12 Cozy Hobbies to Try

Updated on February 19th, 2026

If you are looking for a new activity to do during your downtime, then this post is for you as I will be sharing 12 cozy hobbies I like doing during my free time.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission if you make a purchase through my links, but there is no extra cost to you.

What are Cozy Hobbies?

Cozy hobbies are activities you can do during your leisure time that do not involve scrolling through social media or watching TV. Furthermore, the activities are relaxing and you can do them in the comfort of your home. Also, everyone has different interests and activities they would like to do. The hobbies included in this list are ones I personally enjoy.

12 Cozy Hobbies to Try

#1 Gaming

Gaming is one of my favorite hobbies, and it is nice to relax after a long day with a stress-free game. There are a plethora of cozy games to play, from life simulation and farming games to puzzle games and even mobile games. If you are looking for a new game to play, I have ranked all the cozy games I played in 2025

#2 Reading

Over the years, I have found my love for reading again. For 2025, I have made it a goal of mine to find time to sit down and read every day. I do not have a set time limit, as some days I may only have time to read a chapter or two, while usually on the weekends I have more time to read. If you want to read more this year, I have shared a post on how to read more books. Furthermore, a few books I would recommend are The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, Paper Towns by John Green, and Heartstopper Volume 5 by Alice Oseman. Along with sitting down to read, I have also been listening to audiobooks while doing chores such as cooking and cleaning. Listening to audiobooks is another great way to enjoy the hobby.

#3 Puzzles

I enjoy solving logic puzzles, and Murdle: Volume 1 by G. T. Karber is a fun book to do a few puzzles in every now and then. For the logic puzzles, you figure out who did it with what weapon and where, using the clues provided. I also have a book of sudoku puzzles that I occasionally do, and you can find books for crossword puzzles, word searches, cryptograms, nonograms, and more. Furthermore, you can complete jigsaw puzzles.

#4 Coloring

Coloring as an adult has numerous mental health benefits, including promoting mindfulness and reducing stress, which makes it perfect for a cozy hobby. I recently purchased The Heartstopper Coloring Book by Alice Oseman, and I love it! There are tons of coloring books out there, from nature and animals to pop culture-themed ones. You can also download a free app like Happy Color to color on your phone or tablet.

#5 Painting

I like painting, but it is not a hobby I do as often as some others on this list. My favorite medium is acrylic and watercolor. I have done various acrylic paintings on canvas, and I have a watercolor pad as well. I also have a postcard watercolor book from Panduro, which is a hobby store in Denmark. The postcards have a printed design and colors on the side to use, which is great if you do not have a separate watercolor palette or paints. If painting is not for you, you can also draw.

#6 Cooking

I like cooking and trying new recipes. On my blog, I have shared various Danish recipes. In Denmark, a lot of recipes are meat-based. However, I am a vegetarian, and I have had fun making my own vegetarian Danish recipes. Also, I have been enjoying The Unofficial Sims Cookbook by Taylor O’Halloran. I have made numerous recipes based on the Sims games, including the Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich, Autumn Salad, Breadsticks, and Baked Chocolate Mousse. Lastly, I recommend the Tasty app. Tasty has a lot of easy and delicious recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and dessert.

#7 Baking

Along with cooking, I also love baking. One of my favorite cookbooks is Baking Yesteryear by B. Dylan Hollis. The cookbook has 101 recipes from the 1900s to the 1980s. The recipes are easy to follow, and some of the recipes I have tried and would recommend are the Carrot Pie from the 1910s, Baked Apples from the 1930s, Avocado Pie from the 1960s, and Banana Split Bars from the 1980s.

#8 LEGO

I also enjoy putting together LEGO sets. My favorite collection is Botanicals because they are fun to put together and look great when displayed. I have the Orchid and Bonsai Tree in my bedroom, the Wildflower Bouquet and Bouquet of Roses in the living room, and I recently purchased the Tiny Plants set. Along with the Botanicals sets, I also love the Animal Crossing collection. I have all the sets, and I have displayed the ones I have built on a shelf in the living room.

#9 Soap Making

A few years ago, I got into Melt and Pour Soap Making. Melt and pour is easy to do as you simply melt the soap base, add your colors and fragrances, and then pour the melted soap into a mold and let it sit. Once set, you can use the soaps or give them as gifts. I have made soap donuts, succulents, and macarons, and soap making is a fun and practical hobby.

Some melt and pour soap making supplies including a silicone macaron soap mold, green and pink soap dyes, and a chocolate soap fragrance

#10 Origami

Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding. Typically, you use square sheets of paper and fold them to make animals, flowers, stars, hearts, and other shapes. I bought a book of patterned origami paper from Søsterene Grene, and you can find origami paper at hobby stores and even on Bookshop. I like making origami cranes as the steps were easy enough to learn, and the cranes look nice as decor.

#11 Self-Care

Self-care is the process of making time to look after yourself. There are numerous benefits of self-care, including reducing stress, increasing energy, and improving happiness. There are many ways you can take care of yourself, whether it is having a weekly pamper night, painting your nails, working through a self-love journal, going for a walk in nature, or doing one of these hobbies.

#12 Writing

Lastly, I like writing. When I was younger, I wrote short stories and journaled. Now, I use my passion for writing on blogging. I love sharing my thoughts on a variety of topics. If you are interested in writing, you can start a journal, write poems, stories, and more.

What are your favorite cozy hobbies?

I really appreciate you highlighting hobbies that don’t involve scrolling through social media! It’s so hard to disconnect sometimes. Any tips for resisting the urge to reach for your phone when you’re trying to relax with one of these cozy activities?

You’re welcome! As far as tips, I recommend turning off notifications on your phone so you’re not tempted to check it. You can also keep your phone in a different room so you can focus on the activity. For example, if you are reading in the living room or painting at the dining table, you can keep your phone in the kitchen.

      Reading and coloring are fantastic!
There are definitely games you can sink hours and hours into, but it can be fun. I’ve been gaming since I was a kid, and it is a hobby I enjoy-

I love these! They are such great ideas, especially when it’s still dark and cold outside and we might not be feeling ready to embrace the outdoors as much.
I’ve not heard of the lego botanicals, and they look super cute!

You’re welcome! Those are all wonderful hobbies! I do recommend trying out melt and pour soup making! It is fairly easy to do, and it is not dangerous like cold process soap making. With cold process soap, you are mixing lye and oils together, but with melt and pour that part is already done for you.

Love these! I’m all for cosy nights so these types of things are right up my street. I’ve certainly been reading a lot more recently and enjoying being away from a screen. I’ve seen lots of people colouring recently. I’d like to get more into that too.

Great post! I love the idea of “cozy” hobbies and the designation that they exist without simultaneous scrolling. That seems harder and harder lately, but worth it. I love reading as a core cozy hobby, and would love to incorporate something else that uses my hands intentionally, like knitting or crocheting. My husband really wants to get into leather working, which I think fits the bill too. Thank you for sharing!
