Oden’s Eye Makeup Brand Review

I recently discovered a makeup brand that piqued my interest. The brand Oden’s Eye is inspired by Norse mythology and I wanted to try some of their makeup. Luckily earlier this year they had a mystery box with of their 4 products. Since the items are still available to purchase on their website, I wanted to review them here.

Oden’s Eye is a cruelty-free makeup brand based in Sweden, and they offer international shipping. Their powder products are vegan, but their lipsticks contain beeswax. As I mentioned, their brand is inspired by Norse mythology, and Oden (more commonly spelled Odin) is the main god and father of the other gods and he gave up one of his eyes to gain knowledge of all things. I do like the name Oden’s Eye because they are a makeup brand that sells eyeshadow palettes and the name paves the way to have more products inspired by Norse mythology.

Oden Eye’s offered two mystery boxes, and I purchased the smaller one which had 4 items for $45. The 4 items included the Alva Eyeshadow Palette, the Alva 2 Mini Ocean Palette, the Alva Kiss of a Fairy Lipstick in Fig Jam, and the Norn’s Mesmerizer Highlighter in Spring of Life.

Alva Eyeshadow Palette

The Alva Eyeshadow Palette is a pink-themed palette with pops of yellow. The shades are practical for everyday use, and they are also pretty. As far as the name, Alva is a fairy or elf in Norse mythology. There are alva that can bring bad luck and cause disease in humans and there are others that can be helpful and heal humans.

The Alva palette is inspired by the garden of the elves, and it contains 16 shades including 6 mattes, 6 diamond glitters, 2 chunky glitters, and 2 metallics. The 16 shades are:

• Jasmine: light beige with a matte finish
• Baby’s Breath: peach with a green diamond glitter finish
• Coffee Bean: brown with a gold glitter finish
• Daisy: yellow with a matte finish
• Carnation: peach with a silver diamond glitter finish
• Lotus: mauve with a matte finish
• Cherry Blossom: dark pink with a metallic finish
• Sunflower: dark yellow with a metallic finish
• Dandelion: peach with a blue diamond glitter finish
• Morning-Glory: chestnut with a matte finish
• Dahlia: pink with a diamond glitter finish
• Golden Tulipa: light gold with a diamond glitter finish
• Camellia: pink with a matte finish
• Lilac: light purple with a diamond glitter finish
• Peony: brown with a matte finish
• Cosmos: bronze with a glitter finish

I tend to go for more colorful palettes as I am not the biggest fan of neutral shades, so I do like that the palette is pink-themed with some neutrals, and I love the yellow shades. However, I do find that Baby’s Breath, Carnation, and Dandelion are quite similar in shade, but Baby’s Breath has green reflects, Carnation has silver reflects, and Dandelion has blue reflects. I do wish they were more varied in shades as it is hard to tell them apart unless you look for the reflects.

Besides that, I do like the mix of matte and shimmer shades, and I especially LOVE the glitter and metallic shades. Those shades are pigmented, and they glide on the skin. However, the mattes tend to be sheerer, and I found they need at least 2 layers. There is some fallout in the pan, but no noticeable fallout on the face. With eyeshadow primer, the shades last all day without fading, creasing, or smudging. The palette also contains a large circle mirror, which is great for traveling, and I love the exterior packaging with the holographic fairy and etched flowers. The palette is $31.90 or almost $2 per shade, which is not bad a price for an eyeshadow palette.

Alva 2 Mini Ocean Palette

The Alva 2 Mini Palette is inspired by the ocean and it has 6 blue and orange shades that can be used in separate looks or together. The 6 shades have different finishes including 1 matte, 1 matte with sequins, 2 diamond glitters, and 2 metallics. The 6 shades are:

• Aqua: light blue with a matte finish
• Under the Sea: dark blue with a metallic finish
• Blue Star: aqua with a diamond glitter finish
• Jellyfish: silver with a diamond glitter finish
• Starfish: dark orange with a matte and gold sequin finish
• Golden Sand: brown with a metallic finish

As I mentioned above, I love colorful palettes, so I love the blue and orange theme of this palette. The 6 shades are all different, so there are no similar shades like in the Alva palette. I also do like the mix of matte and shimmer shades, but the matte shade is sheerer than the other shimmer shades. The shades have a little fallout in the pan, but not really any fallout on the face. With eyeshadow primer, the shades last all day without fading, creasing, or smudging.

Also, the palette has a good-sized mirror, and I love the ocean elf figure and sea creatures on the exterior packaging. The palette is $20.90 or around $3.50 per shade, which I think is a bit expensive considering you can get 16 shades for $31.90, and the pan sizes in both palettes are similar with the exception of the split-pan shades in the mini palette.

Alva Kiss of a Fairy Lipstick in Fig Jam

The Alva Kiss of a Fairy Lipsticks are matte lipsticks that are inspired by the fruits found in the garden of the elves. There are 3 shades including Fig Jam, Red Cherry, and Light Peach. I received the Fig Jam shade, which is a brown-red shade with a matte finish.

The lipstick applies easily, and it is comfortable on the lips without being drying. Since it is a matte lipstick, it is not transfer-proof, but the lipstick does leave a tint even after eating and drinking. I also like the packaging because it is sleek with the Oden’s Eye design, and there is a good amount of lipstick in the tube. The lipsticks are $16.90, which I do find a little high, but it is a good quality lipstick.

Norn’s Mesmerizer Highlighter in Spring of Life

The last product I received is the Norn’s Mesmerizer Highlighter. In Norse mythology, the three Norn sisters weave and control the web of fate. The highlighters come in 3 shades that represent their treasures including Web of Destiny, Spring of Life, and Veil of Future. I received the Spring of Life shade, which is a blue and silver shade that combines into a gorgeous light blue shade with a shimmer finish.

I think the highlighter works well with the Alva 2 Mini Palette as both have blue shades, but I do not think the highlighter is practical for everyday use and even though I do like colorful shades, I will not always use a blue highlighter. The highlighter has great pigment, and I did not notice any fallout. Also, the highlighter lasts all day when using a primer and setting spray. The highlighter has a unique pattern that resembles water strings, which fits the Norn theme, and I love the exterior packaging with the Norn sister. Also, the highlighter has a mirror, and it is $23.90, which I think is a fine price for a highlighter.

Here is a quick makeup look I did using the Lotus, Camellia, Peony, Dahlia, and Golden Tulipa shades from the Alva Palette, the Aqua, Under the Sea, Golden Sand, Blue Star, and Jellyfish shades from the Alva 2 Mini Palette, the Norn’s Highlighter, and the Alva Kiss of a Fairy Lipstick.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I am impressed by the makeup I received in the Oden’s Eye mystery box. The eyeshadow palettes are good quality, and one of my only issues is with the matte shades that tend to be sheerer. The highlighter is gorgeous, but it is not the most practical for everyday use. However, the lipstick is a great matte lipstick. I definitely want to try more of their makeup! They recently released an eyeliner collection, and I would love to try their blushers.
