How I Did My Makeup in High School

Updated on September 16th, 2025

For this month’s makeup look, I wanted to share how I did my makeup in high school and create an updated version.

During high school, I had two different makeup styles: every day and for photos. My everyday makeup consisted of concealer, powder foundation, under eyeliner, and a gloss or balm. For photos, my makeup was a more dramatic version of my everyday makeup, and I often used dark eyeshadow shades and a lip color that matched my look. For my look today, I based it on this photo from 2012 (the year I graduated from high school).

I used the same base as my everyday makeup in high school. In high school, I also started experimenting with blush along with highlighting so I used a little bit of highlighter on my cheeks and nose. I kept the dark eyeshadow look and instead of using eyeliner, I used eyeshadow underneath my eyes. Also, I opted to use matching lipstick, and the JSC Soul Sucker liquid lipstick from the Halloween mystery box was a perfect match. However, the lipstick itself is patchy and requires multiple layers, so if you do not have the lipstick, I do not recommend purchasing it from resellers. I hope you enjoyed this throwback to how I did my makeup in high school and my updated version of my makeup from then.

Love both the present and past looks . I used to have blue hair for years , but then I swapped it slowly for pink . I think my honestly my makeup may have gotten bolder and my products are a bit better . I remember wearing black lipstick and blue lipstick and it having the consistency of grease paint. Now theres all these nice finishes and formulas .

omg, I love this post! So creative! I love the new look inspired by your old, genius idea! If only I didn’t delete all the embarrassing pics of my as a teen, I’d totally try this for my own pleasure! Hope you’re staying safe!

I looove the blue hair, you were much bolder than I could have ever been in high school! I remember wearing a lot of black eyeliner pencil only on my bottom lids, and plenty of spidery mascara because I had major lash envy (probably still do). Thankfully my makeup skills have refined a little since then!

Thank you so much! I had a TON of wigs in high school I would wear for photos. In college I actually dyed my hair crazy colors like blue, half black/half red & half black/half purple.
Yes thankfully our makeup skills have improved since then haha
