NYX Butter Gloss Review

Updated on January 30th, 2026

I hope everyone is having a good week so far! After I had been using the NYX Butter Gloss in Crème Brulee for a while, I decided to purchase another shade in Angel Food Cake, and I wanted to review both of them here.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission if you make a purchase through my links, but there is no extra cost to you.

The NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee and Angel Food Cake
The Crème Brulee (on top) and Angel Food Cake (on bottom) shades

Crème Brulee is a pale pink shade that is nice for the Spring and Summer, and Angel Food Cake is a mauve shade that is perfect for the Fall and Winter. Both glosses have good pigment, and they apply smoothly and evenly with the doe foot applicator. Even though these are lip glosses, they do not make my lips feel sticky. The Butter Glosses also live up to their name because they make my lips feel soft while looking glossy.

The only con of these glosses is that I have to reapply them throughout the day because they only last 2-3 hours without eating or drinking, and they are also not transfer-proof. However, I expected that because glosses tend to not last as long as lipsticks. These glosses are affordable, and there are more than 40 different shades available, ranging from pink, purple, red, orange, nude, and even Bling! shades. I would definitely recommend trying these lip glosses. The NYX glosses are a great alternative to the Kylie Cosmetics Gloss because the NYX glosses have the same results as the Kylie Cosmetics Gloss for a fraction of the price.

Left to Right: Crème Brulee and Angel Food Cake

Overall, the NYX Butter Gloss has good pigment and does not make the lips feel sticky, but it is not long-lasting. However, the glosses are great for the price, and I would definitely recommend them!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the NYX Butter Gloss vegan?

No, the Butter Gloss is not vegan, as the gloss contains beeswax. However, NYX does have over 95 vegan makeup products. If you are looking for a vegan lip gloss, I would recommend the NYX This is Milky Gloss Milkshakes for $8.50 or the NYX Lip I.V. Hydrating Lip Gloss Stain for $12.

Is the Butter Gloss gluten-free?

Yes, the Butter Gloss is gluten-free, and the ingredients do not contain gluten.

Is the Butter Gloss halal?

No, NYX is not halal certified, and they do not offer halal ingredients.

Is the NYX Butter Gloss plumping?

No, the Butter Gloss is not plumping. If you are looking for a plumping lip gloss, I recommend the NYX Duck Plump High Pigment Plumping Lip Gloss for $13.

Does the NYX Butter Gloss tingle?

Since the Butter Gloss is not plumping, it does not have a tingling effect on the lips.

Is the NYX Butter Gloss long-lasting?

No, the Butter Gloss is not long-lasting. The Butter Gloss lasts around 2-3 hours before needing to be reapplied.

Does the NYX Butter Gloss transfer?

Yes, the Butter Gloss does transfer. If you are eating or drinking, the Butter Gloss will need to be reapplied.

Is the NYX Butter Gloss sticky?

No, the Butter Gloss does not feel sticky on the lips, and it does have a non-sticky formula.

What does the Butter Gloss smell like?

The Butter Gloss has a subtle vanilla scent.

Is the NYX Butter Gloss good?

Yes, the Butter Gloss is good. The Butter Gloss is affordable, non-sticky, and has good pigment. The only downside to the gloss is that it is not long-lasting, but glosses generally do not last long on the lips before they need to be reapplied.

Which NYX Butter Gloss shade is the best?

The best Butter Gloss shade will depend on your personal preference for color. However, Angel Food Cake, Cinnamon Roll, Ginger Snap, and Praline are popular shades.

Does the Butter Gloss expire?

Like with any makeup product, the Butter Gloss does expire. Furthermore, the PAO (period after opening) is 18 months. Therefore, once you have opened the gloss, it is recommended to replace it after 18 months.

Have you tried the NYX Butter Gloss? What is your favorite lip gloss?

I’m a huge fan of the Ashley Tisdale lip glosses from BH cosmetics. They don’t last long either but I usually put her lip and cheek stain on underneath so I’ve got some color and reapply the gloss as needed. Plus they’re super affordable as well:)

I’m impressed that the lip gloss doesn’t leave lips sticky like other glosses. I love the look of lip glosses, but I’ve never liked the gross, sticky feel.

You know I wonder if the different shades are all different in formula because I have a dark purple shade and it’s just not good, it -is- sticky and applies unevenly and unless I’m imaginging things it’s also runny (??). And you know me, I usually like my NYX lip products.
So basically just saying: it’d be interesting with a comparison!

I thought all of the butter glosses would have the same formula. I’ll have to get a darker shade to try!

I love all my butter glosses but even if it has the same formula the actual pigment/shade can affect it! That’s why black shadows or dark liquid lipsticks are sometimes weird and patchy and inconsistent x
