Playing Mobile Games From Ads

I enjoy playing mobile games, and I occasionally see ads for them. I wanted to try out these games from the ads and see what I think, and if there were any new mobile games I would play long-term.

Disney Solitaire

In Disney Solitaire, you have several cards faced up on top of piles of faced-down cards. You have to pick a card that is either one above or below the card shown at the bottom of the screen. For example, in the screenshot a Jack is at the bottom of the screen. I can pick the Queen card that is faced up, which will then turn over the 2 cards the Queen was on top of. The round ends when all the cards on the table are removed, and you earn stars to unlock scenes from Disney movies.

I like playing Solitaire games, but the version of Solitaire in Disney Solitaire is quite simple because you only select a card above or below the value of your current card. There is not much strategy involved, and completing the first scene from Beauty and the Beast was enough for me. I would not continue playing Disney Solitaire, and I would only recommend Disney Solitaire if you like Disney and you want a simple Solitaire game to play.

FarmVille 3

I played FarmVille back in the day on Facebook, and I had no idea there were FarmVille 2 and 3 mobile games until I saw the ad for FarmVille 3. In FarmVille 3, you run a farm where you grow crops and make various goods to fulfill orders. When you fulfill the orders, you earn coins to unlock new areas of the farm, and sometimes you will be given farm animals such as chickens and cows.

After playing FarmVille 3 for a bit, I think it is an okay farming mobile game. At first, there is a lot to do with growing the crops, fulfilling the orders, and unlocking new areas of the farm, but then everything slows down. You have run out of energy to collect wood and other resources, you cannot fulfill any orders because you have to wait 10-15 minutes for your crops to grow, and you have to wait 5-10 minutes for the bread and soy sauce to be made. Therefore, your only option is to leave the game and come back at some other time. If you are looking for a decent farming mobile game, you can check out FarmVille 3, but it is not a game I will continue playing.

Happy Merge Home

In Happy Merge Home, you play as a home designer and renovate homes. You have around 6 different options for each of the areas of the space, and you need to buy the renovations with coins. To get coins, you have to merge different ingredients and serve customers.

I did like the customization options for renovating the homes, but the merging half of the game seems disjointed. Why am I combining ingredients to make coffee and brushes for customers when you are supposed to be a home designer? I also feel like the story is dull and starts out with the main character starting her own business because she was cut out of her dad’s company. I feel like Love & Pies is a much better combination of a customization game and a merge game with a good story. Therefore, I would not continue playing Happy Merge Home.

Idle Magic School

In Idle Magic School, you run a magic school, and students will come and learn. You will have tasks to build classrooms, upgrade the rooms, and more. Since Idle Magic School is an idle game, you will earn money while you are not playing.

I found Idle Magic School quite boring because I am able to play for less than 2 minutes before running out of money and having to wait. Also, even though there are different classrooms for basic theory, charms, flying, etc., all the classes function the same, and you will have the same tasks to upgrade the level, add seats, and reduce the teaching time. I would not continue playing Idle Magic School.

My Sticker Room

In My Sticker Room, you place stickers in a variety of rooms. Each sticker has a specific placement. Therefore, you have to place the stickers in the correct spots. Once you complete a room, you will unlock stickers that you can freely place in your own room.

I was intrigued by My Sticker Room because the art style is so cute, but I was overall disappointed by the game. I thought that I would be able to freely place all the stickers in the levels, but you can only place the stickers in the right spots, so the game is not challenging, and you cannot be creative. There are also forced ad breaks while you are playing a level, which is frustrating. I would not continue playing My Sticker Room.

Office Cat

In Office Cat, you run an office building, upgrade the building, and rent out rooms to companies.

Office Cat is similar to Idle Magic School, where you can only play for a short time before running out of money and having to wait. Like with Idle Magic School, I found Office Cat boring, and I would not continue playing.

Royal Kingdom

Royal Kingdom is the mobile game I have seen the most ads for. In the game, you build up the kingdom. You earn points to build up the kingdom and expand it by completing merge tasks.

I will say I do like the variety of merge levels. There are some levels that are your standard merge level, where you need to clear the board of boxes. Other levels involve fighting characters or moving the king through the level. That said, I did not really care for the game or the story, and I would not continue playing it.

Screwdom 3D

In each level of Screwdom 3D, you have to pull out colored screws corresponding to the boxes at the top of the screen. You can rotate the object and turn it upside down to find the right color of screws.

Screwdom 3D is a fairly simple game where you have to find 3 screws of the same color, at which point you will be given a new box to fill. That said, the further you progress in the level, the more challenging it can be to find screws that match because you can have parts of the object blocking the screws. You can hold different areas of the object to see what color of screw is underneath, so you do not have to randomly remove them. That said, Screwdom 3D is not that fun of a game, and I would not continue playing it.

Squishmallows Match

Squishmallows Match is a matching game similar to Candy Crush, where you match 3 or more of the same color to complete the level. There are also power-ups you can earn to help you complete the level. When you complete levels, you earn stars that you can use in the claw machine to get Squishmallows.

Squishmallows Match is a fine game, but if you already play a matching game like Candy Crush, I do not think it would be worthwhile playing unless you love Squishmallows. Each of the levels does have different goals, and they do seem to get progressively more challenging. That said, I would not continue playing Squishmallows Match.

Venue

In Venue, you are tasked with renovating rooms. For each level, you are given a description of the task, and then you choose from 9 options for the different furniture pieces, decor, wall color, and flooring. Once you complete a level, your renovated room is sent off to voting, and you receive a star rating and reward in 2 hours.

Venue is an okay game. I like all the different options you can choose for each room. Some options cost coins, which you get from playing the game, while others cost gems, which is the premium currency. However, I do see myself running out of coins soon. You will earn coins depending on the voting results, but you often spend more money than you get back. For example, you can spend 4,500 coins renovating a room. You earn 1,000 coins by submitting it for voting. The max reward for getting 5 stars is 3,000 coins, but you are likely to get fewer stars and earn between 750-2,000 coins, so you are losing 500-2,750 coins by playing the level. Therefore, I do not see myself playing Venue long-term.
