Hygge Christmas Gift Guide

Updated on April 6th, 2022

AD – PR Product | Hygge is a Danish concept with many meanings and no exact translation in English. To some, hygge can be a sense of coziness such as sitting in front of the fire and enjoying a cup of tea while the weather outside is frightful. Hygge can be used to describe a sense of joy such as when you are together with your friends and family and enjoying a lovely dinner. Hygge can also be used to describe a sense of well-being for instance when you practice self-care and slow down to appreciate the little things. Whichever way you want to promote a hygge lifestyle, I created a gift guide for your friends and family featuring hyggligt gifts from small businesses.

For Coziness

Vintage Christmas Sweater

What better way to promote a cozy lifestyle than by gifting a vintage sweater? Instead of supporting fast fashion and buying new winter clothing as gifts, a more sustainable option is buying vintage. Beatific Vintage has a store in Livingston, Montana as well as an online shop that has a small selection of sweaters for men and women. The cat sweater I purchased is from the 80s-90s, and I absolutely love the cat design and paw prints on the collar.

Homemade Tea

Boheme Apotheca offers a range of homegrown and homemade loose leaf and bagged tea, which would be a perfect gift for tea lovers. I have tried both the chai tea, which is a delicious blend of ginger root, cinnamon, tulsi, cloves, cardamom, allspice, and black pepper and the calming tea, which contains chamomile, lavender, and catmint to promote relaxation. Boheme Apotheca is located in Livingston, Montana and has an online store as well.

American Snacks

Comfort Eats offers a selection of American snacks and foods including cookies, candy, chips, donuts, seasonings, spreads, and seasonal items. Whether you know someone who misses eating American food or would like to try some American snacks, Comfort Eats’ website is the place to shop. Comfort Eats offers international shipping, and in less than a week the box of snacks arrived at my door in Denmark! Comfort Eats kindly gifted me 5 of their item including:

  • Chips Ahoy! Reese’s: These cookies are the Chips Ahoy! chocolate chip cookies that then have Reese’s chunks added to them. I have never seen Chips Ahoy! cookies in Denmark, and I did not even know they made a Reese’s version, and they are so delicious!
  • Kernel Season’s Butter Popcorn Seasoning: This seasoning is made with real butter and adds a butter flavor to popcorn. My daughter LOVES popcorn, and I thought it would be great to try a popcorn seasoning because like all the other snacks I received in this box, popcorn seasoning is not a thing in Denmark, and my daughter enjoyed the seasoning!
  • Hostess Powdered Donettes: These donettes are the yellow cake donuts covered in powdered sugar. I love donuts, but there is not even a donut shop in Roksilde (the Dunkin’ Donuts at the train station shut down), so I was excited to a get bag of these donettes because they are one of my favorites!
  • Ruffles All Dressed: These chips were apparently a Canadian flavor that was then sold in the US. As the name suggests, the chips have the flavor of all dressings (ketchup, barbecue, sour cream and onion, and salt and vinegar). I have never heard of these chips before, but the flavor combination sounds interesting, and I am looking forward to trying them.
  • Reese’s Bats: These Reese’s bats are no longer available on Comfort Eats’ website as they were a seasonal Halloween item. However, I LOVE the seasonal Reese’s, but they are never available in Denmark, and I have never seen the bats before, so I was so happy to get a bag of these!

Bookish Candles

When you look up hygge on Google, one of the most common examples of how to promote a hygge lifestyle is by lighting candles, and what better way hygge gift than to gift a bookish themed candle? Novelly Yours offers generally bookish candles and candles inspired by popular books like Harry Potter. The candles range in size from 2oz-22oz and can be purchased individually or in a set. Novelly Yours also has a monthly subscription boxed that is filled with candles and other bookish items, which I highly recommend. I have previously purchased the Novelly Yours Mystical Magic Box from September, which is where this 300 Fox Way candle came from, and I absolutely loved all the witchy items!

For Joy

Custom Christmas Best Friend Poster

This poster is a great option for a gift for a friend. The poster is completely customizable, and you can change the hair, body, accessories, and message to match you and your best friend! Serena allowed me to customize a poster, and I made one to match me and Rei, and it turned out perfect! You can also select between 3 different sizes of posters, and you can include up to 8 friends. Once your design is ready, you can print it out and gift it to your friends! Pretty Wild Things also offers a card format if you prefer to give a card over a poster to your friends.

$6.66-$9.33 at Pretty Wild Things

Sea Glass Necklace

A beautiful gift to bring joy to those you love is a sea glass necklace. The sea glass necklaces are created using genuine pieces of sea glass found on the English shore, and each sea glass is completely unique in size, shape, and color. Zoe from Sand and Seagulls kindly gifted me one of her sea glass necklaces, and it will be the perfect gift for my boyfriend’s mother who has been struggling with health issues. Along with sea glass necklaces, Sand and Seagulls offers sea glass bangles and earrings as well as beach-themed bracelets, earrings, rings, and hairclips, and coastal home decor.

Digital Prints

Another great gift for friends or family would be an art print to provide a little hygge to their home. Beauty and Bentley offers a range of prints including ones of the moon, zodiac constellations, quotes, and personalized prints as well as the Crazy Plant Lady print Emma gifted to me. The art prints are digital, therefore, you can print it out then frame it, which would make a wonderful gift!

For Well-Being

Homemade Soap

For those that love skincare, a homemade soap would be a great gift. Most of the soaps are made with goat milk, and all of them are free of chemicals and artificial fragrances. The fragrances included in the soaps are 100% essential oil-based (plant-derived). I purchased the hemp soap with activated charcoal, and I use it on my face to provide a deep clean. Mountain Sage Soap also offers a homemade face wash, lotion, and lip balm.

$6.25 at Mountain Sage Soap

Plaid Flannel Heat/Ice PackHeat/Cold Pack

When the weather gets colder and someone you know is feeling under the weather, a heat/cold pack would be a great gift. The heat/cold pack is a flaxseed pillow that comes in a selection of 10 cute designs. For heat, the pillow can be heated in the microwave and used to provide warmth, relieve sore muscles and cramping, and help with stomach and digestive issues. The pillow can also be placed in the freezer to relieve swelling and headaches and ease the pain of cuts and scrapes.

Eat the Damn Muffin
by Jenni Dunlap

If you know someone who is struggling with their body confidence, I would highly recommend gifting them Eat the Damn Muffin. The book will help them start their self-love journey and build their confidence. Jenni has battled bulimia, and in her book, she shares her experiences and advice for learning to love yourself and your body no matter the size because every body is beautiful. I purchased this book for myself, and even though I am fairly confident with my body, the book is a good reminder for moments I am struggling with my body confidence, that I am still beautiful.

$5.99 for Kindle or $8.99 for Paperback at Amazon

Custom Crystal Pendulum

For those you know who are more on the spiritual side, I would recommend gifting them a custom crystal pendulum. Pendulums are used to check chakras, but for those who just enjoy the look of crystals, they can also be used for decoration. The pendulum comes in a jewelry pouch and includes instructions for cleansing the crystals.

$25 at The Lightfoot Way

My bf ended up eating all the cookies before I could try any, but I ordered a holiday box from Comfort Eats & I was able to make a gingerbread house & eat typical American Christmas sweets lol
