Guest Post | Scotland. Renowned for its history, natural beauty, and, of course, the Loch Ness monster. However, if you are a runner or looking to become one, you may want to head to Scotland to take part in the Edinburgh Marathon. This event, which started in 2003, is world famous for its views, massive appeal to runners, and the fun that goes along with it. If you want to head north for a run and are also looking to raise money for charity, why should you join the Edinburgh Marathon in 2025?
Largest Running Festival
You may not be aware, but the Edinburgh Marathon is the UK’s biggest running festival. It is also Scotland’s largest marathon – it attracts over 30,000 runners each year! This means that there will be no shortage of charities wanting to be represented at the run, meaning you will have your pick of which ones to run for. One of the most prevalent is Macmillan, so, if that sounds like the perfect charity for you to represent with your running skills, head to www.macmillan.org.uk to sign up.

Great For First Time Runners
When you want to take part in your first marathon, you do not want it to be overly taxing, or it may lead to injury. Interestingly, the Edinburgh Marathon is the perfect starting point for your marathon career, or even for a one-off. Why? Well, the course is flat, and the pace is fast, meaning there is no endurance running, which can be tough to handle for first-time runners. As well as this, the flatness means you will not have to build up to this race by taking part in others.
Accessible
As mentioned earlier, the Edinburgh Marathon has the benefit of being spread over a completely flat area. Therefore, if you are a charity runner who is in a wheelchair, or has issues with their mobility, you can still take part without it being detrimental to your health. This will allow you to raise money for the charity of your choice, while also having an easier run or walk.
Fastest Route
The combination of the flat roads and the overall layout of the race means it has been voted as the fastest marathon in the UK. This means it is easy to crush your personal best in this marathon, while also raising money for the charity of your choice.
It’s A Full Weekend
Regarding the Edinburgh Marathon, there is an entire weekend of activities to participate in. In total, you can participate in nine races, including, but not limited to, the marathon, the half marathon, the 5k and 10k run, and the team relay and junior races.
If you are able, or you are looking to participate in the Edinburgh marathon with others, you can raise even more money by participating in multiple runs and activities. Great! Just do not overdo it; no one wants a pulled muscle!

It’s great to read that the course itself is flat and therefore quite accessible for those with different fitness and mobility requirements. It sounds pretty good! If I did it, I’d have to walk it, but that would still be quite fun.
It is great that the course is flat so it’s accessible and you can walk it!
