Easy Buffalo Cauliflower Recipe

This past weekend was the Roskilde Kræmmermarked, which is a large market with a variety of vendors. One of the vendors was Hostile Hot Sauce, a brand of hot sauces made in Denmark. Hostile Hot Sauce has its own Hot Buffalo sauce, and I bought a bottle as buffalo cauliflower is one of my favorite snacks. In this post, I want to share how you can make your own buffalo cauliflower bites.

Ingredients

  • 1 head of cauliflower

  • 3/4 cups of flour

  • 3/4 cups of water

  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon of paprika

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper

  • 1/4 cup of buffalo sauce (I used Hostile Hot Sauce, but Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Sauce is also popular)

Directions

  • Rinse the cauliflower and cut it into bite-sized pieces
  • Combine flour with the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a large bowl
  • Add the water to the flour and mix until there are no clumps of flour
  • Add the cauliflower pieces to the flour batter and stir to coat the pieces
  • Place the cauliflower onto a piece of baking paper
  • Oven Method: Preheat the oven to 450°F / 230°C and bake the cauliflower for 10 minutes. Air Fryer Method: Cook the cauliflower for 10 minutes at 400°F / 200°C
  • Brush the cauliflower pieces with the buffalo sauce and return them to the oven or air fryer
  • Oven Method: Bake the cauliflower for an additional 10 minutes at 450°F / 230°C. Air Fryer Method: Cook the cauliflower for an additional 5 minutes at 400°F / 200°C
  • After the cauliflower has finished cooking, you can add more buffalo sauce to the cauliflower, or you can eat them as is with a dip, sides, or as part of a larger meal

Frequently Asked Questions

What does buffalo cauliflower taste like?

Buffalo sauce is known for being tangy, spicy, and creamy, therefore, the cauliflower will taste spicy. The flavor is comparable to buffalo chicken wings, but of course, without the meat.

Can you make the recipe gluten-free?

Yes, you can opt for a gluten-free flour, or you can make the cauliflower without the flour batter.

Can you substitute the buffalo sauce?

Yes, you can. If you are not a fan of buffalo sauce or spicy sauces in general, you can use a barbecue, honey garlic, honey mustard, or sesame sauce, or any other sauce you would like to coat the cauliflower in.

What dips and sides can you pair with the cauliflower?

You can serve the cauliflower with a variety of dipping sauces such as ranch, blue cheese, garlic, creme fraiche, tzatziki, and hummus. As far as sides, you can enjoy the cauliflower with carrot, cucumber, and celery sticks. You can also eat the cauliflower with fries, sweet potato fries, or onion rings.

What meals can you use the buffalo cauliflower for?

If you want to use the cauliflower pieces as part of a larger meal, you can add them to salads, wraps, sandwiches, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, and pizza, or serve them with rice or pasta

How long does the cauliflower last?

The cauliflower will last around 2-3 days in the fridge in an airtight container.

Can you freeze the baked cauliflower?

I would not recommend freezing the cauliflower as it can become soggy from the batter and sauce.

These sound delicious! I’ve made them before with Franks Hot Sauce, but I bet these are amazing too. We’re not vegetarian, but I have to say having cauliflower instead of wings is actually really lovely. They’re filling, but light at the same time.

They are delicious! I’ve had the cauliflower with Frank’s RedHot Sauce years ago, but it’s hard to find in Denmark.
I agree it is a nice alternative to wings!

I’ve never tried Buffalo Cauliflower but I adore Wagamama’s Bang Bang Cauliflower, which I think is very similar to this. This looks so easy to make, and bonus points that you can do it quickly in the air fryer too – bookmarked to try this weekend, thank you, Karalee!
