AD – Sponsored and PR Product | I received a bag of Chippin Silver Carp Daily Food for my mother’s dogs Jackson and Little Lady to try, and I wanted to share the benefits of switching to sustainable dog food.
Chippin is a small women-owned business in the US with the mission of providing high-quality dog foods that help reduce the carbon footprint. Their dog food and treats use all-natural ingredients and 80% fewer resources than other pet food brands.

Uses Fewer Resources
Traditional pet food brands produce 64 million tons of greenhouse gases each year. Furthermore, 70% of the world’s water usage is used in agriculture, and livestock management is one of the leading causes of deforestation. However, Chippin uses 80% fewer resources including the land and water used and the greenhouse gases emitted than traditional pet food brands. For example, it takes 2,000 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef, but Chippin uses cricket protein in some of their dog treats, and it only takes 1 gallon water to produce 1 pound of cricket protein. By switching to sustainable dog food, you will use fewer natural resources and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Uses an Overpopulated Protein
Along with cricket protein in their dog treats, Chippin uses silver carp in their dog food and one of their jerky treats. Unlike salmon, cod, and tuna which are overfished, silver carp is an overpopulated fish in the US. In some rivers in Illinois and Ohio, silver carp make up 90% of the biomass. By fishing for silver carp, it helps restore fish and wildlife biodiversity. Furthermore, fishing for silver carp helps protect the Great Lakes and improves the water quality, which is a drinking water source for millions of people. By purchasing from brands like Chippin, you are not supporting overfishing and instead you are helping restore biodiversity.
Hypoallergenic
Some of the most common allergens for dogs are beef, chicken, lamb, and dairy. Chippin uses crickets and silver carp for their protein, which are hypoallergenic and more digestible than other proteins. Chippin is a great brand to consider if your dog has a sensitive tummy like Jackson.
Tastes Delicious
Many dogs love Chippin dog food including Jackson and Little Lady. Chippin’s dog food is omega-3 rich and contains all 10 essential amino acids. The dog food also contains ancient grains including oats, pumpkin, flaxseed, cranberries, spinach, yeast, and chicory root. If your dog ends up not loving Chippin’s dog food, they will refund your purchase.

Eco-Friendly Packaging
Chippin’s packaging contains 28% post-consumer recycled materials including milk cartons and yogurt containers. Their packaging helps decrease the amount of plastic pollution and microplastics in landfills and in our water sources. Chippin is also certified plastic neutral and they remove as much plastic from the environment as they use throughout their supply chain.
Carbon Neutral Shipping
When you place an order online, carbon gases, which are responsible for climate change, will be released when transporting your order to you. However, with carbon-neutral shipping, the carbon emissions are offset. All orders made on Chippin’s website have carbon-neutral shipping. Chippin partnered with Pachama to offset your order’s carbon footprint. When you make a purchase, Pachama will fund high-impact forest conversation and restoration projects around the world.
I haven’t come across this brand before but I have found a brand and collaborated on vegan pet food. I was surprised at how much my dogs enjoyed it! Pet food is strangely not something you think about when it comes to making sustainable choices.
Thank you for sharing your review!

That’s awesome you collaborated with a vegan pet food brand your your dogs liked it!
Yes we always think about sustainable swaps we can make in the kitchen, bathroom, etc., but we don’t think about pet food.
This is such a fabulous idea! I honestly never considered the environmental impact of pet food before – but it would easily add up so much considering how many people have pets! Great review x
mia
It is a good idea especially since people often don’t think about the environmental impact of their pet’s food
Yes I think it is work the extra money for the healthier sustainable dog food, Same goes for cat food too!

Yes definitely!
I recently worked with a vegan dog food company and loved the idea of sustainable pet food. When I did my research I didn’t find this brand. This sounds interesting. Thank you for sharing this brand!
Lauren
That’s awesome you worked with a vegan dog food company! Chippin is based in the US so that might be why you didn’t find them.
You’re welcome!
I had no idea you could get sustainable dog food like this – such a good idea to use an overpopulated fish too. I’ll have to see if you can get it in the UK – we don’t have a dog but plenty of my friends do 🙂
It’s great that they do use sustainable ingredients when so many pet food brands use other fish like salmon that’s often overfished.
As of now, Chippin only ships in the US.
I don’t own a dog but I have friends that do! It is also great that even dog food can be more sustainable and it’s great companies and brands are going more in this direction x
Yes I agree it’s great that there are pet food brands that are trying to make a difference & be more sustainable!
Oh, aren’t those two adorable!! I used to have a dog, but sadly, she passed away a few years ago. I still miss my little babygirl!
I love dogs and hey, they definitely deserve the best food! <3
Lots of love,
Krissi of the marquise diamond
They are adorable!
Aww I’m sorry to hear about your dog.
I agree!
Sustainability is what everyone should aim for these days so it makes sense to use sustainable dog food also. I do not have a pet so I cannot personally adopt this approach. It was interesting to read about it though.
I agree! Even though you don’t have a dog, it’s great to hear you thought it was interesting to read about!
These are definitely some great benefits for sure. Sounds like a great kind of dog food! I would definitely look into this if I had a dog too!
They are great especially since they use more sustainable ingredients & eco-friendly packaging & shipping!
The two dogs we live with have plenty of food allergies and are on an all-fish diet (including their treats) but my mum’s puppy is still looking for the perfect dry food so this one sounds like a great option! Great for her and sustainable – what more could anyone want?
That’s good your dogs are on an all fish diet to help with their allergies.
Yes it would be great for her!
I don’t have a dog, but loved learning about this company and product. I’m fascinated by the facts about silver carp and think that’s amazing they are using this fish as protein. It’s such a better way to cull the population of carp instead of just “getting rid” of them. Thanks for sharing about this!
That’s great you enjoyed learning about them! I completely agree! Also silver carp can be eaten by people, but because they don’t know about it, there’s no demand.
This sounds like a great brand, for the right dog. I have a dog but we have to give him specific food for a condition he has, so we obviously put his health first. But it’s great to have these different options!
That’s understandable! It’s important that you feed your dog what’s best for his health
Sustainable dog food is great. I have never considered getting sustainable food but I am switching to it.
It is great because they use more sustainable ingredients & eco-friendly packaging!
I did not know this was a thing; if I ever get to have a dog again then I would definitely look into this brand or something similar. Thanks for sharing!
It’s good that you now know that there are pet food brands that are trying to make a difference & help the environment
Cool. Anything ecofriendly is good in my book.
Yes definitely!
This is wonderful! I’m glad there are sustainable options for pet owners! I’m hoping to get a fur baby in the future and will definitely keep this in mind. Thank you for sharing!
It is great knowing there are pet food brands that are trying to make a difference!
Aww I hope you get a pet soon!
You’re welcome!
I love that animal food companies are looking at using more sustainable proteins. I had a dog who needed to go on an elimination diet with just a single protein and single starch. It was difficult in finding a protein source that she hadn’t been exposed to before. This sounds like a wonderful alternative. Thanks for sharing.
Yes it’s great that there are animal food companies that are trying to make a difference!
It sounds like it was difficult doing the elimination diet with your dog.
You’re welcome!
You know I honestly never thought about sustainable and more ecofriendly dog food! I might have to look into this for my pup. Great post 🙂 xxx

Thank you! It is definitely worth looking it to as it is better for the environment!
I never knew you could get sustainable pet food like this but it sounds like it’s well worth investing in. Great review!
Thanks! It is definitely a better alternative to pet food brands that do nothing to help the environment!
I’ve never really given in much thought about dog food begins sustainable. I’ve not had a dog since I was a child. I also assumed a lot of dog food was made with food that wasn’t suitable for human consumption, thus making it fairly sustainable. I never new dogs could have these kind of allergens
It is true that some dog foods contain ingredients humans normal don’t consume (like bone meal and meat-by-products), but those foods often do not have much nutritional value and they can even make dogs sick.
My childhood dog was a husky-chow mix and she would itch all the time. My parents took her to the vet and they found out she was allergic to grains so it is common for dogs to have allergies to certain foods or to have more sensestive stomachs like my mom’s husky.
I love this, we buy sustainable cat food for our cat! <3
That’s great you buy sustainable cat food!
We’ve never heard of this before, but we’re interested in checking it out for our dogs.
I definitely recommend checking it out because the dog food is more environmentally friendly and my mother’s dogs love it!
