Novelly Yours September 2019 Box: Mystical Magic

Updated on March 4th, 2024

As a birthday present to myself, I ordered the Novelly Yours September 2019 Box. I received it at the beginning of this month, and now I would like to share the items that were in it.

Novelly Yours makes bookish candles, and the monthly box includes 5 exclusive candles and other items from bookmarks to enamel pins. The theme for September’s box was Mystical Magic, and it was inspired by the witchy and mystical characters from Harry Potter, The Raven Cycle, Hocus Pocus, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, A Discovery of Witches, and other books. First I will go through the candles I received followed by the rest of the items.

The Candles

All the candles from the Novelly Yours Mystical Magic box

300 Fox Way 9oz Candle

The 300 Fox Way candle is inspired by The Raven Cycle book by Maggie Stiefvater, and it has black tea, cleansing herbs, and tarot cards scent. The 9oz candle has a 50-60 hour burn time, and to me, the candle has a foresty scent that would be perfect for the winter.

Dumbledore’s Army 4oz Candle

The Dumbledore’s Army candle is inspired by the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling, and it has a butterbeer, cedar, and amber scent. The 4oz candles have a burn time of 20-30 hours. This is my favorite candle I received from the box, and it is the perfect fall scent.

Sanderson Sisters 2oz Candle

The Sanderson Sisters candle is inspired by the Hocus Pocus movie, and it has a broomstick, magic potions, leaves, and spices scent. The 2oz candles have a burn time of 10-12 hours. This candle has a scent that is difficult to describe, but it is similar to an air freshener scent.

Diana Bishop 2oz Candle

The Diana Bishop candle is inspired by the book A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness, and it has a red wine, honey, and caramel scent. The candle has a sweet floral scent, and it smells like you could eat it. This candle is my second favorite candle from the box.

Sabrina Spellman 4oz Candle

The Sabrina Spellman candle is inspired by The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina tv show, and it has a misty forest, the academy, and a grave dirt scent. The candle has a foresty scent that is more masculine than the 300 Fox Way candle. Out of the 5 candles, this one was my least favorite scent.

The Goodies

All the non-candle items from the Novelly Yours Mystical Magic box

Double-Sided 5×7 Print

The first print is inspired by the book How to Hang a Witch by Adriana Mather and Hocus Pocus. The How to Hang a Witch inspired side states, “You have more power than you know. You just have to be brave enough to use it,” and it features various witchy designs from pumpkins, plants, and different animals. The other side states, “It’s all just a bunch of hocus pocus” and features a witches hat, cauldron, pumpkin, crescent moon, bat, and cat.

Novelly Yours Candles Mystical Reading Recommendations

The recommendation is double-sided and states, “When in doubt go to the library,” and the other side includes a list of books that includes witches and other mystical and magical elements. I have not read most of the books on this list, so I will definitely be looking into reading some.

Double-Sided 5×7 Print

The second print is inspired by The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and general witchy vibes. One side states, “Something wicked this way comes” and features pumpkins and ravens. The other side states, “Who doesn’t enjoy a good scare how & again? Especially this time of year” and features a frog, skull, and flowers.

Double-Side Bookmark

The bookmark is inspired by the books The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw and Undead Girl Gang by Lily Anderson. The first side states, “Magic is a tricky thing. Not easily measured or metered or weighed,” and it features a crescent moon, pentagram, and different flowers. The other side states, “Spells are just prayers with more steps and a name that scares people,” and it features the moon, a bat, and flowers. Both sides of the bookmark have a pretty design, and I know will use it.

Pin Hoop

The pin hoop is inspired by generally witchy vibes, and it features a black floral cloth with a black bow that has orange moons and stars. The pin hoop is pretty, and I will have to find a place to display it.

Double-Sided Woodmark

The woodmark (wooden bookmark) is inspired by Harry Potter and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern . On one side, it states, “Don’t let the Muggles get you down” and features the Deathly Hallows symbol, the golden snitch, Hedwig, a Gryffindor scarf, and other Harry Potter related images. On the other side, the woodmark states, “Magic is secret and secrets are magic” and features a circus tent and various flowers. I love this bookmark especially the Harry Potter side, and I am looking forward to using it with the next book I read!

Unfogging the Future Enamel Pin

The enamel pin is inspired by Harry Potter, and it features the Unfogging the Future book, crystal ball, and cup of tea with a rose. I normally do not use pins, but this one is cute, and I will have to figure out where to put it.

A Little Witch Magnet

The magnet is inspired by the book Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman, and it says, “There’s a little witch in all of us” and features a witch. I love this magnet, and I am going to keep it on my fridge.

Maura’s Teas Loose Leaf Tea

The tea is inspired by The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, and it is an organic masala chai tea. The tea contains 5 servings, and I cannot wait to drink it.

Overall, I LOVED the witchy theme of this box! The candles had great scents, and I loved all of the other items included. I would definitely recommend purchasing a monthly box if there is a theme you are interested in. Right now you can pre-order October’s box, which has The Races of Thisby theme that is inspired by The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater and November’s box, which has a Stardust & Stories theme that is inspired by The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. The boxes are $35 each on Novelly Yours, which is a great value for all the items included.

Wow, what a fun box!! I love how they focused on more than one book. The price is so affordable for all those candles, too. I love pins & bookmarks but, never know what do with either of them (I mostly read eBooks). I see a lot of people put pins on their bags & jackets. 😊

Yes! I love that this box focused on several books as well as movies & tv series! I know some of the boxes (like the ones for October & November) only focused on 1 book.
I mostly listen to audiobooks & read ebooks too, but I do have a handful of paperback books on my TBR!
That’s a good idea for the pins!

I’ve never heard of this box before, but as a book AND candle lover, it sounds fabulous! Good for you for treating yourself! (And also, happy birthday!) I think the Dumbledore’s Army candle seems like it would be my favorite and smell amazing! Plus, the Unfogging the Future seems like such an adorable pin! (Can you tell really like Harry Potter??) I’ll have to check out this subscription box, but I loved the witchy theme of this one!! This was such a fun post to read!

Thank you for the birthday wishes! It was a great box & I can tell you like Harry Potter lol
Even though you can’t get any of the items from this box (there might be overstock for sale later), there is the wizarding collection of candles available
