My Anti-Wish List

Updated on April 17th, 2023

My daughter has been sick so I have not been able to write posts like I had planned, but today I wanted to share my anti-wish list for new makeup releases I would not buy.

zmorpheMorphe 35T Dope Taupe Eyeshadow Palette: I have been wanting to buy a Morphe palette for a while now, but I would definitely not get this one. I think this palette should be given the award for the most boring palette ever because even though there are 35 shades, a lot of them look the same. The palette is affordable though so if you want a ton of brown and grey shades, then this is perfect for you.

$23 at Ulta

znyx.jpg

NYX Powder Puff Lippie Lip Cream: I have the Too Faced Melted Lipstick which has a cushion applicator, and I felt like the cushion absorbed a lot of product. I think this lipstick will have the same problem and I doubt it will be long-lasting and transfer-proof. Also, none of the 8 shades seem appealing to me, so I will pass on trying these.

$8.50 at NYX

ztartepalettecropTarte Foil Finger Paints Shadow Palette: This palette includes only 5 shades. 3 of the shades have a foil finish and the split pan has a sparkling finish. This palette is supposed to have shades that are so soft and pigmented that you can use your fingers. I do not like using my fingers to apply makeup (even eye shadow), so I definitely do not want this palette. I also think this palette is really expensive for 3 full-size shades and 2 shades in a split pan.

$39 at Tarte

ztartefoundation.jpgTarte Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation: I love the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, but I think this Hydrating Foundation would be too hydrating for my oily skin and I do not like dewy finishes. I do like that the foundation is full-coverage, but I would like to try the Tarte Shape Tape Matte Foundation instead.

$39 at Tarte

Too Faced Life’s a Festival Collection: First of all, I do not mind the unicorn trend, but I am not a fan of highlighting since I have oily skin. All of the products in this collection have some form of shimmer in it to create a holographic effect. Besides the Rainbow Strobe Highlighter and the Unicorn Horn Highlighting Stick, the Unicorn Tears Bronzer is a bronzer that it is combined with a highlighter and I despise bronzers with a shimmer finish. Even the Festival Refresh Spray which is a setting and refreshing spray has opalescent pearls in it. The collection also includes the Life’s a Festival Eye Shadow Palette, 4 La Creme Mystical Lipsticks, and 4 Magic Crystal Lip Toppers, but I am going to steer clear of this collection because I would rather not look like an oily disco ball.

$19 – $42 at Too Faced

zurban.jpg

Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat Eyeshadow Palette: This palette includes 6 shades. 5 have a matte finish while the other has a shimmer finish. I do not want this palette because I feel like I would only be able to create 1 maybe 2 looks with it. I also do not think this palette is worth the price and I would prefer to get the full-size one instead.

$29 (available on the 22nd)

zwetWet N Wild Goth-O-Graphic Collection: This collection is supposed to be the opposite of the unicorn trend, but all the products are pastel-hued and holographic (just like the unicorn trend). I would not wear any of these products because like with the Too Faced Life’s a Festival Collection, I do not want to look like a disco ball. However, you can buy the complete collection which includes the MegaGlo Loose Highlighting Powder, 4 MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Metallic Lipsticks, the MegaGlo Highlighting Stick, 2 MegaGlo Highlighting Powders, 3 MegaLiner Metallic Liquid Eyeliner, and 4 MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Liquid Eyeshadows for $40.

$39.99 at Wet n Wild

I love your site! I also think the Morphe 35T is boring! I have the 35F and of of course the Jaclyn Hill which is amazing! <3 Following!

Haha! This gave me a bit of a chuckle. I keep my makeup pretty basic as a rule. I use a tinted moisturizer, a little bit of shadow, mascara and lip color. (Although I’ve recently discovered that I love using a nice strong red when the mood hits!)
Seems like you don’t like either the underwhelming neutrals or the fantasy like pastels. Honestly I’m mostly perplexed by the unicorn fad, everything seems to be about unicorns nowadays. It’s always seemed just a little weird, especially all the things joking about unicorn poop! (I saw a tool for frosting cupcakes which looked like a unicorn pooping the frosting… eww.) So not my thing. (Good thing I have boys I guess.)

During the week if I wear makeup I keep it simple too with powder foundation, mascara & lip color. On the weekends I go all out with liquid foundation, eye shadow & blush so I want something that pops!
A unicorn pooping frosting? That’s weird! My daughter who’s 2 likes unicorns but that’s b/c she thinks they’re ponies/horsies. Other than that I don’t understand the unicorn fad either & everything from makeup to clothing to food & drinks are unicorn themed!

Ohhhh I like the idea of an anti wish list, fab! I tend to wait a while when new products come out, let all the hype and sales pitches go down! I do like the look of the petite naked heat though……

    • Karalee says

      February 22, 2018 at 6:19 am

I wait too b/c the first batch tends to have some problems that get fixed later on (like eye shadow not being pressed properly or lip products with a bad brush). The petite palette looks nice, but I think it’s a better value to get the full size & I would be able to create a lot more look with it too!

That Morphe palette makes me cringe so hard, Iโ€™m not sure why thatโ€™s even a thing!?!?! Plenty of their palettes have a fair share of enough taupe colors. I feel like this was a horrible decision on their part. As for the petite heatโ€ฆI wanted the full size one, but Urban Decay knows what theyโ€™re doing in making a mini version for yet another naked palette, for nearly the same price as the full size one. Also, low key cannot wait for this whole holographic trend to end!

    • Karalee says

      February 21, 2018 at 6:08 am

I agree the Morphe palette was a horrible decision! There’s also no light shades & it’s all the same brown/grey shades!
The full size Naked Heat looks gorgeous, but the mini not so much. I understand wanting a mini palette, but it’s a better value to just get the full size!
I don’t mind the holographic trend b/c it’s less products I feel compelled to buy lol. It would be nice if it did end though b/c so many brands have done a unicorn collection it’s ridiculous!

I hope your daughter is better now. I do highlight, but I don’t get the whole thing with unicorns!

Thank you! She’s doing much better now & was able to go back to daycare today ๐Ÿ˜Š
I feel like every makeup brand has done a unicorn/holographic collection & at this point it seems ridiculous, but for me it’s less makeup I feel compelled to buy lol

Iโ€™ve not read and anti-wish list before but love this idea! Youโ€™re always being recommended things by people, but knowing what to steer clear of is really useful too!

    • Karalee says

      February 21, 2018 at 2:14 pm

I agree! I like reading about what products people love, but it’s also nice to know what products they wouldn’t recommend! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks for the heads up on what not to buy! I find this so useful as I have no time to browse whilst shopping at the moment (I am always joined by a toddler who hates to shop). Recommendations are always highly appreciated. I agree with you and so many of the other comments that the 35 shades of brown palette seems excessive and uninteresting.

    • Karalee says

      February 21, 2018 at 8:34 am

You’re welcome! I understand b/c my daughter is 2 & whenever we go shopping I have to know what I want so we can be in & out or else I have to get it online!
The Morphe palette is so boring & I don’t know anyone who would need that many brown shades!

I agree with your conclusions. Although I really like packing Tarte Tarte Foil Finger Paints Shadow Palette. Probably a high price for this beautiful package.

    • Karalee says

      February 21, 2018 at 2:03 pm

Yes the packaging is gorgeous & I love Tarte, but I wouldn’t spend $39 for a very small palette!

I agree with all of these! That Morphe palette doesnโ€™t look like their best one at all! I love the 35O2 and the Jaclyn Hill the best, good for the money you pay!

    • Karalee says

      February 21, 2018 at 5:47 am

I’ve been eyeing the Jacyln Hill palette for a while now (the blues & purples look gorgeous) so that one might be my first Morphe palette! ๐Ÿ˜Š

      • Makeup by Erin says

        February 21, 2018 at 12:06 pm

I think itโ€™s 100% worth the price. If I had to get rid of all my palettes and keep one, it would the Jaclyn Hill one! โ˜บ๏ธ

I really like this post! I also think the Naked Petite Heat isn’t worth the money. I have Heat palette and it already has many matte shades so I don’t see why I’d need also these โ˜บ๏ธ

      February 21, 2018 at 8:40 am

Omg that morphe palette, it’s like they thought ‘how can we make the most boring palette possible’ ahhh. I absolutely love posts like this – sometimes it’s so much more fun to critique a bit when everyone else is raving about products. I can’t believe they’re releasing a mini naked heat, for the price you may as well get the full sized one!x

    • Karalee says

      February 21, 2018 at 5:59 am

It is fun to critique products! ๐Ÿ˜„ The Morphe palette also doesn’t have any light shades & it’s all the same brown/grey shades. The full sized Naked Heat Palette is also a better value when you compare the price per shade!

      • thatfeelinginside says

        February 21, 2018 at 8:38 am

Yeees theyโ€™re all pretty dark shades, seems like very odd thing to do for a palette!

    • Karalee says

      February 21, 2018 at 12:32 am

I’m glad I’m not the only one b/c the unicorn trend seems to be going strong! I love shimmer eye shadow & I sometimes like a little glitter in my blush, but other than that I just look super oily w/ highlighters & bronzers w/ shimmer finishes ๐Ÿ˜‚ also the Too Faced Festival Refresh Spray where your whole face becomes a glittery mess is a big thumbs down from me ๐Ÿ‘Ž

      • Pocket Full of Foxes๐ŸŒฟ says

        February 21, 2018 at 1:20 am

Oh god don’t even get me started on bronzers with shimmer… I’d literally glow in the dark with that Festival Refresh Spray๐Ÿ˜‚ hey at least we don’t have to spend a fortune on highlighters, we just have it naturally๐Ÿ˜‚

Great post!! I purchased the powder lip creams and i totally agree with what you said, it does absorb product. Plus the soft matte liquid lipsticks are actually better and they feel as soft and comfortable!!

    • Karalee says

      February 21, 2018 at 12:34 am

I would like to see swatches too, but just reading the reviews on Ulta’s website there were complaints about how it’s the same 4-5 shades repeated
