NYX Studio Finishing Powder Review

Updated on March 30th, 2023

I have been wanting to try a finishing powder for setting my foundation, and I decided to purchase the NYX Studio Finishing Powder at Ulta.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission if you make a purchase through my links, but there is no extra cost to you.

The NYX Studio Finishing Powder

The NYX Studio Finishing Powder is a loose, fine white powder, but it is translucent once on my skin. The powder is easy to apply with a makeup brush, but it is messy due to how fine the powder is. I also found the container to be too big because there is always powder above the holes and in the lid. However, the finishing powder does blend easily and helps set my makeup. You can also the finishing powder alone, but I would prefer to use it to set my makeup. Furthermore, the powder also helps control shine during the day, and my face remains oil-free. The finishing powder also works with other skin types including normal, dry, combination, and sensitive.

I have not had an issue with the finishing powder showing up as white in flash photos, but I know this can be a problem. I recommend watching how much powder you use because a little does go a long way and too much powder can make you look like a ghost in flash photos.

As far as the price, the NYX finishing powder is $11 for .21 ounces or $52.38 per ounce. Compared to other finishing powders like the Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder, which is $35 for .26 ounces or $134.61 per ounce, the NYX powder is a better value.

Overall, the NYX finishing powder is a good finishing powder if you are looking for an affordable powder that gets the job done and sets your makeup. However, do be aware of how much powder you do use as do not want to have flashbacks in photos.

$11 at NYX

Rate: 8/10

Have you tried the NYX Studio Finishing Powder?

Have you used the Laura Mercier translucent setting powder? If so, how does this compare? It is MUCH cheaper, so if it works as a dupe, I am definitely going to purchase it!!

I haven’t used that setting powder, but I would still recommend trying NYX’s because it is a good powder.

Great review! Have you used this powder for baking your concealer? I am curious to how it holds up!
Also, I don’t recommend the elf translucent powder. For the face or baking, most of it is a fine powder, but with larger chunks of white. It does not feel nice when those powder chunks get in your eye by accident! 😬

Thanks! I haven’t used it for baking, but I don’t think this powder would be that good because a little does go a long way so if you use too much under your eyes or anywhere else on your face then you may look like a ghost!
Thanks for the insight! It’s weird elf would have large chunks in the powder. This NYX powder is all fine so you won’t have to worry about getting it into your eye!

I’ll check it out! I also have a sample size of Tarte’s finishing powder, and it’s a lot less messy too!

I have oily skin, and I think this is best for people with oily skin because it helps keep the face oil-free, but I also think it can be used with all skin types because it helps set makeup too!
