7 items, and you could choose one of the items. The box is curated with skin care products and must-have makeup that leaves you feeling pampered and rejuvenated. If you continue the GoodieBox subscription, next month’s box will be the full price of 199 kr / $28.
GoodieBox Self Care Mystery Box Items
Munthe Nail Polish (Full Size)
The Munthe Nail Polish is a brown-burgundy color that is easy to apply, dries quickly, and has an intense color payoff. Munthe is a Danish brand based in Copenhagen that seems to sell clothing, but I cannot find the nail polish for sale anywhere. I could only find individuals selling bottles for 15-20 kr / $2-3, which I assume they received in the GoodieBox. However, according to GoodieBox, the nail polish has a value of 90 kr / $12.50.
The nail polish seemed like it would be a good color for the holidays, but when I tried it out, it was more of a purple color than a brown-burgundy color. The nail polish is also streaky and needs at least 2 layers, but it does dry quickly. With 2 layers, the nail polish does become a bit deeper, but it is still not a brown-burgundy color.
Tromborg Lip Cure (Full Size)
Tromburg Lip Cure is made with natural ingredients including macadamia, shea butter, aloe vera, and vitamin E to heal, soften, and moisturize dry and flaky lips. Tromborg is a Danish skincare and makeup brand founded in 2003 by Marianne Tromborg who worked as a professional makeup artist. The Lip Cure is available on the Tromborg website for 160 kr / $22.50.
I thought the Lip Cure would be more like a lip balm, but the white color and texture remind me more of a face cream. However, the Lip Cure does make my lips feel soft and moisturized. I can see myself reaching for the Lip Cure during the colder months.
Raw Perfection Raw Hyaluronic Drops (Deluxe Size)
The Raw Hyaluronic Drops from Raw Perfection moisturize and nourish the skin to leave your skin softened, firmer, and with a youthful glow. Raw Perfection is a Swedish skincare brand, and the drops are vegan and can be used in the morning and evening after cleansing. The drops can also be added to a serum or face cream. The Raw Hyaluronic Drops are 221 kr / $31 on the Raw Perfection website.
I tried the drops after cleansing my face, but the drops are more like a thick clear liquid than actual drops. I applied a little bit of the drops to my face, and it was easy to apply and it dried quickly. However, it did give my face a slight stickiness even though I only applied a small amount of the product. I also did not really tell a difference in the appearance or softness of my face after applying the drops.
Moshi Moshi Mind Bath Bombs (Full Size)
The Mind Bath Bombs are 3 mini natural and vegan bath bombs with a fresh lemon scent. Moshi Moshi is a Danish brand founded in 2006 by Stine Skjoldborg and Rikke Rasmussen. The brand sells clothing including yoga clothing and equipment for women to have a multifunctional wardrobe. Furthermore, Moshi Moshi has a selection of well-being items including the Mind Bath Bombs which are 99 kr / $14.
I thought the bath bombs were a bit of a weird choice to include because many homes and especially apartments in Denmark do not have bathtubs and only have showers. However, the Moshi Moshi website did mention using the bath bombs in a foot bath, which I tried. The bath bomb lasts for a few minutes before fizzing away and dissolving. The bath bomb does have a nice lemon scent and leaves my feet feeling soft.
Warda Refreshing Foot Cream (Full Size)
The Warda Refreshing Foot Cream absorbs quickly and softens rough skin, reduces dryness, and provides lasting moisture. The foot cream can be used daily or after a long day on your feet. Warda is a London-based brand and their products are made in the EU. The Refreshing Foot Cream is £49.99 / 447 kr / $63 on the Warda website.
My heels can occasionally get dry and cracked, so it is good to have a foot cream like this on hand. My heels are currently not cracked, but they were a bit dry. I used the foot cream on both my feet, and the foot cream does have a strong menthol scent. However, the cream did rub in nicely and absorbed quickly. Also, my feet did feel softer after applying the cream.
London Botanical Laboratories Protection Conditioner (Full Size)
This was the one item that I got to choose. I had a choice between 4 items including the Skøn Skincare Repair Microbiome Day Creme, Comme Deux Fuse Face Cream, Able Skincare Anti-Ageing Duo Moisturizer, and this London Botanical Laboratories Protection Conditioner. Since I did not need a face cream, I chose the item that I would actually use – the conditioner. The conditioner nourishes and protects hair, promotes scalp health, and leaves hair strong and soft. London Botanical Laboratories is a London-based brand and the conditioner is £49,99 / 447 kr / $63 on the website.
I have been dying my hair lately, and the conditioner did seem like it would be nice to try out. The conditioner is not as thick as normal conditioners, and it has a strong perfume scent because it contains parfum. The conditioner did make my hair feel soft, but I feel like I can get the same results from a standard conditioner.
Marie-Stella-Maris Hand Lotion Lemon Notes (Travel Size)
The last item in the GoodieBox Self Care Mystery Box is the Marie-Stella-Maris Hand Lotion. The hand lotion is vegan and contains natural glycerin, shea butter, and sunflower seed oil to moisturize and soften the hands. Marie-Stella-Maris is a Dutch brand that started in 2011. Furthermore, the brand donates a share of revenue to clean water projects, which I think is great. The full-size hand lotion is €21 / 157 kr / $22 and GoodieBox claims the travel size is worth 85 kr / $12.
My hands do get dry when the weather gets colder, so I was excited to try out the hand lotion. The hand lotion has a nice, energizing lemon scent and it rubs in nicely and absorbs quickly. The lotion also does not make my hands feel sticky or greasy.
My Thoughts on the GoodieBox Mystery Self Care Box
The GoodieBox Mystery Self Care Box contained 7 items, 5 of which were full-size. I think 5 full-size items are great, especially for the 99 kr / $14 price. Furthermore, the items had a value of over 1,500 kr / $213. However, the items are skincare-heavy. Even though the description for the Self Care Box mentioned there would be must-have makeup, there is no makeup. The only non-skincare item is a bottle of nail polish, which I would consider cosmetics instead of makeup.
The conditioner is a hair care item, but out of the 4 choices I had, the other 3 were a face cream. That said, I will use all these items. Out of the 7 items, my favorites are the Marie-Stella-Maris Hand Lotion and the Tromburg Lip Cure. However, I am disappointed that the Munthe Nail Polish is streaky and the Raw Perfection Raw Hyaluronic Drops make my face slightly sticky.
So, will I continue the GoodieBox subscription? I will not. The items were a nice treat, but one of the main reasons why I cancelled GoodieBox was that I had a stockpile of products to use from the boxes. I imagine that would become a problem again if I were to continue the subscription because it does take a while to go through a full-size foot cream or conditioner.
I love reading subscription box reviews! I used to subscribe to FabFitFun but ultimately stopped when I felt it started to add to my clutter, even when I attempted to gift some of the items away. The price point per item grabs my attention first, and then the feeling of anticipating what’s in your box when it arrives. A shame that some of the products didn’t work out!
Thank you! FabFitFun does seem like a good subscription because it does have a mix of beauty and lifestyle items, but I can see how it adds to clutter. When I was subscribed to GoodieBox, I would always gift items too, but I still had a stockpile of products to go through. The price point is definitely attention-grabbing because you do save a lot if you get the subscription instead of buying each item separately!

I like the idea of boxes like this, but as you reviewed here, they don’t always contain the range of things you were hoping for. It’s great that they did provide 5 full size items (I often feel a bit cheated when subscription services like this only do samples).

However, for the price, I am happy that I did get 5 full-size items and the travel/deluxe size items are not tiny samples!

Yes the Self Care Box was a great value for the money, but it is better as a one-time treat instead of a monthly subscription.
