AD – Sponsored | Renting is on the rise, with over 30% of people in the US, the UK, and Canada currently leasing or renting. For those who own property, this is a fantastic time to offer something people need while also gaining an income that can help them make other investments in life.
If you are considering trying to make a rentable living space out of your home: here’s what you have to do.
Consider The Layout of Your Home
Some homes can easily be split into a duplex or a split-level rental. Consider the layout of your home, how your home compares to the average UK house height, and how much it would cost to make your home into a duplex or split-level rental. Unfortunately, most homes are not geared to be made into multiple apartments since that would mean a shared kitchen and a high risk of incidents you would have to step in for as a landlord.
To maximize space, think about investing in adaptable furniture. Adaptable furniture allows you to optimize room usage by providing versatile and multifunctional home furnishings, which can make even a small space feel more accommodating and practical for tenants.
If your home is a two-bedroom one-level, that is okay! There are more ways to add rental space.
Is There Space for Another Building on the Property?
Consider building another property if your home is smaller or on a much larger piece of land. Two smaller properties can gather more rent per month than one, and you will be able to have your rentals in one area instead of having to drive all over the city when you want to look at them.
If there is space, consider building a unit with a clear line between your home and the rental. Make it seem more like two lots, even though it is on a shared lot. When you are building the rental property, Flooring Hub will help you find the perfect flooring. From Engineered Wood Flooring, Solid Wood, Parquet Flooring, Luxury Vinyl Tile, and Laminate, all their products are of outstanding quality to help transform your rental space.
Look At What Rentals Are Available In Your Area
What types of rentals are in your area and how much are they renting for? To find homes similar to yours, consider starting by looking at Whistler homes for sale and seeing which ones are priced around your home’s value. From there, you can find a more subjective look at a description of your property and find a similar rental.
Look at what amenities they offer, what perks they describe in the area, and if they are currently rented or not. Although your property will have its differences, you can learn about what renters are looking for in your area this way.
Ensure That Every Room and Space Is Up to Code
What is up to code is different in every area, so it’s important to thoroughly research the local laws and rules for residences and rentals. This might mean that you have a spare room that you want to call a bedroom, but you live in an area where it needs a closet to be labeled as one. You can put in the drywall to make it a closet for less than a thousand dollars, and an extra bedroom can give you a couple of extra hundred dollars every month.
Ensure It’s A Safe Property
The most important thing you can do for your rental is to ensure that it is safe. For example, give the mailbox a lock if it is in a more heavily trafficked area and add a number-pad lock to the front door instead of a key lock so that you will not have to come out if the tenants lock themselves out. Little changes make a big difference.
such a great post! Sometimes we forget how much white space a house has and how easy it can be to re-utilise to something that makes money! Great post!
Thank you! I completely agree! If you do have the space, it could be worthwhile turning it into a rental space.
This is a really helpful post for people who are looking to do this. Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome!
Well. I haven’t reached there yet. And also, I’m not really knowledgeable on the rental.sibjrcy. the laws differ with each other. But your research and information is great!! Found it interesting to read. Will do your previous posts soon too. Excuse me for being so slow with blog visits. Xx

I haven’t reached there either since homes are expensive in my city so many people including myself live in apartments. That’s okay! I don’t expect you to return comments right away.
This is such great information and tips! Thanks so much for sharing!
You’re welcome!
This was very interesting for reading. Thank you for sharing advices, but I don’t have enough space in my home.
Thank you! I currently live in an apartment so I don’t have the space either, but it’s something to consider in the future.
Very interesting post! I don’t own property yet but it’s definitely something I’d be interested in later. My sister and I always talk about buying a property, doing it up and renting it out.
Thank you! I don’t own a home either, but it would be worthwhile to consider renting out space in the future.
That would be exciting if you & your sister bought property & rented it out!
Great Post!!!
Thank you!
This would be great for a bit of extra income. We don’t have space for this though, sadly!

It would be! I currently live in an apartment so I don’t have the space either
I’ll likely never be in a situation when I could rent anything out. I doubt I’ll ever be able to buy a property. But if you’re going to rent out space to tenants, please don’t be a slumlord that oh so many renters have to deal with
I won’t be in this situation either since homes are so expensive in my city so many people live in apartments including myself, but I agree with not being a slumlord!
