I got this idea from Jessica Jade to share the 19 books I want to read in 2019.
Along with the book title and description, I will share the format I plan to read it in as well. Let’s begin!
- Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs (Audiobook): I read Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children and Hollow City in no time, but with this book it has taken a while. Library of Souls picks up where Hollow City ends, and this time Jacob and Emma travel through time to rescue their friends from a heavily guarded fortress. I am around 80% done listening to this book, so hopefully I will finish it soon.
- The Crystal Rings by Christine E. Schulze (E-book): Christine kindly gave me a copy of her book to read, and after I finish Library of Souls I plan on reading this one. The Crystal Rings are three separate stories about four princess who are bound by the fate of two crystal rings.
- Lily in the Snow by Christine E. Schulze (E-book): This is another book I was kindly given by Christine. Lily in the Snow contains four separate tales of elemental beings that are combined in this whimsical anthology. I do not plan on reading it right after I finish The Crystal Rings since I like varying the genres I read, but I do plan on reading it this year.
- Into the Water by Paula Hawkins (Paperback): I bought this book as soon as it came out since I loved The Girl on the Train, but I have not gotten around to reading it. In Into the Water, Nel called her sister Jules who did not answer her plea for help and now Nel is dead. Jules then returns to the town she tried to escape to raise her sister’s teenage daughter, but Jules is afraid of the past and the place known as the Drowning Pool. I am looking forward to reading this book, and hopefully I will find time to read it this year.
- The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (Audiobook): I really want to watch the Netflix series, but first I want to read the book. I currently have the audiobook on hold on Libby, so I will be able to listen to it soon. The Haunting of Hill House tells the story of four people who arrive at the notorious Hill House. At first their stay is filled with unexplainable spooky encounters, but Hill House is gathering its powers and soon it will choose one of them to make its own.
- Happy by Fearne Cotton (Paperback): I was interested in this book since it is like a workbook about happiness. In this book you will discover ways of finding joy every day, and it helps you take little steps with practical ideas and writing exercise so you can find happiness.
- The Little Book of Lykke by Meik Wiking (Hardback): I bought this book at the same time as I bought Happy, and I thought it would fit the happiness theme. This book is about finding happiness and discusses topics including togetherness, money, health, freedom, trust, and kindness.
- The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking (Hardback): I recently bought this book since I had Wiking’s other book that I mentioned above. Instead of happiness, this book is all about hygge or coziness. The book includes topics from food and drink, clothing, the home, and hygge outside the home and throughout the year.
- P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han (Audiobook): I finished reading To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, and I loved it and I would like to continue the series. This book picks up where the first one ended, but now another boy from Lara Jean’s past enters her life, and she starts having feelings for him at the same time as she is in love with Peter.
- Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han (E-book): Since I want to read the second book in the series, I might as well read the third too! This book is about Lara Jean’s senior year including a class trip, prom, graduation, and preparation for college. Everything is going perfect for Lara Jean until she receives some unexpected news, which causes her to rethink all her plans.
- Us Against You by Fredrik Backman (Audiobook): I read Beartown, and this book is the second book in the trilogy. This book is about rebuilding the hockey team in Beartown after most of the former members left to join the team in the neighboring town Hed and includes the hockey game that will take place between Beartown and Hed. Even though I have no interest in hockey, I expect this book to focus more on the community instead of the game like with the first book.
- A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman (Paperback): I bought this book years ago since it is popular in Denmark, but I have not gotten around to reading it. This book is about a grumpy yet lovable old man whose world is turned upside down when a young family moves in next door.
- In a Dark Dark Wood by Ruth Ware (Paperback): I have read both The Death of Mrs. Westaway and The Woman in Cabin 10 and loved them. In a Dark Dark Wood is Ruth Ware’s first novel, and it is about Leonora who is invited out of the blue by Clara, who she has not seen in 10 years, for a weekend getaway in the English countryside. Leonora reluctantly accepts, but when the first night falls she realizes they are not alone in the woods.
- Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter (Paperback): Karin Slaughter is another popular author in Denmark, and I would like to read this book this year. The book follows Claire and Lydia after their sister disappeared 20 years ago. The two sisters have not spoken since then until Claire’s husband is murdered. The two sisters look to the past to uncover the truth about their sister’s disappearance and the murder of Claire’s husband.
- Tales of the Peculiar by Ransom Riggs (Hardback): After I finish Library of Souls I would like to read this book. This book is separate from the series, but it is a collection of short stories that tell the history of the peculiars.
- Hokkaido Highway Blues by Will Ferguson (Paperback): This book was recommended on Reddit, and I want to read it this year since I love everything Japan. This book is about Will Ferguson’s experience hitchhiking the length of Japan to follow the cherry blossom’s progress.
- What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera (Audiobook): I read Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda, The Upside of Unrequited, and Leah on the Offbeat. I loved the first two books, but not so much the third since I do not like Leah as a character. However, I want to read this book that Becky Albertalli wrote in collaboration with Adam Silvera. This book is about two boys, Arthur and Ben, who cannot decide if the universe is pushing them together or pulling them apart.
- Please Disappear by M. K. Shivakoti (E-book): I won a copy of this book, and it follows Arun and Gabriel who are tormented by their demons. One of them is desperate to find his beloved while the other wants his to disappear.
- And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie (Paperback): This is my all-time favorite book and I have already read it several times, but I think it would be nice to re-read again this year. This book is about ten guests who arrive at a private island for the weekend. The only thing the guests have in common is a dark past that they are unwilling to reveal and each one has been marked for murder. One by one they fall prey and before the weekend is out there will be none.
Have you read any of these books? What books would you like to read this year?

There are a few books I want to read that are on this list! My TBR list is wayyy too long, but I’m trying to get through it one book at a time. A book that’s at the top of my list right now is YOU, because of the netflix series, and the people who read the book told me how amazing the book is compared to the show. Great post Belle 🙂 xx

I really liked Happy by Fearne Cotton. It’s a really sweet book and definitely makes you think and reflect! I read The Haunting of Hill House late last year, after watching the show (twice haha!) and I really wasn’t a fan of the book. I don’t wanna say too much and give anything away though. So I just hope you enjoy it more than I did and I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Hopefully A Man Called Called Ove is a good book!
& the Haunting of Hill House is an old book from 1959 so the show is a updated version. It will still be interesting to read it!
