5 Ways to Brighten Your Home

Updated on September 10th, 2024

AD – PR Product | After living in my apartment for over 3 years, I wanted to find easy and affordable ways to brighten my home and then share them with you!

Tidy Up

Back in February and March, I went through the KonMari Method with my partner, and I shared a post about My Tidying Experience. We went through our clothes, books, papers, and miscellaneous items and decided which items to keep, sell, donate, and throw away. By tidying our apartment, we were able to change the atmosphere. Instead of being overwhelmed by clutter that was shoved into closets and drawers, we have an enjoyable clutter-free home to live in. If you have clutter in your home, I definitely recommend going through your own tidying campaign. You could even open up new space for new decorations or utilities! That might include a new router after searching internet options by address, stopping the annoying buffering when watching Netflix. Or you might integrate a new reading corner or a wonderful seating area in your bay window.

Clean

After tidying your home, you should clean it since the KonMari Method only focuses on keeping items that bring you joy and discarding the rest instead of actually cleaning your home. Every other week I like to do a deep cleaning of my apartment because living with my partner and our daughter in a small space can lead to an accumulation of dirt. I like to clean the bathroom, vacuum, mop the floors, clean the dishes, do the laundry, and clean anything else that may be dirty. By cleaning your home, you are making it a better environment to live in that is dirt and dust-free.

New Decor

Besides tidying and cleaning, an easy to way brighten your home is to buy new decor, and that is where Nicole’s Niches Shop comes in. You can find printable art decor for your living room, bedroom, bathroom, and office. Nicole kindly gifted me 3 of her prints including the Be Kind, You’re a Sunflower, and Namastay in Bed prints.

Once you purchase a print from Etsy, you will receive a PDF which you can then download and print yourself. After printing, you can buy a frame that fits with the current decor of your home and either place the print on a shelf or hang it on a wall. Along with new art decor, you can look for a new rug for your living room and pillows for your couch, or scented candles to place on your dining room table or shelves.

If you want to take on a larger project, you can update your outdated flooring with Engineered Wood Flooring from Flooring365. Engineered Wood is a real wood flooring that is long-lasting, moisture resistant, has a quality finish and design, and will definitely brighten your home.

For more ideas of what to do, Nicola also has a great post on How to Update Your Home on a Budget.

New Linens

In our bedroom, we had Pokemon bed linens from when my partner was a kid and linens from when I lived in my apartment during college, and they did not go together. I decided to buy new matching floral linens for our bed, and it helped bring our bedroom together. My daughter also has Animal Crossing linens for her bed as well as a Tom Nook plush. As well as bed linens, you can also consider buying other soft furnishings such as new curtains for your living room or towels for your bathroom to help brighten those rooms and bring them together.

Add Succulents

The last way to easily brighten your home is to add a few succulents. I love plants, but I am terrible at keeping flowers alive, so I have a range of succulents instead. Succulents are easy to take care of since they only need water about once a week, but you do not have to worry about your succulent dying if you forget to water it. I keep my succulents on the windowsill of my kitchen and living room, and it helps add greenery to my home. Also, four of my succulents bloomed this year, which was nice to see. If you like having plants in your home, but you do not have a green thumb, I recommend succulents to help brighten your home.

Conclusion

Incorporating these simple tips can brighten up your home, creating a more inviting and aesthetically pleasing space. Not only should your home feel visually welcoming, but keeping it clean and pest-safe is equally crucial for maintaining a healthy living environment. Ensuring your home is regularly cleaned and free of clutter can help prevent pests from entering, contributing to a comfortable and refreshing atmosphere year-round.

I wish I had the time. Hubby, the gym, cooking, and shopping seem to take all my time.
