How is it already the last day of April? Well this past month has definitely been busy and today I wanted to share my favorites as well as what I have been up to.
Entertainment
The Handmaid’s Tale: My boyfriend got a free trial of HBO Nordic to watch Game of Thrones, and I decided to take this opportunity to watch The Handmaid’s Tale. I reviewed The Handmaid’s Tale book last year, and since then I have been wanting to watch the series. So far I have finished the first season, and I am looking forward to starting the second season since it does not follow the book anymore. The series follows Offred who is a handmaid for a high-ranking couple in a totalitarian society where women are seen as a property and their only purpose is to produce offspring. The first season of the series follows the book pretty well, but there are things added especially with the other characters since the book only followed Offred’s point of view. Some scenes are definitely hard to watch, but like with the book, I think it is important to watch because it shows what could happen in a male-dominated religious-fueled society.

The Act: Along with The Handmaid’s Tale, I watched The Act. I have seen other bloggers recommend the series, but it was only on Hulu, which is not available in Denmark. However, the series was added to HBO Nordic, which is great! I watched all episodes expect the last one which will be released tomorrow. The Act is an anthology series that follows Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her overprotective and abusive mother Dee Dee. The series is based on the true crime of the murder of Dee Dee, and it is just disturbing how cruel a mother can be to her child.

Green Light by Kristian Kjærlund: Last month I mentioned that Kristian is a contestant on X Factor Danmark, and I wanted him to win since he has a unique voice, and he did! Here is another song by him that I love.

Beauty
Soap & Glory Love at First Blush: I have not used any new beauty products that I loved this month, but since it is now Spring I switched my normal blush from the Urban Decay Afterglow Blush to the Soap & Glory Love at First Blush. The blush contains 3 separate shades that creates a shimmery peachy rose shade, which I love. The blush also lasts all day, and the compact contains a full-size mirror for convenience.

Tarte Lights, Cameras, Lashes Mascara: This month I also switched over to using my all-time favorite mascara. The mascara adds length and volume to my lashes to create a dramatic look. I also love the applicator wand because it applies the mascara evenly and smoothly without clumping my lashes.
$23 at Tarte

Roundup
This month has been busy! On the 1st I started my thesis course, and I have been reading past research and the children’s books I selected, and I am now in the analysis stage! My boyfriend’s birthday was on the 5th, and I bought him two games for his Wii U. That Sunday we went to the zoo. We were hoping to see the new pandas, but they were not on exhibit until later that week. We still had fun, and my daughter got her face painted to be like a tiger. The following weekend me and my boyfriend went to Café Korn for brunch. We have been there before for lunch, but I have been wanting to go for brunch for a while now since they have a lot of vegetarian options, and I was not disappointed! The food was fresh and absolutely delicious! The next day we went to the mall with our daughter since they had different Easter activities including decorating your own Easter egg, and she had fun. My daughter was off from kindergarten from the 17th for the Easter holidays, and during the holidays I had lunch with my boyfriend’s dad at a restaurant in his city, lunch with my boyfriend’s mom at her garden home, and lunch with just the three of us in Copenhagen. It was nice spending time with my boyfriend’s family. This past weekend we went to Ikea to purchase some small things for our apartment and then we bought vegetables to plant in the greenhouse at my boyfriend’s mom’s garden home and we also bought a blueberry bush to go with the raspberry and currant bushes and strawberry plants that are already there. On Sunday I started planting some of the veggies, and I am planning on planting the rest tomorrow while everyone is off from work for International Workers’ Day/May Day.

I have to check out the Handmaid’s Tale. I can’t watch on HBO as I am not in the US but I will check it out!

You do! There isn’t HBO in your country? In Scandinavia they have HBO Nordic so they have most of the same shows as in the US, but there are some different shows as well.

Not in Japan sadly. A lot of Western shows are on Netflix. Prime, or on cable channels like Fox International.

Ahh I LOVED reading your thoughts on these!! I really enjoy shows that make you think & Handmaid’s Tale does just that. It is sooo incredibly thought provoking and a real conversation starter. Plus, the acting is just phenomenal. As is the acting in The Act. I cannnnot believe it’s based on a true story- really is Stranger than fiction. I’ve gotta check the rest of this out! Good luck on your Thesis, I’ll know you’ll do awesome! I’m sure your daughter loved getting her face painted. So cute! Glad you enjoyed the brunch too- sounds like my kinda place- love that they had so many vegetarian options!! Also, I so admire your green thumb- I can’t keep anything alive (well, besides humans considering I’m a nurse- I have to clarify! Lol!!!). Thanks for sharing, girl!

I’m glad you enjoyed both the Handmaid’s Tale & The Act! It is hard to believe it’s based on real events & after I finished the series I watched Mommy Dead and Dearest & they use the same dialogue such as in the interviews with the police in the series!
Thank you! I ended up switching to timeline 2 to have 3 extra months to work on my thesis instead of stressing every day to get it down by the 20th of this month.
My daughter did love getting her face painted & if you’re in Denmark you should go! They also have a grilled salmon dish in the evenings & salmon in the brunch.
Hahaha it’s good you can take care of humans. Have you considered getting a succulent or cactus? They’re hardy & I currently have 10 + a cactus in my apartment lol

Do you recommend watching Mommy Dead and Dearest after?! I didn’t know if it would be redundant or if you still find it interesting?!
Oh yayyy! That’s such a relief I’m sure!!!
Mmmmm that sounds sooo wonderful and delicious!
I have heard people say that!! Trader Joe’s sells succulents so I may need to look into picking up some after our move 🙂

Some parts are a bit redundant but they show pictures & video clips of the real Gypsy & Dee Dee which I found interesting. Also Gypsy’s dad plays a big part in the documentary & you get to see their real first meeting after she’s arrested
You should look into getting some succulents after you move!

Ooh good luck with your thesis! I kept meaning to watch The Handmaid’s Tale although it’s been years since I read the book. I hope May is great for you as well!

Thank you! You should watch it b/c like I said it’s like the book but you see the perspective of the other characters as well!

I watched season 1 of The Handmaid’s Tale but couldn’t get into season 2 sadly! My stand out from April was The Crown. I’m actually watching it again now with my boyfriend so I’d have watched both seasons twice in like, 2 and a half weeks haha!
