3 Things That Make Me Happy

3 Things That Make Me Happy header

After the recent Moz update that lowered my blog’s DA by 9 points, I was feeling down about blogging. I talked to Rei over at Shenanigans of a Gamer Mom, and her blog’s DA went down as well. To help bring up our mood I suggested we do a collaboration on the things that make us happy, and now we are sharing our posts. Be sure to check out Rei’s post to read what makes her happy!

BooksSome of my books

I have always loved reading books since I was a kid, but my interest dropped when I started university. After being in lectures all day and reading textbooks, I had little motivation to read actual books. Fast forward to now and I love reading again. I have also started listening to audiobooks on Libby, which was a game-changer for me. I enjoy listening to audiobooks when doing chores or walking to pick up my daughter from kindergarten. It also makes me happy when I read or listen to a book and when I finish it. Currently, I am listening to Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, and so far I like it.

When I started my blog almost 3 years ago, it was after I had my daughter and I had a lot of extra free time. Since then there has definitely been some ups and downs with blogging, but mostly ups. It makes me happy to be able to write and share my opinions about a makeup product I tried, a book I recently read like Spark Joy by Marie Kondo, or even just sharing about my life and things I experienced like Fika when I went to Sweden for my master’s program. I also love that through blogging I have met many other amazing bloggers and even made some new friends.

When I was in high school, I would bake cupcakes for my friends and bring it to them the next day. It made me happy being able to make something that in turn made my friends happy. Since then I have expanded beyond cupcakes and I have baked cakes, cookies including matcha macarons, brownies, muffins, and even bread. I enjoy the baking process and creating something from scratch that tastes delicious. It also makes me happy when I can share what I made with my family.

What makes you happy?

      1. Thank you so much! Haha sleeping late is great, but I rarely get the change with my daughter. It’s always great being able to make others happy!

  2. Books & blogging are two of my favorite things in life, too. 🙂 Hope you continue to enjoy 13 Reasons Why. I loved that book when I was a teen!

  3. Books make me so so happy. Especially when you are reading a good book and you are all cosy, it is honestly one of the best feelings. Blogging and Baking makes me happy too, maybe not so much baking actually but more the eating!! xx

    1. Yes! The best is when it’s raining outside & you get to sit inside on the couch underneath a blanket while reading a good book!
Haha eating delicious baked treats is the best too! 😄

  4. This is such a great list. (: some things that make me happy are music, reading and my blog, so it seems like we have a lot in common! Great post!!

  5. Great hobbies to help you relax and make you happy. I’m sorry about your DA. I don’t check mine much. It was quite good and then I went self hosted so I’ve got to build it up again.

  6. I’m still not sure I understand the DA thing – other than the fact that mine is low. I’d never checked it before so I don’t know what it was before.
However, I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves to bake. I used to make cake and cookies all the time – as well as cook actual meals – for my friends in middle and high school. I’ve reignited the baking portion and hubby is officially hooked on brownies! I started my blog the same way, after baby girl was born, I ended up becoming a SAHM and have had loads of free time on my hands since.
As long as you remember the things that make you happy – and keep doing them – you’ll get through anything.

    1. DA is a number 1-100 & the higher your number, the higher you rank in search engines. Most blogger’s DA went down meaning they now rank lower in a search.
That’s great you love baking too! Brownies are delicious (pretty much everything with chocolate is haha)
It’s nice to hear you started your blog after you had your daughter too!
      & yes I agree with you 100%! 😄

  7. Books are defintely on my ‘makes me happy” list! Your not alone with the DA thing, pretty much every blogger I’ve talked too had the same thing happen! It’s disheartening but it will be okay and go back up I’m sure of it!

    1. I’ve talked to other bloggers too & it was nice hearing that we were all in the same boat, but it was still disheartening like you said. It will be okay & I’ll just have to keep blogging to get my DA up 😊

  8. I love this idea! For the most part, i am just happy i am on the green side of the grass❣ with age comes wisdom and i can tell you Life is way too short, Live It Responsibly!
