With Christmas just around the corner, what better way to celebrate the holidays than with a Christmas movie or series? In this post, I will share my recommendations of the 10 best Christmas movies and series on Netflix.
#1-3 A Christmas Prince (2017), A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding (2018), and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby (2019): The first A Christmas Prince movie was released in 2017, and since then Netflix releases a new movie in the series every year. A Christmas Prince (2017) follows an undercover journalist who poses as a tutor to get the inside scoop on a playboy prince while the following movies follow the planning of the royal wedding and preparing for the arrival of the royal baby. The movies are a bit on the cheesy side, but they are sweet. They are also all set around Christmas, which makes them perfect to watch during the holidays.
#4 The Knight Before Christmas (2019): The Knight Before Christmas was released this year, and it is about a medieval English knight who is magically transported to the present day where he falls for a high school science teacher. The movie is a bit cliche, but it is a cute light-hearted romance movie. Also, Vanessa Hudgens and the other actors are likable, and I would recommend watching this movie.
#5 The Princess Switch (2018): The Princess Switch is another Christmas movie that Vanessa Hudgens plays in. In the movie, a Chicago baker competes in a Christmas baking competition in Belgravia where she runs into the prince’s fiancée who looks just like her, and they decide to switch lives for two days. Like with the previous movies, The Princess Switch is a bit cringey, but the storyline is sweet and worth watching.
#6 Elf (2003): Elf is an older movie that you have probably seen, but it is about a human who was raised amongst elves at the North Pole, and he travels to New York to search for his biological father. Elf is an entertaining comedy that is different than all the Christmas romance movies out there.
#7 Let it Snow (2019): Let it Snow was released this year on Netflix, and it follows a group of young people who are brought together during a snowstorm. The movie is a teenage version of the Christmas romance movies included in this list, and I liked that it followed the different storylines. The movie is lighthearted, and I would definitely recommend it.
#8 Merry Happy Whatever: Unlike the previous movies included in this list, Merry Happy Whatever is an 8 episode sitcom (laugh-track included) that follows a father as he navigates the stress of the holiday season when his daughter brings home her new boyfriend for Christmas. Merry Happy Whatever has a great cast, and it is fun to watch.
#9 Home for Christmas (Hjem til Jul): Home for Christmas is another series with 6 episodes that is about a woman who starts a 24-day hunt to find a boyfriend to bring home for Christmas. The series is Norwegian, but you can watch it either dubbed or subbed (I prefer subbed for live-action movies and series). The series is quirky, funny, and romantic, which makes it enjoyable to watch.
#10 Nailed It! Holiday!: Nailed It! Holiday! has two seasons where amateur bakers with a bad track record compete in a holiday-themed baking competition. I love Nailed It! and the holiday version is perfect to watch with all the festive desserts the bakers attempt to make.
