My Christmas 2021 Anti-Wish List

Every year I enjoy making an anti-wish list of recent makeup releases I do not want for Christmas because it helps me realize that I do not need a ton of makeup, but it is still fun seeing what makeup collections have come out.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Primrose Palette

I am a fan of the metallic and purple shades, but $71 for a 12-shade palette is too much. Also, I do not like the concept of an all-in-one palette because the last two shades are supposed to be a blush and bronzer (hence the bigger pans), but the blush shade would be too light for me and I very rarely use bronzer. You can of course use some of the eyeshadow shades as blush, bronzer, and highlighter, but then it defeats the purpose of the bigger pans.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Primrose Palette

ColourPop Astrology Sets

ColourPop recently released their Astrology Sets, which includes a 4-shade palette and a lip gloss for each of the astrological signs. The sets are $15 each and I think they are cute. I am pleased that the Virgo Palette has mauve and silver shades instead of all browns, but I do not like the lip gloss. Also, earlier this year I bought the Animal Crossing: New Horizons x ColourPop collection and I feel like I could get a similar effect by using the Labelle of the Ball and the What a Hoot palettes, so I do not really need the Virgo Perfect Pair Eye & Lip Set.

All 12 Colourpop astrology kits that include a 4-shade eyeshadow palette and lip gloss for each astrological sign.

ColourPop A Dream Come True Collection

I had to include another ColourPop collection because I feel like they release way too many collections at one time. Along with the Astrology Sets, ColourPop also came out with the A Dream Come True Collection. The collection includes two 12-pan palettes for $18 each and a 6 piece eyeshadow brush set for $19. The palettes are cute, but I would not get much use out of them.

ColourPop Charmed I’m Sure Collection

Again to get the point across, ColourPop releases way too much makeup at once. Literally, The Astrology Sets were released on November 29th, the A Dream Come True Collection on November 30th, and the Charmed I’m Sure Collection on December 1st. Yes, these are not full makeup collections, but still, to come out with 18 eyeshadow palettes in 3 days is absurd. Anyways the Charmed I’m Sure Collection includes four 9-pan palettes for $14 each, and the only palette I think is somewhat interesting is the Locket Down purple-themed palette, but I do not need it. Also, since I started writing this post, ColourPop has released the Feelin’ Bubbly Collection, which includes another 9-pan palette, 3 jelly shadows, 2 highlighters, and 3 glosses.

The 4 eyeshadow palettes from the ColourPop Charmed I’m Sure Collection

Fenty Beauty Liquid Killawatt Fluid Freestyle Highlighter

The latest release from Fenty Beauty is their first liquid highlighters. There are 5 shades and they are pretty, but I detest liquid highlighters and I prefer using powder highlighters. Also, the liquid highlighters are $28 compared to $48 for the regular Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters, but there are duo versions of the regular highlighters so I think it is worth more for your money.

I Heart Revolution x ELF Collection

This collection seems to be packed with everything including a single 18-pan palette for $18, a book with four 18-pan pan palettes for $30, 2 liquid eyeshadows for $12, 3 highlighters for $12, 6 lip glosses for $10-$15, a lip balm and a lip scrub set for $8, a primer for $14, a fixing spray for $8, and some bath and body products. I will say the packaging is cute and you definitely know it is a collab with the Elf movie, but I feel like no one needs a book of 72 eyeshadow shades and the shades of the highlighters and lip glosses are not unique.

NYX Money Heist Collection

NYX‘s latest collection is based on the Netflix series Money Heist (La Casa de Papel). I have not seen any episodes of the series, so I do not understand the Dali mask symbol, but with that aside, the collection includes a 32-pan palette for $40, a 9-pan palette for $18, 2 gold highlighters for $18 each, 2 lipsticks for $10 each, 5 eyeliners for $8 each, and an ink liner for $10. I am not really a fan of the red-themed El Profesor palette, and there are some pretty shades in the Mask palette, but I know I would not get much use out of it. The red and berry lipsticks look like ones you can pick up from any other brand and the only thing I like about the highlighters is that the packaging makes it look like a gold bar.

The NYX Money Heist collection including the 2 eyeshadow palettes, the 2 highlighters, the 2 lipsticks, 5 eyeliners, and ink liner.

Melt Cosmetics Amor y Mariposas Collection

I honestly find Melt Cosmetics overpriced. Their latest collection is pretty, but the 20 shade eyeshadow palette is $70, and the 6 shade blush palette is $58! There are also 5 lipsticks for $22 each, 3 lip pencils for $19 each, 2 gel liners for $22 each, a pigment paint for $22, a hand mirror for $19, and a 7 piece brush set for a whopping $109. The full collection is $450! Since I find Melt Cosmetics overpriced, I am definitely going to have to pass on this collection.

The Melt Cosmetics Amor y Mariposas collection including an eyeshadow palette, blush palette, lipsticks, lip pencils, gel liners, and pigment paint.

Morphe Mickey & Friends Collection

Compared to the other collections I mentioned, this one is rather small and it only includes the Mickey & Friends Truth Be Told palette for $32, a lipstick trio for $20, a 6 piece brush set for $28, and a mirror for $18. For the palette, I do like the mix of matte and shimmer shades, but I feel like if you own a rainbow palette, you do not need this one and for me I know I can find purple, blue, green, etc. shades in my collection. The lipsticks are your generic red, pink, and nude shades. I think the collection would be nice if you love Disney and Mickey Mouse, but for me, it is a pass.

The Morphe Mickey & Friends Collection include the eyeshadow palette, lipsticks, brush set, and mirror.

Tarte Tartelette Full Bloom Amazonian Clay Palette

One of the first palettes I owned was the Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette, and I loved it and got a lot of use out of it. I did at one point want Tartelette In Bloom Clay Palette, but now I shifted from using neutrals to pops of colors. Unlike the In Bloom palette which has 12 shades for $39, the Full Bloom palette has 28 shades for $52. Both palettes have a mix of matte and shimmer rosy and bronze shades, but the Full Bloom palette also has plum shades. I do not really care for the palette, therefore, it is on my anti-wish list.

The Tarte Tartelette Full Bloom Amazonian Clay Palette

Too Faced Forbidden Fruitcake Bite Sized Palette

I will say I love the packaging and it is so cute, but as for the shades, there are 8 shades with a mix of matte and shimmer. The palette does lean more neutral, but there is a pretty pink and an interesting brown with green reflects. The price is $27 ($3.38 per shade), which is the same price as their other mini palettes, but you would get a better value if you went with one of their full-size palettes that has 18 shades for $49 ($2.72 per shade). I will have to pass on this palette because it is not interesting enough and I would pretty much only buy it for the packaging.

The Too Faced Forbidden Fruitcake Bite Sized Palette

Urban Decay Cyber Palette

The packaging is unique, and the 2 duochrome shades and the glitter topper are interesting, but the rest of the palette is meh. The palette is also $49 for 12 shades, which is more expensive when compared to Too Faced. Again, I am not going by a palette just for the packaging especially when most of the shades are boring to me.

The Urban Decay Naked Cyber Eyeshadow Palette

Violet Voss I Rust You Palette

Violet Voss recently released their I Rust Palette which has 20 matte and shimmer rust shades for $45. I do like that there is a mix of matte and shimmer shades, but I am not a fan of the rust shades. I do not find the palette appealing at all, so that is why it is on my anti-wish list.

The Violet Voss I Rust Eyeshadow Palette

Wet n Wild Little Twin Stars Collection

Last but not least, Wet n Wild’s latest collection is a collaboration with Sanrio, and it is based on Little Twin Stars, Kiki and Lala. The collection includes a 15 shade palette, 2 trios with a blush, highlighter, and glitter topper, 2 lip mousse, 2 lip glosses, a lip scrub, a lip mask, 4 eyeliners, a face mist, and accessories including 2 sponges, 2 brushes, a sponge case, a brush cup, and a makeup bag. The packaging is cute, but the shades are pretty much all pastel, which is not really my cup of tea, but they do fit the Little Twin Stars theme. The full collection is $75, which I think is a good price considering all the makeup and accessories that are included.

What is on your Christmas anti-wish list?

I love the idea of an anti-wish list. I agree $71 is a lot of money for a palette, that blush does seem quite light. I do like a good bronzer though! Thank you for sharing.

Okay, I get you don’t want too much makeup especially on Christmas, but I still liked a few things lol. The first palette I agree with. The blush is too whitish. recently I have started liking the idea of all in kne palette. Uts quite handy while travelling. You open it and can do eyes and face in one go, are travel friendly. I have recently started to prefer liquid highlighters. Especially after a few years when you start to age it shows less wrinkles. And heist mask and theme color is as in the season. Good read. Xx

Thank you! I do like the idea of an all in one palette, but it does need to work with your skin tone & that’s where the ABH palette fails. The blush shade would only work for those with the lighest skin tones & then everyone else would just have to use it as an eyeshadow.
That’s great you like liquid highlighters! I’ve tried several from different brands & I’m not a fan. I find them harder to work with than powder highlighters.

Hi Karalee, I already knew about Colorpop (I discovered it years ago but have no products yet). I’m not sure where to buy the brand at a reasonable price where I am (Spain/UK). I found in the past some Colorpop shades are suggested as good dupes for Sephora shades and I love Sephora.

Ah yes. ColourPop is US based so shipping and possible customs fee would add up. I haven’t tried any makeup from Sephora so I can’t tell you how the quality is, but you can try a few shades and see how you like them. As an alternative, I do like using NYX. They sell glitter eyeshadow palettes and metallic single shades. NYX is slightly more expensive than ColourPop, but it is still affordable. They sell NYX in Denmark so I imagine they would sell it there too!

I only have one product from NYX so far, the Soft Matte Lip Cream in Madrid and want more products. I’ve had problems recently with customs costs from the UK and US so may wait awhile before getting makeup. Thanks for the glitter makeup recommendation. Glad to know they do glitter makeup. I wore my Lithium shade from the Moondust palette by Urban Decay for New Year’s Eve. Happy 2022. I’ll definitely keep searching for Colorpop.

Yes I can’t order anything from the US unless I want to pay customs but the fees are ridiculous so I only buy from the EU now.
That’s awesome you brought out the Moondust palette for New Year’s Eve!
I hope you’re having a great start to the new year!

I’m not a big makeup person, but it’s still really fun to see what’s out there. These sets are are really cute and fun! But like you, they’d be on my anti-wish list. My brain is having a hard time comprehending how many sets ColourPop released in three days. That’s crazy! I’d think they’d want to save some for a Valentine’s release or something. I can see all these making cute stocking stuffers though.

They would make cute stocking stuffers, but it seems like ColourPop nonstop releases new makeup. Since writing this post, they’ve released the Lunar New Year, By the Rose, All the Buzz (Ulta exclusive) & Stay Jewel collections plus countless other releases like new lipsticks & single shadows & it hasn’t even been a month.

That’s a lot of makeup releases. Another who non stop release products are Revolution Beauty. I’ve spent most of the last few years using up older makeup waiting for items I really want. Now they have released ones I want and I’m going to buy some more makeup. I’m glad I own a lot of their older palettes (Naked Underneath, I Heart Chocolate Vice, and the Chocolate and Salted Caramel palettes as well as the Golden Bar) because my local drugstore had some of those on sale round Black Friday and now they’re out of stock so I don’t know if I’ll be able to get another if I ever run out. Naked Underneath is a good UD Naked Dupe. I have a feeling some of the older I Heart Chocolate palettes (like the Naked Underneath) are now discontinued. I like the quality of the shadows and the packaging. I am trying to use up the Unicorns Heart Highlighter which I don’t like. It was reviewed by others as being almost silver monochrome when the colours are mixed by swirling a brush around but I’m finding it hard to get that look and get mostly blue and green. (I was given it as a gift and am disappointed in it) but there’s so much product. I sometimes use highlight as eyeshadow and blush. Peachy Pink Kisses is a lot nicer and a lot more “me” so I’ll buy that again if it’s still in stock long-term.

I agree Revolution releases a lot makeup too especially since they numerous subbrands like I Heart Revolution and Revolution Pro. That’s good to know the Naked Underneath palette is a good dupe for UD. I do have one of the I Heart Chocolate palettes, but I just check their website and they no longer sell so I do think you’re right that the older chocolate palettes are discontinued.
I’m sorry to hear you don’t like the Unicorns Heart highlighter, but it’s good you’re still using it up. That’s great the Peachy Pink Kisses is more you!

Great post yes it is very important to really consider what is needed and what you don’t need to be sustainable and eco-friendly. I usually do a list on it as well, I have a free downloadable copy on my site. It is good not to be wasteful. I also agree ColourPop puts out many similar items. Even with their collabs, you can probably find 10 other similiar palettes they’ve released.

I honestly feel like colorpop is releasing so many collabs/themed things that it’s hard to get excited for any of them anymore, they don’t really give you enough time to enjoy and appreciate the things before releasing something else. It’s probably cliche to say, but I miss makeup releases back in the day, when collabs/themes felt like something special.

Hi Karalee, thanks for this post, it’s very interesting.

With it being my birthday close to Christmas and then with Christmas and New Year, there are a lot of occasions to wear makeup. I don’t ever wear it with my mask as I don’t want to get it dirty. I was really excited about the new UD Cyber palette, but I agree they’re meh and I have enough glitter shadows as well as a glitter lip topper which I’m going to use. I have some glitter singles by Wet ‘n’ Wild that I regret having bought as they are just glitter and Vaseline. I bought 4-Brass, (gold) Groupie (pink) which I have used and Bleached (white/multicoloured) and Binge (purple).
I use them on my browbone for some sparkle and also as body glitters just to use them up. I have used them over my powder eyeshadow but they seemed to melt it off and are patchy when used alone.

I haven’t tried any of the other products you mention and I decided not to get the Cyber palette although it’s a new arrival and I am an UD addict because the shades look too pastel-toned to me and I don’t think I’ll wear those colours ever. One UD palette I asked for this festive season is the Wild West one because the shades seem more my style.

I find UD do the best glitters (Moondust and Party Favor palettes) and also Kiko Glitter Shadow shades are pigmented. I love the look of the UD Ultraviolet but was disappointed at it being purple and neutral, I wanted an all purple palette and that’s hard to find. I have the Revolution Beauty Surprise Egg palette in Unicorn which are purples. I have so much eyeshadow anyway and have been using some up. I have the UD Naked 3, Naked Basics (which I think is discontinued now) as well as the Naked Smokey. I have the AliExpress Ucanbe dupe of Naked Heat and the Kiss Beauty dupe of the Too Faced Bonbons palette. I also have the AliExpress dupe of the Too Faced Gingerbread palette but I don’t like these last two much because the pigment is not great.

Eyeshadow is the makeup product I buy most aside from lipstick.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday & Christmas!
Yes at first glance, the UD Cyber palette looks cool, but then there are only 3 shades that are somewhat interesting. The Wild West palette does look better & I hope you get it for your birthday or Christmas§
The shades of the glitter singles from Wet n Wild sound pretty, but I’m sorry to hear you regret buying them. They don’t sound good if they melt off & are patchy!
I LOVE the Moondust glitters from UD. Yes the Ultraviolet palette from UD is disappointing because there are more neutrals than purple shades. I have quite a few palettes too & I buy the most eyeshadow & lipstick too haha

        Hi Karalee,

I agree with what you’re saying. Thanks for the birthday and Christmas wishes, I hope you have a great Christmas too. I compared the UD Cyber, Ultraviolet and Wild West palette swatches and it turns out I have the same purples, or very very similar ones as the Ultraviolet palette in my Mermaids vs Unicorns palette by Revolution Beauty. The shades in the Wild West palette look similar to those in Revolution Beauty’s Salted Caramel palette which I have but the Wild West one is definitely a palette I want. The Moondust and Party Favor palettes are great but neither are on the UD site anymore. I’m glad I have them but don’t know what to get once they are used up. Any ideas?

That’s great you already have similar shades in other palettes and I hope you get can get the Wild West palette soon!
For alternatives, I know UD sells single Moondust and 24/7 Moondust shades. They are $22 so they would be better to pick up during a sale. I know ColourPop has pressed glitters and they’re only $6. I haven’t personally tried them, but they do have good reviews.
