Saxo Book Haul

Updated on January 26th, 2025

Saxo is an online Danish bookstore, and at the end of February, they had a sale on all of their English books. I ordered 6 books, and I received them last week. If you are interested in any of these books, I will include links to Bookshop, which ships in the US and UK.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission if you make a purchase through my links, but there is no extra cost to you.

Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. The cover is black with what appears to be red tree roots. In the roots is an outline of a house.

Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

Gillian Flynn is the author of Gone Girl and The Grownup, the latter I recently reviewed. Dark Places is about a girl named Libby whose parents and sisters were murdered by a satanic cult. 25 years later, a club obsessed with crimes finds Libby and requests details about her family’s murder. Libby decides to reconnect with the people from that night, but she ends up finding herself on the run from a killer.

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. The book has a black cover with white marks that appear as cuts. The title of the book is written in a blue font.

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

Sharp Objects is another book by Gillian Flynn, and it follows a woman named Camille who returns to her hometown to cover the disappearance of a girl and the murder of another girl months earlier. While in town, Camille stays with her neurotic mother and half-sister. However, Camille must unravel the puzzle of her past to get the story and survive.

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. The cover shows a silhouette of a woman walking in a forest that is engulfed in fog. The title of the book is written in a pink to red gradient color.

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware

I previously reviewed The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware, and I decided to buy her first novel. In a Dark, Dark Wood is about a woman named Leonora who is invited out of the blue by Clara to join her for a weekend getaway in the English countryside. Leonora has not seen Clara for 1o years, but she reluctantly accepts the invite. However, when the first night falls, Leonora realizes that they are not alone in the woods.

I have since read and reviewed In a Dark, Dark Wood on my blog.

Available at Bookshop

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter. The cover of the book appears to be white wooden wall that has a torn photograph of a woman nailed to it. By the photo appears to be blood splatter.

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

Karin Slaughter is a popular author in Denmark, but her books are only sold in Danish at stores here. I decided to buy the English version of De Smukkeste because the Danish cover with the bloody hook was intriguing. Pretty Girls follows Claire and Lydia after their sister disappeared 20 years ago. The two sisters have not spoken since then until Claire’s husband is murdered. The two sisters look to the past to uncover the truth about their sister’s disappearance and the murder of Claire’s husband.

Available at Bookshop

Britt-Marie was Here by Fredrik Backman. The cover shows a woman wearing a purple long-sleeve shirt and a black skirt with her back towards the reader. Next to her on the left is a brown bag with cleaning supplies sticking out of it. On her right is a soccer ball wit ha mouse standing on it.

Britt-Marie was Here by Fredrik Backman

Fredrik Backman is the Swedish author of A Man Called Ove, and Britt-Marie was Here is another one of his books published in English. The book follows Britt-Marie after she leaves her cheating husband and becomes the caretaker of a small town’s recreation center. Along with her daily tasks, Britt-Marie is asked to lead the untalented children’s soccer team to victory. During the course of the book, Britt-Marie ends up finding love and second chances in the most unlikely of places.

Available at Bookshop

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J. K. Rowling. The cover is a dark blue shade with gold embellishments. The title is also written in a gold color.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J. K. Rowling

This book is the original screenplay of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The screenplay is about Newt Scamander whose magical case is misplaced while in New York which leads to some of his fantastic beasts escaping. I no longer support J. K. Rowling, but if you are interested in the book, I recommend buying it secondhand.

Yes, I read lots but my kind of books are more of spiritual and mystical nature.
The book of woman by Osho
The book of man by Osho
Three truths of well being by Sadhguru
You may not like these taste 😂

Oh those sound interesting! I occasionally read Buddhist books. One of my favorites is An Open Heart by the Dalai Lama. I also bought the Joy of Living and Dying in Peace by the Dalai Lama recently, but I haven’t read any it yet.

An open heart is a beautiful book. Dalai Lama is such a superb teacher. His words are deep of love and compassion and blessed.
Haven’t read the second book you said but sure will get that. Thank you for sharing that name. 😊

Those are some great books you have there. I am a huge Karin Slaughter fan myself. Have not yet read this one, an]m a bit behind on reading novels, but loved the Sara Linton series. Seriously tense and gripping stuff she writes 😊

I have never heard of her before until I moved here! If I like this novel (which I probably will since I love thrillers), I’ll check out that series next! 😄
