How To Look Great On The Go

Updated on October 15th, 2025

AD | If you love to travel and look good while doing so, there are a few things you will need to do to make sure that actually happens. Traveling is fantastic and great for the mind and soul. However, it can take its toll on the body, specifically the skin and hair if you do not get much sleep or are in a hot or cold climate. Plus, with all the activities you will do while you are away as well as the time differences, your usual beauty routine might be difficult to stick to.

The good news is that it is possible to look great on the go, no matter where you are traveling to or what you are doing when you get there. It is just a matter of understanding what you need and planning to make sure you have it all to hand – including knowledge. So with that in mind, let us take a look at how to look great on the go so you can travel where you want and look fabulous at the same time. Read on to find out more.

Skincare Essentials

Although there are a few different things you will need to think about, your skin is probably the most important – it is the largest organ in your body, and if something goes wrong with your routine, it is the thing you will be aware of. That is why it is important to get your skincare essentials right to ensure you look and feel great.

Facial Mist

One way to get started is to get a hydrating facial mist. It is not just hot weather that can dehydrate your skin, air travel can too. If you combine those things, you are pretty much guaranteed to have dehydrated skin. A hydrating mist is a great idea because you can carry it with you and freshen up when you need to. Also, make sure you get one with ingredients like aloe vera, rose water, and hyaluronic acid to give you an instant boost of moisture.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen is another skincare essential that you will not be able to do without. The sun’s UV rays are harmful and can burn your skin. UV rays can also damage your skin without you realizing it, including aging the skin dramatically and giving you darker areas of skin. Plus, UV rays can lead to skin cancer. If you regularly wear sunscreen every time you go outside, you will be protected – choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and reapply it every couple of hours to be safe.

Cleansing Wipes

Traveling can get hot and sticky, which is why adding cleansing wipes to your bag is worthwhile. You will be able to wipe your face when you want to, removing dirt, grime, and sweat, and they will double as useful makeup removers too. There are many to choose from, but it is best to pick eco-friendly ones without harsh chemicals as that is better for your skin and the planet when you throw them away.

Lip Balm

Finally, a good lip balm will do wonders for you when you are traveling. The sun can quickly dry your lips out and become cracked and painful. Once that happens, the heat can make things look and feel worse. Add some lip balm to your lips to cool and soothe them instantly.

Haircare Essentials

After your skin, you will need to think about your hair. You will want your hair to look good, and although you might cover it with a hat when you are in the sun, that does not mean you should not be taking good care of it.

Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is an absolute must when you are traveling. It is a real lifesaver for those times when you do not have time to wash and dry your hair before heading out on your next exciting adventure. Dry shampoo absorbs excess oil and adds volume, making your hair look great in between washes. Dry shampoo is ideal if you are busy or you are not sure where you will be staying and what the facilities might be like.

Hair Ties and Clips

The next thing we are going to suggest might be a surprise, but it is still useful – hair ties and clips. Why are these such a good idea to take on your travels with you? Keeping your hair out of your face is vital when you are on the go for comfort and to keep it looking good, so pack a few hair ties and clips to help you create different hairstyles and manage any bad hair days (and no matter how hard you try, there will be some every now and then!). The best thing about hair ties and clips is that they are small and lightweight, so adding them to your bag is easy; you will hardly notice them, but you will be glad you have them.

Travel-Sized Haircare Products

Since you are traveling, the last thing you will want is anything too heavy and bulky to carry around, especially if you are not just staying in one place when you arrive. When you are shopping for haircare products like shampoo and condition, pick travel-sized ones. You will only need to use a little bit while you are away compared to at home anyway. You should have plenty and you will not have to lug big bottles around with you – and do not forget a mini hairbrush while you are thinking of things to pack. Also, you can get foldable hairbrushes that are easier to carry around with you.

Travel Accessories

Looking and feeling good while you are traveling is not just about your hair and skin – yes, they do make up a large portion of the entire look, but there are other accessories to think of that can complete your ensemble and be useful to have with you at the same time.

Crossbody Bag

One thing you will want to invest in is a crossbody bag, for example. You are going to need a bag while you are traveling, and although you might initially only think about a suitcase or holdall, the fact is you will want a day bag as well. How else will you carry your skin and hair care products with you, not to mention your makeup? A crossbody bag is the ideal option. Not only does a crossbody bag mean your hands are free to do whatever you need to do, but they are also spacious and more secure than a backpack. Since they go across your body, you can keep your eye on them at all times.

Reusable Water Bottle

Another good accessory to take with you is a reusable water bottle. We have talked about how keeping your skin hydrated is an important thing to do. Although mists and moisturizers are important, the best thing you can do to help yourself stay hydrated is to drink plenty of water. If you have a reusable water bottle, you can ensure you have plenty of water with you. You should also top it up when you need to, so you will not have a problem.

Travel Pillow

Although the next idea is not one hundred percent necessary, a lot of people do find it useful and can help them get some sleep while they are traveling, which will in turn help them look and feel better overall. We are talking about a travel pillow and perhaps an eye mask as well. For long flights or other long journeys, a travel pillow can make a difference. A good travel pillow will support your neck and help you sleep better. If you have an eye mask, that can help block out the light so you can sleep no matter what time of day it is.

Traveling does not mean you have to abandon your beauty routine, but you might have to modify it a little. If you have everything you need, you will soon be able to work out the perfect plan for you.
