I am a huge fan of cozy games. However, most games cost anywhere between $5 to $60, which may not be in the budget for everyone. In this post, I want to highlight 15+ free cozy games you can play on PC. I included a mix of short cozy games, longer games, and games that are more open-ended in playtime.
What are Cozy Games?
Cozy games are simply games you play to relax. They often do not include combat or high-stress situations. There are many different genres of cozy games, from farming and life simulation to puzzle and story-based games. This post will highlight 15+ free cozy games in a variety of genres.
15+ Free Cozy Games on PC
#1 Mahjong 4 Friends
Mahjong 4 Friends is a relaxing multiplayer version of the classic tile game that lets you play Mahjong with friends online. Instead of the single-player tile-matching style many people know, this version focuses on the traditional strategy game where players build hands, watch opponents’ moves, and think a few steps ahead. It is cozy because the pace is calm and social, making it perfect for a relaxed gaming session with friends. If you enjoy thoughtful games that combine strategy and conversation, you can try it here: Mahjong 4 Friends.
#2 Sudoku
Sudoku is a timeless logic puzzle game that is perfect for relaxing your brain while still giving it a gentle workout. Whether you are playing on your browser, solving printable puzzles, or using a cozy desktop app, Sudoku is one of the most peaceful and satisfying games out there. It is perfect for winding down, sipping tea, and challenging yourself without any stress. Try a relaxing game of Sudoku here.

#3 An Arcade Full of Cats
In An Arcade Full of Cats, Leo and Fofiño are stuck in the past and need 5 batteries to get back to the present. You have to complete 5 levels from the 1980s to the 2000s, where you find all the hidden cats. Each level has an arcade machine with more hidden objects to find. Once you complete the arcade machine, you get one battery. After you have all 5 batteries, you can watch the end of the story. There is around an hour of gameplay, and An Arcade Full of Cats is a fun hidden object game. Also, A Park Full of Cats has now released, and it is free-to-play. Instead of an arcade, A Park Full of Cats is set at a theme park where you find hidden cats.

#4 Alpaca Stacka
Alpaca Stack is a short game with only around 10 minutes of gameplay. In Alpaca Stacka, you play as an alpaca and have to find 5 chicks around the island. The chicks are not difficult to find, and it is a cute game to play when you just want a quick game.

#5 Coloring Pixels
Coloring Pixels is a free-to-play color-by-number game. There are over 250 images available in the base game, and there is paid DLC with even more images. You can spend numerous hours playing Coloring Pixels, and there is a variety of small images, like a simple heart, to complex images like a sunset scene. Once you have completed an image, the game shows a time-lapse, which is satisfying to watch. If you like coloring, I recommend checking out Coloring Pixels.

#6 Doronko Wanko
I mentioned Doronko Wanko in my review of the cozy games I played so far in 2024. In Doronko Wanko, you play as an adorable Pomeranian with the goal of making the house as dirty as possible and finding all 12 hidden paintings. As you do more damage to the house, you unlock gifts and accessories. There are also badges to complete in the game that add replayability, and one playthrough lasts around 40 minutes. If you want to cause chaos as a dog, Doronko Wanko is the game for you.

#7 Emily is Away
Emily is Away is an interactive story game. The game is set in the early 2000s and follows the protagonist’s relationship with Emily over the course of 5 years from the senior year of high school to the senior year of college. The game is presented in an instant messaging format similar to AOL Instant Messenger, and you have choices you can make throughout the game. There are sequels to Emily is Away, but they are not free-to-play. However, Emily is Away is an interesting story-rich game that takes around an hour to play.

#8 Every Letter
Every Letter is another game I previously mentioned in my review of cozy games I played in 2023. In the game, you fulfill requests by typing out letters. You can choose from 3 requests at a time and pick the one you want to write. Since the game is intended to feel like you are typing on a typewriter, there is no backspace if you make a mistake. Therefore, you just have to go with the flow. I adored the story mode and writing the letter to myself at the end. Every Letter has over an hour of gameplay, especially if you play the endless mode, where you write letters for as long as you want.

#9 Little Postman
Little Postman is a puzzle game with 9 levels. In the game, you have to rotate the pieces of the map to reach the endpoint and deliver the letter. As the levels progress, they get trickier and take more time to figure out. The playtime will depend on how quickly it takes you to solve the puzzles, and for me, it took around 45 minutes to finish all 9 levels.

#10 Marie’s Room
In Marie’s Room, you play as her former classmate, Kelsey, and explore Marie’s room to figure out what happened to her years earlier. The game is voice-acted, which I appreciate, and there are numerous objects to interact with and journal entries to find. There are also a couple of puzzles to solve, and the game takes around 45 minutes to play.

#11 Mirth Melody
Mirth Melody is a short rhythm game where you play as Dodo the Duck. There are 3 songs to play on casual or pro difficulty level, and there are Steam achievements for completing each song with at least 80% accuracy. The game takes around 15 minutes to play, and it is a fun, quick game if you enjoy rhythm games.

#12 Palia
Palia is a multiplayer game where you can craft, cook, fish, and farm with friends as you discover an adventure filled with unique characters and a mystery to solve. However, Palia can be played without interacting with other players, as you have your own home plot and quests to complete. When you start Palia, you create your own character, and I think the customization options are great. Then you do the beginning quests, which focus on learning the controls and the basics like crafting, farming, fishing, bug catching, and hunting.
Outside of your home plot, you can explore the world where you interact with NPCs and see other players. There are loading screens between your home plot and different parts of the world, but they are usually not long, and the longest queue I had was with 5 other players. I have only played a few hours of Palia, and I can see myself playing more. Plus, the potential playtime in Palia is open-ended.

#13 Resonance of the Ocean
Resonance of the Ocean is a short game where you play over the course of 4 days and have to find objects to match the sound you hear across the sea. Each day adds more objects to find, as well as combining objects to increase the difficulty. The game takes around 15 minutes to play, and it is a nice little game.

#14 The Sims 4
In 2022, The Sims 4 base game became free to play on all platforms. In The Sims 4, you create your own sim, build them a house, take care of their needs, and level up their career and skills. You can also play with premade sims and homes. There are countless hours of potential gameplay in The Sims 4, and I have ranked The Sims 4 Expansion Packs and The Sims 4 Stuff Packs if you do want to expand the base game with any of the paid DLC.

#15 Sky: Children of the Light
Sky: Children of the Light is an MMO where you explore different realms and create memories with other players. The game can be played solo, but it is helpful to have friends, especially when completing Eden and during the events. I have not completed the main story yet, but I have read that it takes around 5 hours to complete. However, the game itself is open-ended. You first begin with a tutorial to learn the controls, and then you go through the beginning stages with other players. From there, you are given the goal to awaken the elders in the 7 realms. There are also events throughout the year, side quests, and more to explore after the main story.

#16 Tukoni: Prologue
Tukoni: Prologue is the prologue for Tukoni: Forest Keepers, which will be released in 2025. The prologue is a point-and-click puzzle game based on the books by Ukrainian artist Oksana Bula. In the game, you play as the forest spirit Tukoni and meet unique characters, solve puzzles, craft items, and explore a magical world. The prologue takes around 20 minutes to play, and even though there is no dialogue, it is easy to follow along with what to do next. I also love the art style and figuring out the different puzzles.

#17 What Never Was
The last of the free cozy games I want to mention is What Never Was. What Never Was is a short 30-minute game where you solve puzzles in the attic and figure out the secrets Sarah’s grandpa hid. The game is fully voice-acted, which I liked, and the puzzles were not too difficult to figure out. What Never Was is a good game if you like exploring and solving some puzzles.

In addition to the free and warm games recommended above, if you want to further enhance the atmosphere when playing games on your computer, you might as well use Custom Neon Signs.
Custom neon signs can be customized according to game elements, such as the stars in Sky: Children of the Light and the cat outlines in Cat Arcade. Placed next to the monitor or on the desktop, it can inject a sense of theme into the space.

I was obsessed with The Sims 2 when I was younger but never got onto playing The Sims 4. This post makes me want to get back into playing The Sims again! I also like the sound of Emily is Away – it sounds like such a different game and really intriguing. Thanks for sharing these games!
You should definitely try out The Sims 4 and you don’t have anything to lose because the base game is free!
Emily is Away is such an interesting and unique game!
What a great list of cozy games! There’s not one game on here that I wouldn’t enjoy. Thanks for sharing!

I have heard of Sims but I never played it. I always thought that it looked fun. I have never heard of these other games, but I would not mind playing most of them. Thank you for sharing.
The Sims is fun because there are a lot of different ways to play from making your own sims to building homes and community lots or focusing on the gameplay and controlling the lives of your sims.
You’re welcome!
These sound like great cosy PC games! I’d love to try the Sims game again! x

The Sims is a lot of fun and the base game is free, so you can’t go wrong with playing it!
These PC games sound cool. They are good for autumn season. Thank you for sharing.
I agree they’re perfect for the cooler weather when you want to be cozy indoors. You’re welcome!
So many really great cozy games to try out! I love the sound of Marie’s Room and What Never Was and will see if I can try them out. They are the types of games I typically enjoy whiling some time away on!
Thanks! Marie’s Room and What Never Was are good exploration games with some puzzles to solve, so I do recommend them. Also, they’re both not that long (30-45 minutes) so you don’t have to devote a lot of time play through them.
I don’t think I really knew what a cosy game was, so this was a revelation. Some of these, especially An Arcade Of Cats, sound incredibly cute!
For a moment, I thought Emily Is Away was set in the future, and then I remembered we’re actually in 2024 now so the early 2000s is well behind us!
Some of these suggestions sound really intriguing too. I’m not sure which one to start with, but I can definitely see myself cosying up to play on a dark winters day!
Thank you for sharing!
Cozy games have been trending lately, but they have always been games I’ve been drawn to since I was a kid. I’ve never been into action games, and I would much rather play simulation or puzzle games! An Arcade Full of Cats is a fun and cute puzzle game!
Haha yes, the early 2000s were some time ago! I hope you find a game or two to enjoy and you’re welcome!
