Empties #8

It has been over a year since my last Empties #7 post, but I am excited to bring it back since I enjoy reading and writing these posts. In this empties post, I will briefly review each product, rate it, and decide if I would repurchase it or not.

Hair and Body

The hair and body products I usedBatiste Original Dry Shampoo: Batiste is my go-to dry shampoo, and this Original one was in the larger 400 ml can, so I decided to give it a try. The dry shampoo is effective at making my hair less oily 3-4 days after I washed it, and the dry shampoo does not leave any white residue in my hair. The dry shampoo also has a citrusy floral scent, but I prefer the actual Floral scent. Even though I liked this dry shampoo, I would not repurchase it because I would purchase the Floral scent instead.

Batiste 2 in 1 Invisible Cocoa and Cashmere Dry Shampoo and Conditioner: I have not tried Batiste’s 2 in 1 dry shampoo before, so I wanted to give it a go. This dry shampoo has a nice chocolate scent, but as far as being a dry shampoo, I think the normal Batiste dry shampoos are more effective at combating the oiliness of my hair. As far as being a conditioner, I did not notice any conditioning effects. My hair was not softer or shinier, so I would not repurchase this 2 in 1 dry shampoo because it was not effective.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo: I received this mini dry shampoo as a free gift with purchase. The dry shampoo has a strong citrus floral scent (even more so than Batiste) which I did not like, but it did my make hair less oily and it did not leave any white residue. Even though this dry shampoo is effective, I would not repurchase it because I do not like the scent and it is more expensive than Batiste.

The Ritual of Sakura Caring Shower Oil: I received this shower oil in a set as a gift. The shower oil has a cherry blossom scent, but I do not like it that much. Since this is an oil, it is more liquidy than a shower gel which I found a little more difficult to use. However, the oil washed off easily and made my skin feel soft. I would not repurchase this shower oil because I like using shower gels instead, and I do not like the Sakura scent.

Ilse Jacobsen Sea Buckthorn Body Shampoo: I received this body shampoo in my June 2018 GoodieBox, and the body shampoo has a unique mandarin, spearmint, rose, violet, blackcurrant, musk and cedarwood scent, but I did not like it that much. However, the body shampoo cleans and softens my skin well. I would not repurchase this body shampoo since I did not care for the scent, and Ilse Jacobsen is an expensive brand.

Vichy Spa Shower Gel-Cream: I received this shower gel-cream in my December 2017 GoodieBox, and it has a fresh peach flower, rose and vanilla scent. I liked the scent, and the shower gel-cream cleans and softens my skin. However, I would not repurchase this shower gel-cream since Vichy is not cruelty-free.

Miqura Hair Steam Mask: I wanted to have a spa night so I purchased this hair mask from Normal. I washed my hair then towel dried it before wearing the hair mask for 15 minutes. The cap stayed in place during that time, and after the 15 minutes I rinsed my hair. My hair did feel soft, but I feel like I could get the same results from using a conditioner. I liked the experience of using a hair mask, but I would not repurchase it.

Eyes, Lips, and Nose

The eyes, lips, and nose products I usedBioré Limited Edition Cheetah Deep Cleansing Pore Strips: I purchased a box of these pore strips and shortly after I received a second box in my June 2018 GoodieBox. The box contains 6 pore strips with a cheetah print, and they are applied to a wet nose and removed after they are dry, which is around 10-15 minutes later. The pore strips are not painful to use, and they effectively remove blackheads from my nose, but I would not repurchase these because I prefer the charcoal pore strips from Biore.

Clean Sense Nose Strips: I purchased these pore strips from Normal, and a box contains 5 strips. The strips are used the same way as other nose strips, and they were not painful to remove, but these nose strips were not that effective at removing blackheads or other impurities. I would not repurchase these nose strips because the Biore ones are more effective.

Beauty Formulas Tea Tree Deep Cleansing Nose Pore Strips: I actually purchased these from Normal for my boyfriend, but I tried them out as well. One box contains 6 strips, and they are used the same way as other pore strips. The strips were not painful to use, and they removed blackheads and other impurities. I also like that the pore strips contain tea tree and witch hazel. I would repurchase these pore strips because they are an effective and cheaper alternative to Biore.

Flying Tiger Charcoal Nose Strips: I purchased these nose strips from Flying Tiger, and the package contained 2 strips. The strips are used like all other nose strips, but they were so painful to remove. However the strips were effective at removing impurities. Since the strips contained charcoal, they made my nose black, but it washed off easily. I would not repurchase these nose strips because they were so painful to use and both Biore and Beauty Formulas are effective without being painful.

JiinJu Ginseng & Eucalyptus Under Eye Mask: I purchased this under eye mask from Normal mainly because I love koalas. The package contains 2 under eye masks, and they were easy to apply. I wore the mask for 20 minutes, and they did not slide down my face during that time. After the 20 minutes, my under eye area felt awake and hydrated. I would repurchase this under eye mask because it is effective.

The Body Shop Camomile Gentle Eye Makeup Remover: I used this vegan eye makeup remover to remove my eyeshadow and mascara, and it was effective at removing my makeup, but it burned my eyes. I had to use a tiny amount on a cotton pad at a time because it would burn my eyes if I used too much. I would not repurchase this eye makeup remover because all other eye makeup removers I tried do not have a burning sensation like this one.

L’Oréal Paris Smooth Sugars Glow Scrub: I received this sample scrub in my April 2018 GoodieBox, and I mainly used it on my lips, but you can use it on your face too. I loved the sweet scent, and it did make my lips feel softer. However, I would not repurchase this scrub because L’Oreal is not cruelty-free.

Flying Tiger Moisturizing Lip Mask: I bought this lip mask from Flying Tiger because I have not tried a lip mask before. The mask is a jelly-like lip shaped mask that is much larger than my lips. I wore this lip mask for 15 minutes, but during that time the mask kept falling off. I also did not really notice a difference in the look and feel of my lips when I took the mask off. I would not repurchase this lip mask because it is inconvenient and ineffective to use.

Face

The face products I usedNaobay Equilibria Face Mist Toner: I received this toner in my April 2018 GoodieBox. I used the toner in the morning and even after cleaning my face, and it is supposed to balance, cleanse, and moisturize the skin, but I cannot tell if it actually did anything for my skin after using the whole bottle. I would not repurchase this toner because I did not see any benefits from using it.

Mario Badescu Botanical Exfoliating Scrub: I received this scrub in a Mario Badescu set I bought, and I used it 2-3 times a week. Even though it is exfoliating, it is gentle on my skin and makes it feel soft and clean. I would repurchase this scrub, but the price is a bit high.

Australian Bodycare Tea Tree Oil Spot Stick: I received this spot stick in my October 2017 GoodieBox, and it contains tee tree oil and witch hazel. The spot stick had a roll-on top which was easy to use, and I used the stick as needed on impurities and blemishes, and it also helped reduce breakouts. I would repurchase this spot stick because I liked the roll-on form of tea tree oil.

TonyMoly Red Cheeks Girl’s Patch: I purchased these cheek patches on clearance from Sephora since my cheeks can get red. I wore these patches for 20 minutes, but the patches continuously slid down my cheeks even when I was laying down. After 20 minutes, I did not notice any difference in the redness of my cheeks. I would not repurchase these cheek patches because they are useless.

W7 Coffee 3D Sheet Mask: I purchased this sheet mask from Normal, and it contains coffee, collagen, hyaluronic acid and witch hazel. I wore the mask for 20 minutes, and my skin felt soft and moisturized. I would repurchase this mask because it is effective and also affordable.  I also gifted this sheet mask to Rei, and she loved it too.

£2.99 / $4 at W7

Rate: 9/10

Alpaca Face Sheet Mask: This is another sheet mask I purchased from Normal, and it actually looks like the alpaca design on the package which is cute. The sheet mask contains cucumber extract, and I wore it for 15 minutes and afterwards my face felt moisturized. Even though this is a cute sheet mask, I would probably not repurchase it since there are more effective sheet masks like the W7 one above.

Masque Me Up Bubbeling Sheet Mask: I purchased this bubbling sheet mask from Normal, and it is the second bubbling mask I have tried. The bubbling mask contains charcoal and bamboo, and I wore it for 8 minutes. During the 8 minutes, I could feel the bubbling effect which I am still not used to. However, my face did feel nice and clean after the 8 minutes. I would not repurchase this bubbling sheet mask because I do not really like the bubbling effect.

Hands and Feet

The hands and feet products I usedThe Ritual of Sakura Soothing Hand Balm: I received this hand balm as a gift. Like with the shower oil, I do not care for the cherry blossom scent. The hand balm also felt thick and greasy, so I would only use in the evenings. My hands did feel soft after using this hand balm, but I would not repurchase it because it feels greasy.

$12.50 at Rituals

Rate: 3/10

The Body Shop Berry Bon Bon Hand Cream: I bought this hand cream in a set as a Christmas gift to myself, and I love the scent because it is a mix of berries and sweets. The hand cream absorbs quickly, does not feel greasy, and makes my hands feel so soft. I would repurchase this hand cream if it returns during The Body Shop’s next winter collection.

£5 / $6 at The Body Shop UK

Rate: 9/10

The Body Shop Vanilla Marshmallow Hand Cream: This is another hand cream that was in the set I bought, and this hand cream has a nice vanilla marshmallow scent. Like with the previous hand cream, this hand cream absorbs quickly, is not greasy, and makes my hands feel soft. I would also repurchase this hand cream.

Rate: 9/10

JiinJu Lemon Crush Hand Cream: I bought this hand cream from Normal mainly because I loved the cute animal container. The hand cream is lemon scented, but the container barely had any hand cream in it so I went through it quickly. My hands also did not feel that moisturized and I felt like I had to continuously layer on the hand cream especially when compared to other hand creams like the above The Body Shop ones. I would not repurchase this hand cream because it is not that good of a hand cream and there is so little product in the container.

Masque Me Up Foot Mask Socks: I purchased this foot mask from Normal, and it contains a pair of foot socks. I wore the foot mask socks for 20 minutes and then rinsed off the excess product. My feet did feel soft after using this foot mask, but the results were not long-lasting. I would not repurchase this foot mask because I prefer using the foot masks that are peeling and remove the dead skin.

40 kr / $6 at Luxplus

Rate: 4/10

Starskin Exfoliating Double-Layer Foot Mask Socks: The heels of my feet were dry and cracked so I purchased this foot mask from Matas when it was on sale. The foot mask contains a pair of foot socks, and I wore them for 90 minutes. After the 90 minutes I rinsed off the excess product. Within a week my feet started peeling. My feet did look gross during the peeling process so I recommend wearing socks during this period, but I believe it is worth it since after peeling, my feet felt soft and smooth, and the results were long-lasting. I would repurchase this foot mask if it was on sale again because I like the results.

  1. It is always exciting to read about people’s product empties. I need to look into dry shampoo one of these days. Even though the 2 in 1 wasn’t that great, props to you for finishing it! Oooh, you can never go wrong with masks. The patch looks super cute!! Thanks for sharing all of these products :).

    1. You’re welcome!
I definitely recommend trying out dry shampoos since you won’t have to wash your every day or every other day. I recommend Batiste since there’s so many different scents to choose from!

  2. That Ilse Jacobsen body shampoo sounds so crazy with all those different scents– I’m not surprised it wasn’t that nice! I’ve heard so many good things about Mario Badescu but I have yet to try any of their products. That scrub sounds lovely! I tried one bubbling sheet mask before & totally understand why you didn’t really like the effect lol. It is kind of weird! I can’t believe you went through so many hand creams, I wish I could go remember to go through mine just as quick! & those foot mask socks sound amazing, they are now on my must-try list!!

Loved reading about Empties, Karalee. 🙂 Thanks for sharing, these are some of my fave posts to read!!
