When you have a budget, you cannot always splurge on a new face mask, but have you ever considered making your own mask? With homemade face masks, you can combine 2-3 simple and affordable ingredients without having to sacrifice taking care of your skin. In this post, I will share 5 DIY face masks suitable for your skin type.
Dry Skin
The first DIY mask is suitable for those with dry skin, and the recipe was included in the insert of my January 2019 GoodieBox. The ingredients help moisturize your skin and make your face glow.
Ingredients
- 1/2 of a banana
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed orange juice
Directions
To make the mask, mash the banana in a bowl. Add the honey and orange juice and mix them together. Wear the mask for 15 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.
Oily Skin
The next face mask is a variation of one I found on Pinterest, and it is suitable for those with oily skin. The ingredients are anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory as well as exfoliating.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 teaspoon of milk
Directions
Mix the turmeric and honey in a bowl and add the milk until a paste-like consistency is reached. Wear the mask for 10-15 minutes and rinse with warm water. Turmeric can temporarily stain the skin, but rinsing your face with a gentle cleanser or taking a shower can help remove the yellowish tone.
Combination Skin
For combination skin, this mask contains ingredients that are hydrating and oil-controlling.
Ingredients
- 1/4 of an avocado
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
Directions
Mash the avocado then stir in the coconut oil. Wear the mask for 10-15 minutes then rinse off with cool water.
For another easy DIY mask for combination skin, I recommend Whimsical Mamma’s Homemade Rose Face Mask.
Sensitive Skin
The next DIY mask I found on the blog GirlChickBetty. The ingredients are gentle on sensitive skin, but they provide exfoliation and hydration.
Ingredients
- 1/8 cup of oats
- 2 tablespoons of fresh or dried basil
- 2 tablespoons of hot water
Directions
Mix the oats and basil together and slowly add the water until a paste-like consistency is reached. Wear the mask for 15-20 minutes then rinse off with warm water.
Aging Skin
The last DIY face mask for this post is for those with aging skin. The ingredients can tighten and cleanse the skin.
Ingredients
- 1 egg white
- 1 tablespoon of honey
Directions
Crack an egg and pour the egg white into a bowl. Add the honey to the egg white and mix well. Wear the mask until it is dry and rinse with lukewarm water.
Along with DIY face masks, you can also make a DIY Lavender Sugar Scrub or even DIY bath bombs to enjoy a nice relaxing bath while wearing a mask.

I knoe got sure, turmeric is, even though they stain your skin a bit. I like that honey is the key ingredient for a lot of these masks! It says a lot. Thanks for sharing this comprehensive list!

I really enjoy learning new recipes for beauty products. I am always trying to cut down on my plastic waste so home remedies are great
Yes making your own masks and other beauty products can help reduce plastic waste!
I’ve not tried DIY since I was a teenager – in those days it was all about yoghurt and honey I think. Although I did get some of the clay stuff and mix up my own once upon a time too.
The oat one looks good as a combination mask and scrub 🙂
I think yogurt & honey is a still popular DIY mask since honey does have a lot of benefits. That’s awesome you made your own clay mask!
I love homemade masks! They are natural and I love knowing what I’m putting on my skin. This is such a helpful post!
