International Bedtime Stories from History by Lena H. Evans

International Bedtime Stories from History features 25 bedtime stories that introduce children to the extraordinary lives of real people from around the world, and I received a digital copy from the author. There are stories on Nelson Mandela and Siddhartha Gautama to Sitting Bull and Marie Curie that spark children’s curiosity and imagination while they drift off to sleep.

Each story features a colorful illustration and begins with “Once upon a time” and ends with a valuable lesson. The stories also use child-friendly language to explore the lives of the individuals and each story can be read within 5 minutes. International Bedtime Stories from History is $9.99 for paperback and $3.99 for Kindle, and it would be perfect to incorporate into a bedtime routine. Sitting on a Rock by Gary L. Brinderson

Sitting on a Rock is a collection of 99 poems, and I received a digital copy from PR by the Book. The poems cover themes including kindness, love, affirmations, and self-journey, and they would be perfect for parents and older teens as the poems can relate to various stages and states of life. The poems often use repetition, formatting, and positive messages to teach that life’s answers can be found within. Sitting on a Rock is $14.34 for paperback, $23.06 for hardcover, $1.99 for Kindle, and $5.45 for Audiobook. The collection of poems would make a lovely Christmas gift for those who enjoy reading poetry.

Board Games

Game nights are a great way to spend time as a family. For this section, I wanted to recommend 3 board games I currently play with my family, and all the games are suitable for players aged 8+.

• Clue/Cluedo – Clue is a classic board game that can be played by 2-6 players. In the game, 6 guests are invited to a mansion, but the host has been murdered. It is up to the players to figure out who is responsible, what weapon they used, and in which place the crime took place as they make their way around the mansion.
• The Game of Life – The Game of Life is another board game I recommend that is suitable for 2-4 players. Players take turns spinning the wheel and moving their cars along the gameboard as they make their way to Retirement. Players make various decisions, from going to university or immediately starting a career to expanding their family. They can also land on special spaces to buy a house, change careers, or draw an Action card that can be beneficial or detrimental. The player with the most money at the end of the game wins.
• Ticket to Ride Europe – The last board game I recommend is Ticket to Ride Europe, which is good for 2-5 players. Ticket to Ride Europe is easy to learn, and players collect train cards that they then use to build railway routes that connect various cities in Europe. Players earn points by completing Destination Tickets where they build specific routes and by having the longest continuous railway, and the player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Co-Op Video Games

Along with board games, playing co-op video games is another way families can spend game night together. Here are several recommendations for Nintendo Switch games that up to four players can play.

• Mario Golf: Super Rush – In Mario Golf: Super Rush, players choose from various Super Mario characters, and each character has their own special abilities. Players then choose from one of 11 golf courses. Players will then try to complete each hole in the fewest number of strokes, and the player who completes the course with the lowest total number of strokes wins.
• Super Mario Bros. Wonder – In the game, Mario and his friends have been invited to visit the Flower Kingdom. However, Bowser has transformed into a flying castle and is causing chaos, and it is up to the heroes to save the kingdom. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a platformer, and players have to work together to complete the stages. During the stages, players can also find different power-ups, including one that turns them into elephants!
• Super Mario Party Jamboree – Super Mario Party Jamboree is the latest Mario Party game, and it is a lot of fun. Players choose a board and roll the dice while trying to collect stars. Depending on the space the player lands on, different things can happen, from earning or losing coins, receiving an item or having to face Bowser. After each round, all the players play a mini-game, and there are over 110 different mini-games!

Thoughtful Gifts for Family Members

Pocket Perfume

Pocket Perfume is a travel-friendly Eau de Parfum made in Dubai. GlassesShop Eyeglasses and Sunglasses

I was kindly gifted two pairs of glasses from GlasssesShop to feature in this gift guide for families. GlassesShop was founded in Michigan in 2004, and they sell numerous styles of eyeglasses including kid’s eyeglasses, sunglasses, and blue light glasses at affordable prices. They also ship worldwide from the US. Since I am near-sighted, I chose the Isaiah Square Blue Eyeglasses. Then I opted for the Chamomile Round Black Sunglasses without a prescription, but all the sunglasses can be made with a prescription. Both the eyeglasses and sunglasses came in their own case and with a microfiber cloth, which is great for keeping them safe and for cleaning. If anyone in your family needs a new pair of prescription eyeglasses or sunglasses, GlassesShop would be great for a practical gift.

Isaiah Square Blue Eyeglasses

For everyday glasses, I went with the Isaiah Square Blue Eyeglasses. When you are deciding on glasses, GlassesShop does have a face shape detector where you upload a photo and it will determine which styles of frames suit your face shape. The glasses frame is available in 4 colors and I chose blue because I love the black square frame with the blue interior. The frames are $19.95 and from there, you can choose the usage including Single Vision, Bifocal & Progression, Reading, or Non-Prescription. With Single, Bifocal, and Reading usage, you can either manually enter your prescription or upload it for convenience. You then choose the type of lens from Clear Lens, Transitions & Photochromic, Sunglasses, or Blue Block Lenses. The type of lens you choose will affect the price, and the Clear Lens is an additional $19.85 for a total of $39.80. The frames are lightweight and comfortable to wear. Since the glasses are made with my prescription, I can wear them when I am working on the computer or if I am out and about.

Chamomile Round Black Sunglasses

Next, I chose the Chamomile Round Sunglasses because I like the round minimalistic frame. There are 5 different colors of frames to choose from, and I chose black because I thought it would be more versatile. The frame is $26.95, and just like the eyeglasses, you can select your usage and lens type. For lens type, you have the choice of Basic Tint, Gradient Tint, Mirrored Lens, or Polarized. I opted for the non-prescription usage with the Basic Tint. For the Basic Tint, you can choose the tint strength and color. I chose the Dark 80% in Blue as my favorite color is blue and I never owned blue-tinted sunglasses. The lens was an additional $29.80 and the total came to $56.75. The sunglasses are also lightweight and comfortable to wear, and I absolutely love the blue tint!

Antique Bracelets

Carus Jewellery has a curated collection of antique and vintage jewellery that would make for a lovely present. They sell jewellery from the Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Retro, Mid-Century, and Vintage periods. They currently have bracelets in gold or silver metals along with jade, amber, and abalone shell. Furthermore, some of the bracelets feature gemstones including amethyst, aquamarine, and peridot. The bracelets vary in price to fit your budget, and they offer worldwide shipping. An antique bracelet from Carus Jewellery would make a unique gift and be cherished for the years to come.

Lookalikey Personalised Christmas Card

The last suggestion I have is for a personalised Christmas card from Lookalikey, which I was gifted. Lookalikey offers a variety of face swap greetings cards including Christmas cards.
