AD | Most people do not expect a cruise to take you to an unsung destination. However, once you explore Mediterranean ports that are often underrated, you will get immersed in an entirely new kind of cultural, historical, and culinary experience.
The path towards Amalfi, Santorini, Dubrovnik, and other popular Mediterranean ports is well worn out. When you venture a bit off the beaten path, you will discover another side of the Mediterranean that will enrich memories.
Cala Gonone, Sardinia
The secluded Cala Gonone is located on the eastern coast of Sardinia. Cala Gonone offers an unparalleled escape into the arms of Mother Nature.
The area is renowned for some of the most off-the-grid beaches in Italy including Cala Fulli Beach and the Central Beach of Cala Gonone. Furthermore, some of the beaches in Cala Gonone are accessible only by boat.
Cala Gonone is an ideal destination for those seeking solitude among the dramatic cliffs that rise high from the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean.
Aeolian Islands, Sicily
While most boats have the famous Amalfi Coast in their sights, a more unique and peaceful cruising experience can be had on the Aeolian Islands. The Aeolian Islands are located just off the north coast of Sicily.
The islands are a volcanic archipelago that is home to some dramatic landscapes and azure blue waters. The Aeolian Islands make for a fantastic island-hopping adventure.
Visitors can explore the rugged terrain of Stromboli and cast an anchor at Salina, known for its lush vineyards and sustainable products.

Mljet, Croatia
Offering secluded beaches and lush forests, Mljet is a hidden Mediterranean summer gem of Croatia. Sailing along the pristine coastline you will come across numerous covers where you can easily drop anchor and spend the night with no one else in sight.
Mljet is one of Croatia’s greenest national parks and has a plethora of hiking trails. Mljet is home to the Great and Small Lake, two bays of saltwater located in the north of the island. The place is perfect for swimming in the calm waters.
Hydra, Greece
The famous Greek islands are popular yacht charter destinations. However, in the peak season, they are overrun by tourists. Instead, visiting the lesser-known island of Hydra during the summer is a good idea.
Hydra lies within the Saronic Islands chain and can be reached only by boat. Furthermore, catamarans rentals in Hydra are available to allow you to explore the island. Moreover, the island is car-free and the only mode of transport is by donkey or by foot. However, if you wander through the port, you will enjoy the idyllic vibe. Hydra is a short distance from Athens and makes for a perfect Greek yacht charter holiday.

Gozo, Malta
Malta is another popular Mediterranean destination. However, the small sister island of Gozo remains relatively crowd-free even though it boasts some of the best diving sites, including a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Gozo is an idyllic getaway, just a stone’s throw away from Malta. Its rocky shores are strewn with ancient sites and rugged cliffs rising up from the clear waters. There is plenty to do in Gozo without impacting the environment.
Kotor, Montenegro
Kotor is also a fantastic destination for those looking to indulge in a stress-free getaway, making it a perfect stop on an all-inclusive cruise. Nestled in the secluded Bay of Kotor, this port city can provide you with stunning mountain landscapes and ancient buildings. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers you a perfect blend of natural beauty and history ideal for holidays.
To enjoy panoramic views of the city and the surrounding landscape, you can climb the walls of the fortress. You can also lose yourself in the narrow alleys and lanes that take you back in time. Those seeking serenity and tranquil experiences can enjoy the turquoise shores of Kotor and enjoy this slide of paradise.

Hvar, Croatia
If you are looking for one of the sunnier spots in the Mediterranean, Hvar in Croatia would be an excellent destination for you to choose. This port town is known for its crystal-clear blue waters, lavender fields, and historic architecture. The Hvar Fortress dominates the skyline of this town. From here you can enjoy panoramic views of the port and the clear waters beyond it.
The dual combination of historic charm with modern vibes and amenities makes Hvar one of the desired destinations in the Mediterranean. Here you can enjoy stunning coastal views, reliable sunny weather, luxurious accommodations, delicious cuisine, and endless adventures that are second to none.
Great suggestions for unique Mediterranean spots! Cala Gonone and Hydra sound especially inviting for a peaceful getaway.

You’re welcome! I hope you can visit them one day!
These are some great recommendations! I love a seaside retreat, but my tranquility is really upset when there are tons of crowds. Smaller/hidden gem options are better for me!
Thank you and yes it is nice finding less crowded areas to enjoy some peace and quiet.
I have got fond memories of Gozo. I must explore more of these Mediterranean islands.
That’s awesome you’ve been to Gozo!
