Guest Post | Moving home is a huge life event. The process of finding your perfect property can take months and culminate in numerous viewings, many emails to estate agents, and tons of disappointment. However, once you have found your dream home, it is time to get started with the relocation process.
The relocation process can be exciting and stressful at the same time. Whether you are moving into a development of new build homes or moving to a different part of the country, relocating is a task that requires preparation and planning. Here are three steps that will take a lot of the stress out of moving.
Step 1: Preparation
There will naturally be some time between your offer being accepted and your actual move-in date. This gap is the best time to start making preparations.
Create a folder that you can keep on your person on moving day with all the important information you need. The folder should include contact information for the estate agents, any documentation you might need, and the home inventory that was completed by the previous owners.
Some people are happy to hire a van and move themselves. If this is the case, start looking at quotes so you can set a budget. You may even be able to persuade some friends to help you move who are happy being paid in pizza at the end of the day! For a smoother and more professional experience, consider working with a trusted team like Suddath Tampa moving company, known for handling relocations with care and efficiency.
Alternatively, get in contact with some removal companies for quotes if you feel more comfortable hiring professionals.

Step 2: Planning
If you are moving from rented accommodation your priority should be giving your landlord notice. Remember to check your tenancy agreement for your notice period to avoid any extra charges or rent payments.
Next, notify your utility companies. This is a twofold step as you will need to cancel any accounts on your old property and set up new ones to start when you move in. Do not forget to let your internet and TV provider know as some companies require a notice period before you move.
Packing supplies are invaluable when you are moving so be sure to stock up. You can buy large rolls of bubble wrap online for your valuables. Supermarkets are more than happy to give away any cardboard boxes too, so be sure to check with them to see if they have spare.
Step 3: Packing
Once you have all your packing materials you can start wrapping and boxing your items up. Start with your non-essentials first. This could be clothing for other seasons, shoes, books, and hobbies like camping gear.
Work methodically one room at a time. This will help to make sure you do not leave anything behind. Once you have finished a room, get someone to do a sweep to ensure every drawer and cupboard is empty.
Larger furniture can be a bit of a pain to reassemble. Use resealable bags to keep any disassembled screws and small parts together. Remember to make a note of which piece of furniture it has come from!
Do not forget to label the boxes and bags as you pack. Even if you just pop the name of the room on them, it will make unpacking at the other end so much easier.
Lastly, create an essentials bag for each person as if you were going on holiday. In the event of an emergency, you will have a change of clothes, identification, medication, and chargers that you need in a separate place. Keep these in your personal vehicle or on your person for easy access.

These are all great tips. Planning ahead is a must! It makes the entire process much smoother, which is crucial since relocating/moving can be stressful.
Thank you and I completely agree it’s good to plan ahead!
I’d add keep your kettle, mugs, tea bags, coffee, and biscuits in a separate box, so you’ve got them handy when you arrive and can make you (and your removal men) some drinks to keep you all going!
That’s a good tip! It’s good to have tea and coffee easily accessible during a move!
Good tips 😀
Thanks!
Yes, moving is a lot of work. Being well prepared is key! 🙂
I completely agree!
